My first time seeing one of your videos. My father knows my love for dogs and he shared this one with me. We are Latvian and live in Canada. My parents immigrated here and I was born herre but do speak Latvian and always interested in Latvian culture and social media. I look forward to now viewing your other videos. I speak English and Spanish, I've been living in Japan for years now; and I like to study German and Swedish. So no need for me to learn Latvian. However, these videos have become a highlight in my day. I'm following your channel as if there was a chance for me to remember the simplest explanation. Unfortunately, there's no such a chance. Thank you for teaching the world about your culture.

Pēc suņa - šo esmu dzirdējusi tikai tad, ka kaut kas briesmīgi smako. Un "turēt suņa kārtā" - šī vietā esmu dzirdējusi "izturēties kā pret suni". Bet vispār interesants video! Nevaru sagaidīt pārējo sēriju par citiem mājdzīvniekiem!

Since we're on the subject of animals allow me to suggest a possible topic. When I was in Latvia many years ago I ask a young boy why Latvia had roosters on church steeples and not crosses. He gave me a very detailed story I think about a chicken and rooster couple on a horse drawn wagon having a terrible accident after which the chicken was lost and ever since the rooster has been on the steeple searching for her. Another child told me the rooster was there to w wake Latvia in the morning. I'm guessing there may be other traditional explanations for what to an outsider may seem a curiosity. Perhaps people would also enjoy hearing about the cat house in Riga.

Ah but can you teach old Latvian dogs new tricks? I think when we arrived ours was a vaukskis but his new saimnieks has changed that, so maybe old Latvian dogs can learn after all :) Actually he featured on our insta yesterday playing in the snow (a rare appearance) instagram.com/p/CKR0Vr9gxjm/ Great vid, thanks.

Please comment but if I recall correctly from my childhood one can say sunitis (diminutive form) which when used can mean either a small dog or a puppy. Is that correct ?

He was climbing on the fridge, but he’s more of a low rider :( likes under the couch, under the table, in the tv shelf..

@@irregularLatvian yep, he's hiding. that's normal when they get into a new environment. they either like to hide or be high above anyone else and observe. like me at parties 😅 he needs time. feed him, give him treats. he'll open up.

@@osamaalhalabe to be honest these are far better than newer movies just because of language usage. In these films are lesser slang from other languages. Exception might be "Cilvēka bērns" films, cause that's in Latgalian dialect. And they are for free to watch. Movies like you mentioned probably can be seen on subscription-based streaming service "Shortcut".
