It's been a while since I've used airsoft guns. Do you need a license for airsoft guns in New Zealand?

No, you don't. However unfortunately post 2018 it's slightly more complicated. What you will need is a club membership with any registered provider in NZ, this typically incurs a fee anywhere from 50-150$ and will generally involve you playing at least a few games before a club will agree to sign you up. You don't need to keep airsoft replicas in a safe (unless you own real firearms) Pretty unnecessary hurdles just to own toys, but if you want to buy brand new ones that's the legal requirement. (You can buy 2nd hand ones without a membership, as long as you are 18+ the rules make absolutely no sense)
