There are SO many things that you can really dive down into with this stuff, so again I highly recommend you go sub to kzfaq.info and kzfaq.info as these are the types of things they cover all the time. Incredible channels with the best information out there. I tried to make this all make as much sense as possible, but it is a very complex topic. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do if you are on console. The best you can do is get a good monitor or TV with fast response times. rtings.com is an excellent source for figuring out which TVs would be best

There is a way to reduce inputlag in display processing and scanout, Touching the parameters of front porch, back porch and syncwidth in lines and pixels to the same resolution in those parameters at minimium, then raise the hz where you can. I'm not sure if touching OD or overdrive of pixel response to maximium will help, In theory it does, but, you know, the evidence it is over the reason.

Great explanation on this subject. I had did a lot of research and found the same findings but not the number data to back it up. When try to tell people to set a frame limiter on their games and I always get many people commenting to not do that. Also makes the game a lot smoother if setting a limiter to allow stable frame rates so don't get the micro-stutters from a wide frame rate change. I really have not played warzone in months and have a lot better pc now, but did have the r5 3600 and would get the 3 orange or red squares (esp in gunfights) and setting the frame limiter helped resolve that issue as the cpu was being maxed out trying to push the highest amount of fps.

On AMD cards you can also use Radeon Chill feature as fps limiter, simply by setting the min and max fps limit to the same value. Iirc Battle(non)sense tested this particular feature too and it offers same results as capping fps with RivaTuner. Another option is to cap it via in-game settings, which is also option with IW engine the Warzone is using, but it is somewhat inconsistent and the timing of the frames might vary (but it offers even lower input lag than Chill or RivaTuner). Do not use other methods of fps capping (for example AMD's Framerate Target Control) bc they work differently and cause very noticeable input lag (it's mostly for very old games where you'd be rendering hunderds of fps). General rule of thumb is to use Gsync/Freesync in drivers settings, Vsync ingame for the smoothest picture (you don't really have to use vsync if you don't want to, but Free/Gsync alone will not remove all screen tearing), and capping fps 2-4 frames below your monitor refresh rate. That way you can get lowest input lag and also most stable frame timing. Also Radeon Anti-Lag can cause issues in some games, and for me it was in Warzone where I noticed severe microstuttering. But that was back on Verdansk, perhaps I might try to turn that on again. Also remember you can't turn on Anti-Lag if you're using Chill.

Awesome video Tony! In their conclusion page, blurbusters' breakdown of gsync and vsync is if you want to use gsync, the lowest input lag is gysnc ON and vsync ON in global settings in Nvidia Control Panel, but vsync OFF in-game. The NVCP setting for vsync is different (doesn't hurt input lag more) than vsync in-game. Other than that, your recs were spot on.

The Nvidia frame limiter in the driver is actually on par with the RTSS frame limiter by now, RTSS can interfere with some monitoring or recording software, so if someone runs into problems like that, the Nvidia frame limiter is actually a valid alternative now. Battlenonsense made a video on that.

@truegamedata, great video, I love your analytical approach versus the industry standard anecdotal approach. Perhaps this is a loaded question and one that does not have a simple answer, but I was curious if you knew any info on how DLSS affects input. I notice that my gpu and cpi render latency go down 1-2 Ms with DLSS enabled. Subjectively, I feel like I have some input lag issues and also aim assist failure. Aim assist seems to be a pretty good indication of lag.

Fullscreen boarderless enables G-sync/freesync in your gpu settings in windows. Even if you have it turned off in game it is still on. Great video, just found it , and you touch on part of the reason many people suspect some of these bigger streamers are cheating on multiple games when it comes to mnK. A lot of them have settings or play in certain ways that don't make sense or severely diminish the speed advantage MnK is supposed to have over the controller. For example, everyone using 400 dpi which you clearly show puts them at a disadvantage. Another thing a lot of Warzone pros do is play at an arm aiming sensitivity when this again puts you at a disadvantage when you compare arm aimers like Tfue directly to the reaction speed and latency of other pro players who wrist aim like The Gaming Definition. The settings some of these really big streamers use "noob" settings and you always normal people trying to use these same settings and doing horrible. well , no duh a lot of these settings are bad.

Torn between this information now. Optimum tech, Battlenonsense, and hardware unboxed have all stated their findings and tests have showed leaving frames uncapped and letting the Gpu go and reach its potential was proven to have the best system latency results. While this video and new videos of some known pc tweakers in the gaming community have been advocating for capping fps in rivatuner for the best result. This rabbit hole sure is a deep one. Wish there was a definite answer throughout the whole community

Great Content! Have a very similar setup (5950/G7 but with a 3090). My question is how do you clone your monitor without locking it to 1080p with the current capture card tech? I have to run obs on my gaming rig and full screen project the image to my capture card to keep my 1440p 240hz performance? I was capping my frames at 236 using Ingame and noticed my GPU was above 85% (up to 97%). I tried the ingame cap to 180 and it dropped significantly (60%). I did have that bug at first using ingame (setting to 180 but was actually 200). Ended up changing it in the game lobby instead of during the game and now it stays at 180? I watched all of BN stuff in the past and any tuning/lag videos I could find. But I'm always messing with my stuff (tuning bdie, OC GPU and CPU) and neglected this part. Thanks for reminder and the detailed video! Our (twitch) community uses TruGameDate consistently for builds and advice!!!

The reason I (and some pro players) use low DPI is not just because "other people use it". I prefer a very low sensitivity, as do many pros (i believe huskers uses like a 60cm/360). In a lot of games, the sensitivity scale simply does not go low enough to use at higher dpi, and it's a pain in the ass changing DPI for different games and remembering which ones use which DPI so its easier to just use a blanket 800 or 400 across all games.
@texasrattler1325
@texasrattler1325 2 жыл бұрын
While all that may be true for some, in the end, the data speaks volumes. It supports the higher dpi does gives better performance. Yes it may take time to get use to or to find that right in game combo. 400/800 dpi was it at one point in time, but not now. If you want the best performance possible, this is what the data shows. Tony isnt the first to talk about the dpi either. Someone else did it months ago and also showed 1600 is the sweet spot. Adapt or die.
@Torsdagskvallsmys
@Torsdagskvallsmys 2 жыл бұрын
Thats not really true. I use 19 000 dpi and there is no problemo to get as low sense as I wish... you can set your sens to 0.001 if yoh like. I dont really care what sense people use and not use. Im just saying that low sense is not a problem. And whats so hard about changing dpi ? Cant really relate.

30ms SystemLatency is without OC & tweaking. You can get it around, even lower than 10ms. Depends on the PC components & game. For competitive games 300FPS IMO is the minimum to move & react freely (without feeling like have 50kg on your back) but this is usually possible in CPU bound scenarios. You can make the game CPU bound & lower the GPU usage by lowering the resolution but there is a trade off for longer distance. U can get used to it. Or use DLSS or NIS. I have a computer since was a kid & talk about this topic (Latency/Hit-Reg, Overclocking/Comp.Gaming) since BF3 days xD its good that more ppl got involved & the industry moved forward with the faster tech & Microsoft/Nvidia/AMD optimizing for Dx12. Basically what we did 10-15years ago with different tools & tweaks they now are giving it in one easy to use package. With the sharpening, lowering the resolution, Reflex has the same benefits as FPS cap without the FPS cap xD Doesnt lower GPU usage but eliminates the input lag in a similar way. I wouldn't use Free/GSynch for Competitive unless you cap FPS. it adds more than 1ms which is not much but it is at the same time. If u live close to the server & have good hit-reg it wont matter but for players who live far from it will help.

Wish you would include the new Gen Xbox controllers data aswell. I’m curious the difference of the input lag reducing technology they hyped up pre launch is in the controller or the system

excelllent video, thank you! Is anyone having issues with Rivatuner? I've limited my fps but in game I still show my fps over what I've set the limit to

Hi TrueGameData, great video! I have a question though. I have a BENQ 144 hz monitor and a PC (RTX3060TI with Intel 11th gen i5) that can go well over that. When I capped my Rivatuner to 144 hz, it already gave me way less input delay. However, I saw that my overall PC was doing less “work”, so my frames kept floating between 137 and 144. My question is if it also possible to cap the program to a higher number, like 150hz for instance, without “increasing” my input lag again, if that even happens?

A few nit picks about particular info in this vid, but the info in the summary section is 💯 and what everyone should be running.

in the case of 240 fps or even 280 fps monitors would you still recommend putting an fps limit ? If I understand correctly, in this case you would want your gpu to run at max and pump out as much frames since they will all be displayed on the monitor

Hi Tony, thanks so much for the content. Any idea whether ‘Reflex’ or ‘Relfex+Boost’ is better for input lag?

Great video but as Tony mentioned - this is really only the tip of the iceberg. We talk about G-Sync and FreeSync here but there are people (me included) who prefer MBR or Motion Blur Reduction/Strobing (i.e., Zowie DYAC, Nvidia ULMB etc) instead of adaptive sync and low-frame rate compensation technology such as G-Sync/FreeSync. If you have the rig to generate FPS way in excess of your selected refresh rate, then MBR with V-Sync OFF will give you the very best experience when it comes to the absolute lowest input latency + the best motion clarity. On top of this, how you use V-Sync/Frame Capping with MBR will also impact your input latency (the amount of techniques/methods around this such as standard V-Sync, Fast/Enhanced V-Sync, Scanline Sync using RTSS, external/in-game frame capping etc). The list of combinations is endless! We all have different systems and play games in different resolutions and graphical detail. As a general rule of thumb, if your FPS sits under your refresh rate and fluctuates quite a bit - then G-Sync/Freesync is the number one choice as it delivers frames in the fastest/smoothest possible manner. From this point, you can experiment with other settings in combination with G-Sync/FreeSync to see what feels best for you (i.e., V-Sync modes, frame capping, Nvidia low-latency/AMD Anti-Lag/ modes which affect frame queuing etc). Trust me it all becomes an obsession the more you delve into it! Stay safe.
