Save time and space when you arrive on set with a self-contained ATEM Mini Pro / ISO rig. Don’t bother updating network settings as you move between the office, home, and location with a built-in router. A single V-mount battery or AC adapter powers the whole system and eliminates cable clutter. Mount it on a tripod, or place it on a desk. Save footprint and cable runs by stacking laptops, mixers, cameras, or autocue on to the rig itself.
This ATEM Mini Pro / ISO rig was designed almost entirely using off-the-shelf, universal video production parts. 15-mm rods, rail blocks, NATO clamps, and 1/4-20 cheeseboards makes it highly customizable with existing production production equipment. Plus, when you out-grow your ATEM Mini, there’s no wastage since all these parts can be re-purposed in other kits, such as camera rigging.

I’m a big advocate for loving using the gear that you need for a job…I love my Peak Design backpack and camera strap, MacBook Pro, Aputure 300DMKII, Canon EF 35mm 1.4, Pelican Air 1615 etc…I loved some of the ATEM mini pro’s functionality, but not the overall user experience…hence the rig to make it something I love using!

Very good thinking. I am designing a small flightcase but as I do everything else on the standard rail system like you, I am going to rethink one or two things. Almost all things you use I also have planned in my flightcase. I never use just one camera on my jobs and usually also do the PA audio for the event so being very small is not that important. I also like a bigger multiview monitor. I guess everyone should make it as it is needed and I think I stick to the flight case but I love your open on rig solution. Thank you for the video.

As the lighting is coming from top left to bottom right as your can see from the shadow, and it is probably a focus and not a flood, the space behind his face is less likely to be washed out... If you had a flood illuminating him it would have more chance of washing out the white. Still it takes skill to arrange

W.O.W. That's actually kind of a thing that I need. But maybe I'm about to put some adjustment because the most common situation that I work is to shoot at the school, so if I'm gonna finish the live-production in the classroom, the angle that in your plan might not serve me well. emmm...let me think about it. Anyway ,Thx for sharing such amazing idea there.
@davidjoshuaford
@davidjoshuaford 3 жыл бұрын
What did you end up deciding on for where to place the cameras?
@kurokid2441
@kurokid2441 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidjoshuaford well, since the rig is an all-in-one set with single cam, so that would not be practical when I shoot in the classroom. I usually need two or more cams to finish the work. I placed two in a line with one at the front and one at the tail on one side so they won't shoot each other. And sometimes one more in the middle to give different angle. I'm now having only one set of Hollyland 400s pro wireless transfer, so it's not gonna work for me to do some live-producing stuff. But it's what I'm considering about in the future ha.

Very cool setup 👍. The only wireless aspects here are the WiFi connection and wireless mic if i am right. Video is still via cable. This is intended to be a single camera all-in-one streaming solution ifi am right
@davidjoshuaford
@davidjoshuaford 3 жыл бұрын
It's intended as a multicam streaming solution. This particular set up utilizes a Teradek Bolt to receive wireless video from the main wide-shot camera position. There's also a Teradek Cube, used for sending wireless video of the MultiView back out wirelessly to tablets. The Canon 5DmkIV is wired since it's sitting atop the rig.
@NP-tf8tl
@NP-tf8tl 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidjoshuaford oh i see . I didn't catch that. So you are able to record as well as stream... I use Wirecast for streaming with a thunderbolt dock to that takes in two cameras via Hollyland wireless HDMI units and Magewell HDMI2USB capture card. So getting different angles means someone has to move the camera and another has to switch on the laptop. Your rig is food for thought.. i will view again. Thank you

This is excellent, and very modular. Love it! How do you connect cameras into the rig? Assuming they're done wirelessly, is that a problem with lag compared to wired sources?
@davidjoshuaford
@davidjoshuaford Жыл бұрын
Just plug cameras via HDMI straight into the ATEM. If you want to use wireless, check the units latency - the Teradeck pictured here only adds about 4ms from memory.

Rig looks just awesome! But how does it behave when heated up? Are there any heat dissipation issues?
@davidjoshuaford
@davidjoshuaford 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Adrian. The hottest part is the Teradek Cube, so that and the Bolt are mounted with gaps for airflow. The HDMI splitter and the 5-port network switch don't get hot. The Streaming Bridge gets warm, but not too much, and it's actually separated from the Network Switch by its rubber feet. And the ATEM is fine - airflow all round and not blocking the vents. The USBC dock gets hot when the full 100W USBC PD is flowing through it to the Macbook, but again, it's mounted separately with airflow around it. The whole rig is open-plan for airflow, and ease of access/ re-rigging.

Like many others, I keep coming back to this video for ideas. Well done! I do have a question about the D-Tap battery. At 10:24 you mention the battery is getting low and you are able to connect a power adapter to keep going. Is that power going to charge the battery which is powering everything on the rig? Or is there an alternate way to distribute all the power? TIA.
@davidjoshuaford
@davidjoshuaford 2 жыл бұрын
The battery is charged separately via usbc. The rig has a female 2.1x5.5mm DC barrel at the root, and connects either to the battery via the custom D-tap adapter as shown, or else to an AC adapter's male 2.1x5.5mm barrel.

This is awesome. How much run time do you get with the V-mount? That seems like a lot of stuff to power off a single battery. Also is there a way to "hot-swap" without losing signal? Can you run AC with the Vmount as a back-up or do you have to go down to swap?
@davidjoshuaford
@davidjoshuaford 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben, you can buy plates that are hot swappable. I get 60-90min depending on how much stuff is turned on. Battery is mostly for convenience on short shoots where we’re moving around or bringing in a remote client. For mission critical live-streaming I’d use AC power.

I haven't tried the YoloBox, but its form factor does look interesting! I've tried Sling Studio and Teradek Vidiu's via Air:Mix in the past but ultimately got rid of them. What I do like about the ATEM + Companion setup is just how widely supported it is - you can build it out as big (or in this case, as small) as you need.

Hi David.. does this setup allow you to carry a moving camera (handheld or stabilizer) and switch simultaneously to fixed shot angles seamlessly as you move showing the moving angle? Do you have a demo of the skiing this

Hi Kishore, this rig would ideally be on a tripod with a fixed-shot camera mounted to it, or maybe carried hand held without a camera mounted. Best to use a wireless video transmitter to bring a handheld or gimbal camera angle into the rig.

@@davidjoshuaford thanks David. I've been trying to figure out a man live stream setup with one mobile angle and one fixed using Wirecast.. i came across a couple of options where i can remote control Wirecast from my phone, but so far it hasn't been reliable on the field.. still trying to figure out.

Have you not considered that you could do almost everything with Yolobox?

I do like the versatility of the ATEM ecosystem, and most of all the ISO recording ability. I haven't played with the YoloBox, but would be curious to check it out!

VUER, by Teradek. Though I can’t say I recommend it because it always feels laggy and needs troubleshooting/hand-holding on set.

Not sure why you would need the camlink if you are using the ATEM Pro?

There are times I take the MV from the HDMI out and feed it into zoom, or the program out so that the USB is free for recording (also it’s just super handy having a tiny backup device, separate to the rig)
