The Ulugh Beg Observatory is an observatory in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Built in the 1420s by the Timurid astronomer, governor and later Sultan, Mirza Ulugh Beg. During its time, it is considered to have been one of the finest observatories in the world along with Ming Empire's Beijing Observatory. Astronomers who worked at the observatory include Persian Jamshīd al-Kāshī, Anatolian Qāḍī Zāda al-Rūmī along with Ali Qushji & Ulugh Beg himself from Samarkand.
Ulugh Beg and his team compiled their observation and calculation formula in book Zij-i Sultani (the Sultan's table) containing astronomical tables of 992 stars as well as parameters to calculate of the positions of the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets.
