I bought a Honda Rebel 500 in June of '23 so we both started at about the same time. I understand your "hate" list but think you should consider the fact that this is and always will be a basic, 500 cruiser. No fancy electronics saves a ton of money in initial cost and future maintenance. Now, after the 8 months or so that I've had this bike I might be wishing for higher power and some riding modes but for now will be sticking with my 500 as it does everything I "need" it to do and almost none of the things I "wish" it could do. Its fun and economical, light in weight. Ride safe and God bless.

It's not a bike for taller people . For me at 164 cm it's fine . It's also 46 HP not 26 HP. It's also not designed for fast roads . In UK it's ok as long as you keep off the motorway . why would you need riding modes on a bike like this as you just said it was not high powered ?

One of the reasons I don't ride in groups is I don't want to feel like I have to "keep up" with anyone. I've had motorcycles from 250cc all the way up to 1450 CC and they've all been fine on the highway. You may be surprised to know that Honda made a 500cc touring motorcycle at one time. (GL 500 Silver Wing interstate). I took one halfway across the country. You'd be surprised how your perspective on performance changes when the only one you're keeping up with is yourself.
@MAJafari

They sure all do fine and that's a good strategy to not ride in groups. however, a small group of friends with bigger bikes is fun to ride with.

"I feel it to be underpowered and i cant keep up with my brother and father on there 1100's" brother you cant blame a 500cc bike for not being able to keep up with 1100's. Thats like blameing your camry for not being able to keep up with your bros dodge charger, there totally different machines. Sounds like you've just out grown the bike and are comfortable with it and want a new challenge or more power. Nothing wrong with that but it's not the bikes fault, look at it as your skills have just increased

Does having the headlight cowl help with air buffeting? I have the standard version, and I'm thinking whether to get a windshield or the headlight cowl. And yeah, after putting a good amount of KMs on it, you'll definitely find yourself wanting for a more powerful bike. But I guess in my case, I'd keep it for 2 more years and hone few more skills like stoppies and getting rid of my chicken strips before getting a more powerful bike.
@MAJafari
@MAJafari 3 ай бұрын
The cowl doesn't really help with wind buffeting, it's still pretty brutal to ride in higher speeds, lol. And YES, faster and more powerful bike is definitely needed after a while.

I’ve had this bike a year now and I can tell you it’s not a great road tripper but is an excellent city bike… I don’t think there is a better city bike out there considering great fuel economy, and low end pick up and the fact of how nimble and light it is.. its great. However, when you are at highway speed and want to pass a car, that is where the drawback. The bike just feels like it doesn’t really want to go faster than 130 to 140 km/h. And even at 120 km/h it’s vibrating so much. However, BEST decision as my first bike hands down. I really wouldn’t have made any different decision. If I were to have to buy my first bike now knowing what I know.

I have a 2022 SE and I absolutely love it. It's my go to choice for most rides and I seriously doubt that I'll ever sell it. I went from a VTX 1300C to this, and although I enjoyed the VTX to the fullest, I enjoy the Rebel so much more. I would highly recommend that you don't sell your Rebel, but maybe consider adding something else to your stable if you want more power, features, etc. I currently have 5 bikes and my experience has consistently been that super basic, lightweight, small displacement bikes are purest way to enjoy motorcycling. Just my two cents.

Im currently looking at the Honda cmx500 rebel and think I would like this to be my first bike but because how my living circumstances is I ain’t getting a bike before at least 2 year so in that time they can change things on it and for me the only thing I would like changed that I think could be a big deal is it showing rpm so it’s easier to switch gear it’s just more comfortable to have speed, sound and rpm to diside gear in the start at least

Cmx500? Is there a different between the "cmx" and non cmx rebels? I know some come with ABS and others don't or maybe in different countries they go by different names I just don't remember hearing cmx 500 before. I'm looking to get my first bike as well and will probably go with the 500. I believe in 21 they updated them and they have a rpm Guage from 21 and up on all 500 models ro help with knowing when to shift gears.

Good luck with your bike journey man, you said in like 2 years. Hopefully I will get mine a little sooner then that, I recently lost my car(that was paid off) and everything I own I'm starting over and a bike is more doable because car insurance is so high and there way better on gas as well. I live in New Zealand, we can't ride a bike more than 650cc while on our learner license. I know the SV650 is the obvious answer, but I don't like the look of it. The only cool looking bikes available here are the Rebel 500 and the Harley 500, and I don't really like the Harley, the Honda looks (and performs) much better, so that's what I'm getting. It's a learner bike, when my learner period is over I'm planning on getting an Indian Scout Bobber.

I bought a CB 350 in 1976, then just my luck, they changed the learner capacity down to 250, so got a XL 250 which i believed was a good starter size, 650cc is a good 2nd bike size, by then ur used to the weight and power. After 6 bikes, 2 and 4 stroke 250-750 i got a GS 650G and didnt like the top heavy tank and weight of the bike because of the shaft drive, to learn on that would be a bad decision, but it looked and sounded good. I couldnt imagine a Harley being a 500 given theres no plastic on them, must be very underpowered. I think 650 as a starter in NZ is a little to big. The CRF 300 would be a great bike to learn on.
