I just finished a big unmix project, which took a very long time and a lot of work with all the available software. Just as I finished the new SL10 came out and I couldn't believe how much better it was than the other products. I could have done the whole project much more quickly and to a higher standard had it come out a month earlier. Oh well, next time.

A tip for ya if you have a graphics card: Go-to Edit> Preferences> System tab> Processing. Change from your CPU to the graphics card. Processing time is cut by 3/4. 😉

Hi Martin, thanks for another helpful video. : ) I haven't used RX10 for a while, but if I remember rightly you can apply it much quicker by using Direct Offline Processesing. I'm also sure I created a Macro at some point to do it all with one button. Nevertheless, SpectraLayers 10 is my new favourite. : ) Kind regards, Darren (Wales, UK)

SpectraLayers truly is incredible - especially once the unmixing features were added (and holy cow the dramatic improvement between 9 and 10 with that!) (granted I don't have $300 to spend on a license so I just try demo versions when they come out, 30 days at a time, but whatev heh)

Just comes down to your budget. Because chances are you’ll be mixing it in with other music, which will be prevalent in the track

I've compared iZotope RX10 vs. Spectralyers 10. Spectralayers wins in many areas. Great times... Spectralayers 10 is much more fun in restauration and Post Pro. I like this "Photoshop" editing. Highly recommend.

Spectra Layers wins, I do live concert mixes 2 hours concert I do the vocal gain automation in Cubase for the stage bleeads.

I stopped upgrading Izotope as it stopped improving. I might get Spectralayers 10 when they have a sale... the artefacts in RX10 worse than the others, and the vocal quality poor.

Yes, I heard some subharmonics in the vocal, very unpleasant.

SL has purest isolation. RX catches more reverb causing artifacts. Deep has inconsistent reverb separation between vocal parts, ez to cut out. Rip is actually not bad for free...

I agree. The free tool is surprisingly good. But it is noticeably drier. SL does an impressive job of including the reverb with the vocal. Of course, a person might actually want to extract the dry vocal.

@@ParmerleeTube I record live gigs, so I use SL alot. I always use the De-Reverb on the vox to eliminate the natural room sound of the venue. It works extremely well. Multiple Voices, not so much. More like, I've never gotten it to work at all.

When i right click anything in the project menu i don't get the menu with extensions etc, instead i get the toolbar that's on the top, just like a mini version of it on the mouse itself.. is there some setting or something i gotta turn off to be able to see those options that you see?

Ctrl+Right click (or go to Audio menu > Extensions)

Like the previous poster said. You have probably set the toolbar menu on the right click, but you can still get the context menu with shift - right click (I think it was).

But the question is, how does the music sound in spectralayers, after the voice has been removed, compared to iZotope?

Hmm, that could be another video but in general the quality of that is comparable to the vocal isolation.

@@LanewoodStudios why would you need vocals? Some of my clients request a karaoke track from me and RX was doing it for me, but I was not to crazy about the quality.

@@Gearstudio18 for remixing, for using the vocal on something else, for analyzing. But I understand the instrumental can be used for a karaoke track of course yes.

Dear Sir.. Its my mistake that I couldn’t be specified... I mean that when I am programming a chord from a vst tone... the midi lines start to form..but ti play the midi I have to start from the beginning so that the vst tone sounds perfect...but when I am in midst of the midi lines n hit button the midi assigned instrument does not play..I think u may understand the issue now.. As I am always clinging to ur reviews a learnt a lot cause ur explanation is awesome..Thnx.

Hi Arup, yeah sorry I didn't understand your question in the live stream. I think I now understand what you mean and I think the answer that you are looking for is the 'Chase" function in Cubase. Yeah it's a question that is discussed may times and the answer varies depending on who you ask ;). Checkout e.g. the lengthy discussions at gearspace.com/board/mastering-forum/1349023-44-1-vs-48-khz.html I use 48Khz myself because: 1. It provides a slight quality increase and not a lot of extra resources 2. It seems to be used by a lot of professionals I trust

soundquality wise it makes no difference. 48 kHz is standard format for film and post audio. 44.1 kHz is standard for music audio.

SpectraLayers can do that yes but it’s a separate program. There is a free version part of the Cubase 12 Pro bundle though called SoectraLayers One which can also separate the voice out of a stereo mix.

Your editing is not to good your skipping around and when you do your cuts your cutting off your words the old way of editing is much more better with still framing .

Yes editing is always a bit on the edge to keep the tempo high for retention on KZfaq and not cutting out too much. I may have gone overboard on this one 😉. Which vocal isolation did you like best though?
