Sony did get it right!!! People need to start thinking outside of the box and look at Sony's POV. Mirrorless already reached its maximum limit with stacked and rolling cmos sensors. Like i said before, what would be the point of releasing an a9-iii with a rolling shutter? Add a 35 mp stacked sensor with 60 fps? It would have brought nothing new to camera world. It was time for Global Shutter and Sony is paving the way again. The price tag is perfect for the camera since it is new technology and you are getting a lot for $6,000 usd. Leica cameras cost just as much and they have 75% less features than the a9iii. And im also thinking Sony doesn't want their A9-ii to lose a lot of value as well. I just want to play with the a9iii already as Global Shutter is a sensor I always wanted to test it out. I guess I'll have to wait in 2024 to do so.

Best A9iii review hands down! FX3 owner with a couple of 1TB CFA cards already so there is a saving! Don't forget, to get the most out of these specs you have to own the peripherals ( Lens, cards, strobes) so a $6000 camera could mean a $12000 investment if you don't have the gear to allow this bird to truly sing!

It is a camera that shows where the journey is going. A dream camera for professional sports photographers and wedding photographers, but I don't see it being used for wildlife photography. There's one thing you shouldn't underestimate - all the photos you take have to be analyzed, and you can very quickly end up with several thousand photos for a sports discipline. A camera for professionals....

My theory is the ISO 250 is already a second gain of the sensor - stacked sensors had comparably worse first gain than nonstacked, especially the inbetween iso values. This might be a solution and price for the GS.

I actually like this camera for high end wedding photography. For me, it would be great to be able to shoot at situations like low-light churches with bad sodium lighting without needing to fidget too much with the settings. Press that front button for kisses, ring exchange, Quinceanera special moments. Put it on silent during vows or soft music. This feels like it's worth it, perhaps to get a used body sometimes in the distant future.

Tbh, I'm not excited at this camera cause I'm not their target audience for this. What I would like to see is to have this global shutter in a ZV-E1 style body (same size), with all the dials (3 of them on the left size), more rugged form factor but still maintain the same size, put in the best LCD possible with A7RV style screen, squeeze in solid state cooling fan from Frore Systems so it doesn't overheat, dual card slots. And for Sony to release 1.8 series of lenses that is matched, minimal focus breathing, same size and weight something like what Panasonic is doing and add in computational photography for "auto" mode for days that I just want a nice picture with one click. Now that would be a dream camera to own. Though it's technologically possible, it's not viable, but let's see what the future brings.

Thanks for sharing this information. I frankly believe the price is just fantastic. New technology at mainstream prices. Sony could have charged $8000 and will be a fair price. I am not changing brands for it, but it's going to be the future unless it has a major flaw. Sony flies everybody all around the world, so people will give them a pass, but if the flaw is to evident even KZfaqrs for hire will have a problem defending it. Personally, I don't believe it has any major flaw. Eventually, the technology will trickle down to Nikon (the company that Watson avoided mentioning with the no-shutter comment).
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 6 ай бұрын
Agreed... Although, first of all I did mention Nikon by name in the video section for having features that Sony doesn't. I didn't mention anyone in the no shutter portion because this is Sony's 4th camera that didn't need a shutter, even if it included a mechanical one anyway so technically Sony is the leader in E shutter cameras. But yes, Nikon usually uses Sony sensors so I'm sure they will get some variation of this in 1-2 years. Also, Sony might occasionally fly us to the location (Nikon and Canon do this too) to test the camera but we are not paid so these trips still end up costing us time and $. Sony's really good about not pressuring content and they don't get to preview anything either so most of us have no issue calling out a potential problem and testing as much as possible. There are a few Sony exclusive KZfaqrs that don't fall in that category. But so far, I haven't found any weakness that would prevent me from recommending this, especially for people who can utilize the speed!

Does A7RV screen and viewfinder P3 color accuracy like the A9 too, I not sure if A9 EVF is P3 color accuracy tho? Can A7RV get update to have full resolution at 120 fps on the EVF?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 6 ай бұрын
I honestly have no idea on the accuracy. I just know the screen is not extremely bright and I highly doubt the contrast ratio is all that great. It's not any worse than other Sony screens, but if you look at the same image on a Canon screen and a Sony screen, you can tell the Sony screen doesn't do images any favors. But the viewfinder on the A9III is solid quality and I'm guessing the 120fps evf is hardware not software so I doubt the A7RV is firmware upgradable for 120fps

“Capture moments that happen once in a lifetime “ - you took the words right out of my mouth! This camera captures the decisive moment like no other. Yes it’s expensive and the dynamic range might not be better than the line scanning sensors that are in all other cameras, but it will capture the moment instantly and accurately. I think it’s not just great for sports and wildlife, but also for reportage. It’s also great for portraits where you wouldn’t miss the expression at the moment or just before. The amazing video without rolling adds to it’s strengths. Unfortunately still too expensive for me. Great work Sony. I wasn’t expecting a global shutter sensor this soon.

@learningcameras
@learningcameras 6 ай бұрын
CFexpress has a type A and a type B. Only Sony to my knowledge uses type A. Right now those cards are slower and significantly more expensive but that might be because Sony is pretty much the only producer. The advantage to type A is that they can also work with SD cards and that dual compatibility is great on most cameras. The problem is these crazy high speed cameras really need the highest speeds possible so having compatibility with SD isn't as much as an advantage. Type B would likely have been better for this particular camera but there are still trade offs

Here's why the A9III is NOT the ideal high speed / action camera and my take from a wildlife / birds in flight shooter stand point:, 24 mpxs are not enough when shooting bird's feather detail and animal eye detail, 45mpxs in Nikon Z9/Z8 better, a whole lot better, base ISO 250 again no bueno ( 64 much better on Z9/Z8), no rolling shutter and blackout?(Z9/Z8 no rolling shutter and no blackout also), No banding?(Z9/Z8 no banding also), Pre capture ? (Z9/Z8 also does it already!), Only real life advantage is high speed flash sync speed IF one actually needs it but in our genre we hardly ever use flash. Then you'd have to deal with poorer DR. , ergos, menus, colour science, build quality , support and much much higher price than the Z9&Z8.The Z9/Z8 also have no shutter box to worry about shutter count limit .Therefore Nikon's Z8/Z9 are still king in our genre. I strongly believe that the global shutter is the way forward yes, and all brands will most definitely embrace it in the near future, but it needs to be married to higher mpxs , and better ISO / DR . Did Nikon actually force Sony into going down the global shutter count route just to compete with what the Z9/Z8 offer in terms of rolling shutter/ banding/ no blackout issues??? Whatever the reason it probably will be the trigger for others to follow and we have to welcome the new era in tech because the global shutter is indeed a big leap into the future but right now i believe its still early days with lots of room for improvement!

Good point! So Nikon usually uses Sony sensors so my guess is Sony felt confident enough that the A1 was still ahead in terms of being able to hit 50mp at 30fps in RAW when the Z9 was announced. But I think Nikon surprised us with how much they added in terms of features and additional hardware, especially with the Z8! But I'm sure Sony will keep the A1 series high resolution to keep the high resolution people happy, but Nikon cleaned up with the Z8 because it's massively better than anything else at that price

This video is clickbait. Dan Watson waited a few weeks to issue this "hands-on review" merely rehashing everything that we've already heard _ad nauseum._

Or I got back from the event, found out a family member had passed away, and took an extra 2 weeks to edit everything together including a cool intro showcasing me actually filming with it as if I was using the camera for my own client projects. But assume away

I didn't _assume_ anything. Family issues and a "cool intro" do not refute that your video's paired timing and title mislead. Other reviewers, _e.g.,_ Miguel Quiles and Tony Northrup, were already testing loaned samples when you finally released the "Ultimate Sony A9III Hands On Review" or, actually, a delayed preview repeating what others said a month ago. If such clickbait is unintended, then your fitting reply is conceding that your title overhypes your content even if your video had been released timely.
