As others already commented it's absolutely a moron who designed the placement of the battery. The battery has it's lifetime. Maybe you should just throw out the computer after 3 or 4 years when the battery dies. Absolutely insane. I will not go for an Acer again after this.

+Claus Holde I agree. I have a Dell inspiron 1545 and you need to strip the whole laptop just to replace the cmos battery on the motherboard. It's mad. The manufacturer obviously wants you to fork out for a new laptop.

I actually started laughing half way through this as I simply could not believe how many more screws and connectors had to be removed before you were going to get to the CMOS battery. Man, you sure have got some practical skills up your sleeves. Did you ever work in the IT industry or did you just think you'd have a go one day? I sure would love to see what happens if some others try this .... LOL. I wouldn't try it in a million years but I absolutely have to take my hat off to you Chez. That was one heck of an achievement. Bravo my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Kev, I had been meaning to do this for years but kept putting it off as I knew it was difficult LOL. Never worked in the IT industry but I have built several computers and upgraded them since my first one in 1999. Computers look more difficult than they actually are as everything is modular, so can only go back in one place etc. Thanks for the comment ;-)

Great intructional video, but don't waste your time and risk your laptop because of the stupid cmos battery. Changed mine today in 2 minutes. Get a battery + cable and just unplug the old battery left of the HD slot, plug in the new one and place it on top of the HD, fits perfectly and works. The old battery remains unplugged inside.

+FlyingFish That comment saved my day! I now partly used that method on my Aspire 1410. I just had to remove two screws and a plastic door. There I saw the battery holder which was fastened to a circuit board by a sticker which easily stuck to my screwdriver. I cut up the plastic isolation from around the battery and bended the soldered "tongues" away from the battery. Then I lengthened the cables and connected a new battery to the cables. The batteries were not of the same size but of the same voltage. I hided the battery, away from hot components and put back the door and the two screws. No soldering, only yellow electrical tape (any color will do!). Thanx FlyingFish!

+Martin Josefsson Would you elaborate a bit more please? What 2 screws and door did you remove? I just need to figure out how to locate the battery while removing the least amount of parts. Thanks
@MartinJosefssonFI
@MartinJosefssonFI 8 жыл бұрын
+TheBoydTV I don't have the computer here anymore but if I remember correctly the door with the two screws was the one you open when you want to get to the RAM - the door nearest the center of the bottom side. There is no need to be afraid of opening those kinds of doors. That is the easiest part.

Shortcut: 1. Follow these instructions up to 1:26 2. At that point, look next to the hard drive on the left. The connector for the battery is visible on the bottom left end of the hard drive bay. 3. Unplug the connector. 4. Gently tug on the wires until the battery comes unglued. 5. Remove just enough screws from that corner to pry open the side and grab the battery with some needle-nose pliers. 6. Continue at 13:16.
@sluganaboga2566

I did that that in just 2 minutes! At 17:24 white connector is visible on the very top into the harddisk tray. How to do: Just screw on the back open and remove the cover, like shown in this brilliant video until 1:28. Unplug white connector you find into the harddisk tray (look 17:24 for it at the very top of harddisk trays, it is white, very good visible there) and plug new battery in. Leave old battery inside if its not leaking. Connect new battery, leave it in Harddisk tray or isolate it and route it towards center of Laptop and glue it down. Like that it will be a 2 minutes job. Ultimeate Handyman, brilliant video. If you really need to get out old leaking battery, this is the way to go in easy, well explained steps. Loved it!! Thank you!

Hi, I had the same issue and ran into your tutorial. Great stuff! Amazing that you have to dissasemble the whole laptop. However, I did not want to do that, and found a shortcut. Next to the harddrive is the connector for the CMOS battery. Simply cut the wire there but leave about half an inch of wire on the connector. Use a CR2032 with a long wire and solder the connector to that long wire. Isolate the cut wires to the CMOS battery with a drop of glue or silicone. isolate the soldered wires with tape. I placed the CR2032 in a piece of foam. The whole fits perfectly in the area next to the WIFI board. A 15 minute job.

The CMOS battery is under the motherboard for Z5700 for some crazy reason. You have to undo the heatsink fans and all the screws for the MB to get at it. Undo some screws and lift the MB just enough to replace the battery that's under a bit of black tape. It's not easy but very doable if you know what you're doing. I did it and now it's running fine again.

You do not need to dissemble the laptop to change the bios battery on this model laptop unless you have two hard drives installed. First take your HD out & place in HD slot two & then you can see in the left hand corner of HD bay one the connector cable that plugs the bios battery into the board , unplug & plug yours in the socket & use double sided sticky tape to fix the bios battery down. So easy !

Hi, thanks for the video... but there is other method and more easy. Only you need to remove the lid as you did. The battery is hidden, but accesible. You have to reach it with twizzers. And then, you replace the battery. Put the cover again... and that's it. My college has made this in only 5 minutes. We watched your video and think it will take minimun an hour.

Some Acer laptops have rechargeable CMOS batteries so I think you should mention a bit about that too. Instead of taking my Acer Travelmate 8200 apart to get at the RTC CMOS battery, I looked at some photos of the mainboard layout to make sure I could do what I had in mind, then I measured, marked, and cut out a hole in the bottom of the laptop with a box cutter right over where the battery and connector is located......LOL.. It's 8 1/2 years old so no worries about voiding my warranty. It took me about 30 minutes. It worked perfectly for getting at the battery. When I was done, I covered up the hole with duct tape. Who looks at the bottom anyway? They should have built a door on the bottom right over top of the CMOS Battery.....but I guess they expected the laptop to burn out before the battery.

Wow, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I got a little way into this. Luckily, I have the smaller Acer 6920G. After removing the small backplate (6 screws) the battery connector is visible, with the battery mostly hidden. I disconnected it and tugged carefully, and after a while the battery and its sticky pad came free. Like you, I didn't have a CR2032-WRS to hand, but I did have a BR2032 (a slightly longer life CR2032), and I got the connectors to stay in place with a paper clip wrapped tightly in non conducting tape! It worked, so thankfully I didn't have to do what you did, but it's a great video anyway.

Spent the entire evening following this video. Glad I didn't watch it first! Fortunately had a DR2032 in the house. Just pulled the old wires off the old battery and taped them to the new one. Only three screws left over when I put it all back together. Today my fingers are still sore but the date on my Acer is now correct - hooray! So many other problems with the computer so thought I had nothing to loose - black screen, certificate error on all websites and Microsoft can't recognise my kosher copy of Windows 7 Ultimate so get no updates. In my opinion there is a short and more simple solution. When the backcover is off you can see the little batteryconnector next to the harddrive bays. Just remove the connector and put the new batteryconnector on it. Leave the battery in the drivebay ( only possible when you use only one harddrive).

That is a crazy amount of effort to replace a cmos battery, I took another brand apart last week to clean the fan and change the thermal paste on the heat sinks, that merited the effort, but this is just a poor design for such a simple part which by it's very nature will require replacement at some time...

Great video, So much to dismantle for the CMOS battery to be renewed, If ever there was a design flaw this has to be the worst I have seen, As the CMOS battery is connected to the Mother Board by a 2 wired plug, surely the cmos battery could have been located behind an access door under the Laptop, Thus exchanging the cmos battery in 2 minutes, Bad design Acer,,,,.ps I swapped out the cmos battery on my Dell PC in less than 5 mins.

Just had a host of repairs done to one purchased from ebay only to find that the battery is dead! Had I known it was dead, I would have let the repairman sort out the battery too after witnessing the drama involved in replacing it!!! I think I will just live with setting the date after every boot. Two questions. I need to replace the DVD drive. Will I need to employ the routine you used up to the point where you slid out the drive? Second, (unrelated) do you know where I can obtain the screensaver and stock wallpaper for this machine? Installed Windows 10, but I'm that type of guy who likes to make laptops look as factory as possible - even with an upgraded OS.

I actually don't think you need to dismantle the whole laptop to replace the dvd drive. Look closely at 9:33 in the video, the screw is not even placed under the backplate which comes off first, it can be reached directly after turning the laptop over. Unscrew this screw and the drive should just slide out. At least it did on my HP Laptop I had to open, cause there was dust blocking the ventilation... If you didn't already disassembled the whole thing, it's worth a shot ;) but i know it's been already a week, so I might be too late

guys BE AWARE some laptopts/netbooks uses rechargeable batteries so before you attempt this better check your batteries and confirm what you need. DO NOT attempt to recharge a non-rechargeable lithium cell. CR2032 in place of ML2032 is a bad bad idea for example eeepc models uses them. if you are desperate for alternative diy solution u can use tiny li-ion/lipo batteries salvaged from old craps, small gear like bluetooth handsfree headset thingies or similar. just remember not to put it in hot spots inside the laptop/netbook and lower the voltage near 3v. everything will be good. 3v wont be super healthy for lipo cell life and cycles either but will be safe and will work fine anyway. thats what i did.

Hello. I changed the battery, it is perfect and the 3.3v reaches the resistor and the diode (BAT54C) without any problem, but however it does not save the configuration when you remove the power. I have changed the resistor, the diode and the capacitor associated with the battery connector, and nothing. Could KBC and/or ICH be the cause of the problem? Thank you.

It's normally a sign that the CMOS battery needs replacing when it loses the time, not sure about the other issues though although they could be related. Once you start to remove the back panels and hard drive/s from the laptop you will know if it's going to be a full strip down if you can't see the CMOS battery at that point. Best of luck with it ;-)

It is called planned obsolescence, or built-in obsolescence (see Wikipedia or alike), I am just struggling replacing the very likely broken CMOS battery on an ACER Extensa 2519. It just says, "no bootable device found", which is very likely to be the broken CMOS battery, usually a cheap CR-2032 battery. Unluckily there are zillions of different ACER models. Making it even harder to find out without ripping everything apart, where the hid this damn thing'? But then most people will get a new cheapo laptop, if it lasts 2-3 years. At least ACER seem the most reliable of all cheapo notebooks available and one can get them without having to pay the M$ tax, as he would want to install Linux anyway. ;-)

Ok, couple of questions: 1) my sister bought a vaio SVF152A29W model. vaio care program asks to update the BIOS. she updates it, then it prompts to restart. After restarting, she just hears couple of noises from fan, few beeps but nothing on screen and then all silent, then again the sounds and noises mentioned will be looped eternally until the battery is removed and popped back in. 2) can she fix the BIOS by removing the cmos battery? 3) If yes, would you be having any idea how easy it is to reach the cmos battery on the mentioned vaio notebook? 4) she has bought it in UAE 7 months ago and it is still under warranty. 5) but she lives in Sweden right now and the Swedish Sony service center is not accepting the warranty. it will cost her something around 150 pounds to fix it. 6) so do you think removing and putting back the cmos battery will reset and fix the BIOS? Thanks in advance
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 10 жыл бұрын
It might work, but it might not! I guess it's worth a try though. You need to get hold of the engineering manual for the laptop, that should show where the CMOS battery is located. On some models there is a CMOS jumper that can be moved to reset the CMOS, so it's worth looking in the manual for that too.
