It's a bit frustrating to see experienced shooters not realize their scope base is loose when their groups start doing weird things (it's such a common issue). If your factory rifle comes with a scope base, you're going to need to remove it, degrease the screws and screw holes, and then loctite things back in place. If not, count on it ruining a range trip.

Sure helps to add a rubbish scope with a canted reticle into the mix to fix the accuracy problems. These guys were A+ credible in my book up until this Monstrum Tactical promo. This brand is one of the worst if bit THE WORST scopes that money can possibly buy from a company with a very bad history that really dick's you around come warranty time.

Some people don't get loose rings so long as they torque the screws to the proper torque. I used to Lock Tite but since seeing a good long-range shooter say he never had issues so long as they were torqued to spec, I have got a torque wrench and followed his advice and like he said I have had zero issues. It makes life easier when it comes time that you may want to use a different set up with new rings as well as optics. If it makes someone feel better by all means use Lock Tite. I used to but don't anymore, but I do make sure everything is torqued to spec.

This video right here is what scope reviews should modeled after. There needs to be long term scope evaluations with tracking info and error info recorded and presented. Sure there can be initial impressions but 1200 rounds and thorough testing will give people much better information then just opening the box, spouting the bs info sheet from the company, and shooting three groups at 50 yards then saying, well some people will like this scope and some people wont.
@commonsense5709

I wouldn't even bother wasting 100 rounds of ammo on this scope. The damn reticle is canted and I'm very surprised there's no mention of even considering sending it back for a replacement. It's also very rare to see a long term scope review from reviewers who don't actually use the scopes on their own guns who only make KZfaq videos. Monstrum Tactical scopes aren't even worth mounting on your own gun.

Really thorough review. If you go up a little bit into the 500-1000 range you can get dead perfect tracking as shown by Athelon and Primary Arms and a handful of others. I just ordered a Arken Optics EP4 6-24X50 FFP MIL with Zero Stop - 34mm Tube for 599.99 They Gaurantee Precision Tracking as well as give a lifetime No BS warranty. They have excellent reviews on the googletube. There are a few others but not many, It takes some hardcore searching but there are a few before jumping into the Nightforce, Stiener, US.Optics etc. You know the 2,3,4000.00 scopes that are beyond reach for many of us.

I agree. I was initially looking at something like 6-18x50 or 6-24x50 but realizing that 6x isn't great at close range I started looking at 3-18 or 4-18/24. The prices rapidly jump past 500 and even 750 (2022), and so a reliable scope that can be worked around the error margin is one thing if its sub-300$

Arken 4-16x50 SH4 is under $300 and has a 100% tracking guarantee and they even send you a prepaid return shipping label if you ever need to use their lifetime warranty so you won't be out of pocket for return shipping. Perfect tracking and easy to set zero stop are Arken's strong point. The EP5 has nicer Japanese ED glass and the hew lightweight EPL4 models are worth checking out too. The SH4 6-24x50 is the only model I wouldn't recommend due to mediocre glass in thus model and recommend the EP models instead.

Im not knocking monstrum, I have no experience with them but i personally own 2 athlon optics the talos and the ares. Ones 270 bucks the other is 900. Both are ffp, super clear with no chromatic shift and the tracking is absolutley spot on and repeatable. The ares is a 4.5-27x50 over 300 yards i max it at 12x for clarity. For bullseye grouping at short range i crank it up. The talos is 4-14x44 and plenty for 1k. Spend you money on clarity not magnification

Use all the blade# you need to just be able to slide the blades in between the rail and scope. Bingo done.. Leave it until you snug a coupe of screws on the scope rings. Putting a level on the Ele cap/turret is not always flat 100%. To set reticle I use The Plumb bob, and you can do a tracking test,with that Bob string.

How does this compare to the Athlon Argos BTR? I picked one up on sale for 279.99 and aside from the eye relief and mushy turrents I LOVE it. It Competes with my Vortex PST gen 1 and beats my diamondback tactical hands down. I have a cheap savage axis that needs glass!

At least the Athlon is going to be reliable compared to the Monstrum Tactical and Athlon won't give you any BS if it ever comes to having to use their warranty. Monstrum is already known to not honor their own warranty.

Excellent video, excellent rapport with your co-host. Clicked on the video because of Amazon pushing monstrom so hard, I had to know what you thought of the brand, and if you were thorough or a shill. I had figured Monstrom was purely an airsoft/ bottom end product. After watching the video, I decided I need to be subscribed and notified. Oh, please continue to update this post.

Depending on your application most of the “deficits” of this rifle are DIY cost-free fixes. Loctiting/torquing down the scope base, sand out the barrel channel to keep the stock from touching the barrel...and play with the trigger/trigger spring. This rifle also benefits from the use of a cheek riser with MOST scope setups. After doing those things I was consistently shooting 1/2 MOA out to 700 yards with factory Hornady ammo. And got down to consistent 0.3-0.35 MOA with my handloads. Lost my barrel at 1,800 rounds so I’m hoping my new Replacement barrel from Patriot Valley Arms will shoot as good(but I’m expecting it will be better)

I have owned one of these gen 2 scopes for nearly 3 years now. With better than 1000rds down range behind a .223 rem 700 adl. I can say that there are things I like and things I hate. Likes 1. It looks great 2. Feels solid 3. Turrets track well 4. The ffp reticle is fine with clear markings and consistent increments. 5. Zoom is smooth and field of view is good. Bad. 1. It is HEAVY I didn't realize just how much it would bother me but it is nearly twice the weight of my vortex of similar spec 2. The illuminator died on the 3 push and monstrum told me tuff stuff they weren't going to do anything. 3. Low light is about the same as a buckmaster or prostaff scope. I can shoot a solid 45 mins longer with the vortex 4. Although the turrets track and return well they aren't exact. Just like these guys found 1 click is more like 1.2clicks. I have gotten used to it and consistently shoot out to 500 yards. But the adjustment is significantly different on this scope vs others. 5. The finish has begun to peel. Not totally it's fault but I hate to see that fde finish disappear. 6. The gradient or haze at higher magnification is as bad or worse than the 59.00 pinty scope on my air rifle. Anything above 18 and it really starts to lack if light isn't right. 7. Probably my biggest complain other than weight is the eye box/relief. You have to be dead on exact with this thing. If you don't have good technique you will after using it. Of the dozen scopes I own from 40.00-500.00 this one by far hands down has the smallest margin of error so bad that I have yet to let someone shoot it that didn't have to do the fish around in circles trying to see through it. 1/4 "to the side and the whole picture is gone.

Just to confirm please as I think it was slight inaccuracy in communication when shooting a test for scope alignment and tracking. After shooting center you go up 5 then go left 5 you would need to go right 10 then down 10 then left 10 then up 5 then right five to be back on center? Just checking as wrong information can be bad!

I know this is an old video. With that said, I believe some of your better ballistic applications allow you to input your scopes tracking error. Since the tracking error of this scope is consistent and repeatable, the right ballistic application makes this a non issue. It just so happens that I'm looking for scope that doesn't cost a kings ransom and has features I can actually use. This one may fit the bill.

I bought a G2 a few years ago. I sighted in the winter time late in the day facing northwest. Naturally, it was hard to see. Fast forward to warmer weather and longer days. I put a shade on the scope. The sun wasn’t low, and it was still hard to see. What the…? The chromatic aberration was terrible. The scope had a large yellow fringe. I replaced it with a Primary Arms 4-14x44 ffp that was much clearer. I will say the company was good to work with though. I lost one of the turret caps somehow. I contacted the company to purchase one. They sent a replacement which arrived in a few days. No charge.
