Yz-x are pretty close, and a much better candidate for an Enduro build. Needs a lower 1st and 2nd gear for extreme technical stuff I've heard. 3rd is way too short alongside the other gear spread.

Super cool. I had a friend that did basically the same to one. He only used certain WR gears. I think that was to avoid the machining. He also did the BB kit if I recall correctly. I asked him if he was going to buy a 250x when they first came out and he looked at me kinda funny and said "Why would I do that, I've already built one". He got tired of waiting for it!

love the build , but magnetic drag is not the same as a flywheel weight , infact its 100% an inverse effect. A flywheel weight keeps the engine running through stored energy in the form of momentum decreasing the chances of engine stall at low RPM , Magnets even if as heavy as the GYTR weight are actively trying to shut the engine off at all times increasing the stall effect. Now maybe the mass of the total system minus the drag from the magnets equals out to a net zero effect but the way you said it on the video did not sound that way. Regardless i'm really impressed with all the electronics you added onto the bike. As a YZ250 single track trail rider its pretty inspiring. Im doing everything i can to my 2007 YZ to justify not buying one of these state of the art fuel injected 300 KTM,Husqvarnas,GasGas bikes but its difficult. What you can get from the factory today and not have to do any work is pretty damn impressive , especially when the price isn't what's stopping you. im just a die hard YZ250 guy.

Nice set-up. Yamaha makes great bikes - capable, reliable, and tons of parts and know-how available out there. Unfortunately the lack of factory e-start on the two strokes is a major downfall for those of us that beat ourselves up every weekend riding tight technical mountain single track. Estart is less of an issue on the higher speed, more flowy stuff, and if that's the type of terrain I was riding most of the time, I'd probably go back to blue. I started out on a modified yz250, but eventually switched to ktm and beta, and could never seriously consider a bike without estart again.
@rogermty1971
@rogermty1971 4 жыл бұрын
Once you had an electric start, it’s hard to go back and kick start. I am a noobie rider in slow technical stuff and need to start my Husky about 15 times/ride. So the estart feels good.

The oem cylinder doesn't have the transfer port aera to support power at high rpm on a 72mm, 295cc bore. That's why they all feel flat up top. About 68 or 69mm bore is all they can do. So a 250/265 beats a 295.

Being that its not a perimeter style frame my yz250 is no where as rigid as my cr500af built on a cr250f frame. I find my aluminum frame yz perfect for single track & even high speed desert riding here in vegas because of its precise point & turn characteristics. Roger Decoster once said that the new aluminum frames would last a whole season of supercross vs. needing two steel frames per season due to the stretching characteristics of steal. Measure a brand new ktm from pegs to front axle then remeasure after a few seasons & see how much that frame has stretched.
