You can split your right hand from your right foot and have them both operating independently more easily than you thought, thanks to some simple patterns that will also make 16th grooves easy.
The key here is patient, slow, precise practice. If you do that consistently - every day - you’ll make a whole bunch of progress. Get that right foot freed up from your hands, and deepen your coordination! Practice these exercises and find other creative variations, too. These are super versatile.

@@rosa8720 everything new takes time to learn - everyone struggle at some point. To get along, all you have to do is to follow 2 rules: playing regularly and mindfully. Stephen shows how to play mindfully and he keeps reminding about regularity - that's why I like this channel and God bless I found it as a newbie.

I was so confused because I started drumming about 6-7 months ago and realized that a lot of songs I wanted to play because I liked had a bass kick in between the hihat and I didn’t know how to do it and I just figured out a month ago that it’s called limb independence so I’ve been practicing and now I can play the groove to shout at the devil

Really appreciate this lesson. I'm studying Brazilian music, mainly Samba and Bossa Nova and working with the right hand being independent of the right foot is crucial. However, more than that, adding the snare mainly on the counter tempo + having independent right hand and foot is what I find most difficult. Would you post something about having both hands and both feet independent? Thanks for all your valuable content! 😊

I stopped playing the drums for 7 years came back to it and I now suck. I have been trying to regain my independence back following 16th with my foot and quarter with my right hand is easy but 16th and 8ths hard. I seem to find everything the opposite in terms of what should be easier/harder. Nothing to do but keep at it and hopefully muscle memory will come back. Great vid thanks for the exercises

Thank you. I like that you never make me feel dumb for struggling with this at even the easiest levels, since I am a beginner-beginner. I keep getting frustrated trying to play Fat Bottomed Girls (not THAT fill, just the basic beat) because Roger Taylor is “just” playing 8th notes on the ride, and a backbeat on the snare. Easy, right? But there is a syncopated kick drum beat and I can NOT keep my right hand going on the simple rhythm when I play it, it follows the stupid bass drum pattern. 😭 Hoping this helps! Thanks for all your hard work putting together these videos for noobs like me!

Another way would be to use the first three pages of "Stick Control" and substitute your bass drum foot for all the R's then go through it again substituting your bass drum foot for all the L's. Your right hand (if you're right handed) can play quarters on the ride through all the exercises and then 8th's, then 16th's, then (big challenge) 16th's hand to hand. As one gets more comfortable with these adding the Hi-Hat on 2 and 4 and eventually moving it (for example playing all the exercises while you play the hat's on the ands in each measure or the E's. and so on)

Just sharing you this, as Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." When you die in sin, you will end up in hell. But God loves you so much that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross to pay all the sins of the world for us. Believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior to be saved from sin and have eternal life (John 3:16). As you're saved from sin, repent your sins. Turn away from sin and do righteous things.
