I love how night and day this and Ultraman Leo are. When this came out, veteran fans of the series complained to Tsuburaya that the show was catering too much to kids and that there wasn't a good enough mix between campy fun and serious drama like there was with the old shows. So what Tsuburaya and co. essentially did was do a complete fucking 180 and made the next show (which they shoved in a preview for at the end of Taro's rushed last episode) as violent and depressing as they could possibly get away with at the time. "Hey kids! Tune into the next episode of Ultraman Leo, where a child watches his father get cut in fucking half right in front of him!"

Eiji Tsuburaya died on New Year's Day 1970. If you don't like either Taro or Leo, blame it on his two sons, and the writers. It's obvious both series were catering to older children & adults--in other words, they were more or less kid--friendly. 🇯🇵👹👺😁😆😸👪
