Hey Dan, Great video and exactly what I needed. I noticed you mentioned not suggesting Back Button Focus. I recently upgraded to the Z6II after using the D750 since its launch, and I've been a huge fan of BBF. I've found it particularly valuable for focusing and reframing, as well as for capturing fast-moving objects or animals. I'm curious to understand your reasoning for why BBF might no longer be necessary with the Z6II. Could you explain more about this?

funny watching this a year later after the real A9iii has been launched....."stick with the 25mp stacked sensor, get rid of the mechanical shutter & increase readout speeds & I really think Sony could hit 40fps....."

3 years ago I got my first full frame camera, a sony a7r2. 42mpx amazing for photography, But I started to notice that I was a hybrid shooter and decide to upgrade to a a73 last year. I don't regret my choice, sure the a74 looks amazing, but my budget only allowed me to buy the a73, and in 2024, if you do photography in general and social media content like reels for real estate, restaurants, hotels, lifestyle or even social events. Is a fantastic camera. If you need 4k60 or you are into bigger productions I'd say condier the a7s3 or fx line. But if you are planning to get the a73 nearly mid 2024, you won't regret your choice.

Love your reviews, man. Always informative and always energetic. Looking forward to Panasonic's new upcoming line-up and your reviews to go along with them. I think I am going to finally make the jump from Sony to Panasonic; they have finally caught up or surpassed their market rivals. Keep up the great work.

Hey interesting review! I have an FX3 and an S7 RM3. I cannot use the RM3 as second cam since its 8 bit. Also I need a Photocam. Its not as much of im Importance, but I rather: Sell my RM3 replace it by a RM5. Or buy annother FX3. I would only use the RM3 for interviews on a tripod. Thus 8K could be interesting, to make Reels out oft 16 by 9 content. But very important: Can I mix both codecs? Without any issues? I the RM5 a bad Video Camera? Maybe better get an 7IV instead. I have no clue how "bad" the RM5 is in terms of Video. Lets say on a highend level comparison. Appreciate your reply a lot :)

Interesting to see this is made in vietnam. I know most gm are made in thailand while the 50 1.4 are made in china and the big primes 300, 400 and 600 are made in Japan. Sony do have factory all over Asia huh..

I actually have the A7RV & the A9 III and they are both great cameras! The A9 III is a beast when it comes to speed and AF. And the A7R5 takes amazing photos. Stills and landscape. Interesting that you mentioned the Z8. I have a friend who got one and tried his out and YES I do like it. But I have been so ensconced in the Sony ecosystem that it would not be logical to switch. And I personally think Sony's line up of GM lenses is great! Plus I like the form factor of the Sony cameras better.

I'm hearing that two new Sony cameras are in the pipeline. So I wonder. As always. What to do. Shooting with the A73 now. A7R5 seems like the right play. Ah, but what's behind the new curtain? The quandary every single time

Is it normal to get a bit of delay or lag when viewing photos on Sony A7iii ? I’m concerned something might be wrong and don’t want to sell me camera if there is an issue. Some photos change instantly when using the wheel to scroll through photos but then sometimes it will just delay 5-10 seconds before changing , as if the memory is struggling or something

That was a great review! | would like to ask you which should i buy? Tamron 36-150 f/2 - 2,8 or should i pick sigma 24-70 f/2,8? Both are great lenses i know that but it's also both too expensive. With tamron i take advantage the low range of 35 and also the beast range of 150 but with sigma i have something more standard with 24 to 70 where i cover the low range of 24. I want it for travelling.I have the Sony A7 II. Thank you

Do these YT camera dudes all get paid by Sony to act stupid?? Get 24mp instead of 60+ mp? Are you eating lead paint? Why would anyone do that? 24mp sucks..you can see the obvious quality difference. I literally sent the camera back to buy the A7CR. 60+ Is minimum to capture great images. These guys are a joke lol

I wish! Definitely not...Paid for the camera out of my pocket and I did it outside of the BB sponsorship. If you want the full story, I actually purchased the camera before the BB sponsorship but hadn't opened the box because I was trying to sell my A7IV first (Selling it now if you're interested!). When BB inquired about a sponsorship in a video and I saw they had the camera on sale, I was like...I should just open the box and use the camera because I wanted to make a video on why I bought the camera anyway, and with it being on sale, it would tie in perfectly!

OK. So I did the update last night. And while the change of security permissions for the Mac was kind of a drag. It’s not so bad if you go to Apple and ask them about Apple things and then back to Sony for the update. Sony’s steps aren’t Exactly correct. The double update isn’t too bad either, just takes time. What has been achieved aside from a facelift isn’t completely clear to me however. No 23.98 option (I know 24p is 23.98 but tell that to a sound guy who’s freaking out about it) same high speed frame rate options. No 48 frames at 24 in SQ. No time code (a bit can dream). no independent S log settings outside of picture profile. Essentially nothing that nudges this closer to the cinema line cameras. With the advent of rhe Burano, I feel like this becomes the obvious gimbal/crash cam I’’m excited to dig a little deeper and figure out what this update actually does

You absolutely can shrink it down all you need is custom cables and you can take the middle piece out. It doesn’t actually make you legal for a public street, the issue is most places allow you to overhang up to 4 feet off the back of your car, and sometimes a couple feet off the front as well, but almost never does legislation allow you to have overhang off the side of your vehicle. It totally would make it more manageable for someone who wants a smaller setup though, probably real good to film jeeps that way since the arm is shorter it’s easier to keep it from hitting trees and rocks, and it would definitely be safer for your cameras on a narrow track or trail. If you don’t believe me go look at the reviews, there’s one by an Eastern European gentleman who successfully created custom cables so he could run the arm with the middle piece removed. I just can’t remember his name offhand.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 күн бұрын
Actually at the time I made this, you could not take the middle piece out and they did not make shorter wires for it. I asked them and it was not even in the plans and they recommended not doing that because for some reason it decreased the amount of weight it could carry (I think because this doesn't have adjustable counterweights). A few months ago they ended up adding that ability and I'm really glad they did because the long setup was pretty dangerous even on this closed track and they would only let a professional operator use the arm. But when I made this they said it was not possible and they did not recommend it
@conanruisi
@conanruisi 8 күн бұрын
@@learningcameras they still don’t make shorter wires for it. If you read my comment you’d see that I said you need to make custom cables. Making an arm shorter reduces its overall requirement for strength, and also reduces the amount of strain on the arm. At the time of filming this video you absolutely COULD shorten this, you just decided to trust the manufacturer instead of attempt it yourself. Not a surprising thing to do. If you still have it I highly suggest going to find that other review so you can see how he changed his cables.
@conanruisi
@conanruisi 8 күн бұрын
@@learningcameras the arm is light enough that it doesn’t need a counterweight. It doesn’t have a wind fin either, it just doesn’t need it.

I’ve heard that Canon video files/codecs are difficult edit. Have you found this to be the case? Are they significantly worse than other cameras you have used? Apparently cause even powerful computers to really slog and stutter.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 күн бұрын
That used to be the case...before the Mac M1 chips and the most recent intel ships, editing h.265 (the only codec option in most Canon cameras) was a nightmare. But if you have a Mac with an M1 chip or later or a PC with the latest intel 14th gen processors, you should be good. H.265 is very high quality and takes up less space, but it's taxing on the computer processor. Otherwise Sony let's you shoot in both h.264 and h.265

Hello sir, I am confused between two cameras , canon R8 and Sony a 7iii. I am from india and we are having a canon sale I which I can get R8 for Rs. 1 lakh , whereas 7iii is available for Rs.1.24 lakh. I am basically hobbiest and like to take a few portraits and some videos. My plan for lenses is 35 mm f1.8 and 85 mm f1.8. Which do you think would be best camera for me in every respect.l? Thank you, Ys

The problems seem to be: you don't know how to use a computer very well, and you have to reset your settings. This is super common on cameras -- you just set it back up again. As for "having to do it twice" -- it seems like you just have not been updating your camera before. My goodness. It took me 20 minutes to perform this update, including the time to set the settings back up again.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 күн бұрын
I am newer to Apple laptops so I have never had to reset the security profile so that was a first but I'll assume I'm not the only one. I had to do the firmware update twice (I never updated to the last version) and the update itself took over 15 minutes each for some reason which was long and obviously they recommend not using your computer while updating. Add to that the 3 USB cables I went through before finding one the computer would recognize and it was a process. I have about 30 cameras in my office and firmware update pretty often and this is by far the worst firmware update process ever and worthy of the title of this video which says it's a "mess". Typically you put a file on an SD card and toss it in your camera and hit go or the latest stuff you connect to your phone and hit update. Also, not a fan of the permissions the Sony app forces just to connect and while it's not mandatory, they were not clear why they were pushing it to set up your camera settings to know what you were missing it to not use it.

Any decent midrange hybrid cameras should have all these four features, i.e. IBIS, EVF, mic input and tilt or articulated screen. That leaves the Fuji XS20 and Sony a6700 to be considered, though costing more than $1,000. I left out Canon for the reason of limited lense choice as you said. My only other comment is the big mic boom clutters the scene a bit, but all in all a very good advice from you, much appreciated.😊

I honestly don't think the A9III is better for flash in the real world unless you NEED faster shutter speeds with flash so keep that in mind. Sure, you don't have a flash sync speed but the higher ISO means you need to push shutter much more to get the same exposure and eventually you will hit the limit of the strobe for maximum output because most strobes can't shoot full power faster than 1/1000sec. You get a little more room on the A9III but the minimum ISO shift to 250 cancels out some of the gains. But yeah, Sony has gone very specific with it's cameras lately so there isn't 1 camera that's great for a bunch of stuff
