This is a Review of the Yihua 948 De-Soldering Station. This is my first time ever using a De-Soldering Station, so I may be a little slow but it worked out beautifully. I can highly recommend getting this De-Soldering station and ask that anyone getting one that may have an issue to please not give up on the product, as I have done allot of research on Yihua products, and they have a substantial community of people leaving positive reviews and comments about their products. We could buy a defective Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ryobi, Makita, Bosch ect., but it does not mean that the company is garbage?…
I hope you get something out of this review and look forward to bringing more to you in the future.

I have a Yihua soldering and hot air station for four years now and its been great. I think its an 856bd or something. Good stuff. I think Santa may be getting me one of these desolderers this year. Thanks for the review! Btw, my soldering station has a sleep mode as well, it lets the iron go down to 200 degrees, not completely off. Then when i pick up the iron it springs back up to operating temp in maybe 15 seconds. Its a nice feature, really.

@@Outside-In. Well, I own a second hand Hakko 474. The Yihua and Aoyue stations are very much a copy of the Hakko 474. I have learnt to give the gun some extra time to heat up, so the the solder does not get stuck in the last part of the tube. this prevents clogging of the tube. And to give solder joints some time to melt all the way through the joint before pulling vacuum.

After using my silicone mat for laying a piece of metal on to solder to - I have to agree that a silicone tip would be very very beneficial for sure. Mine melted after the first few attempts, but like you said - I am sure it was because it was made out of plastic and not high resistant heat silicone. After using this desolder station, I don't know if I would ever want to go back to a hand pump, but then again, it would be a great thing to have in my repair kit though... Hey Gary, I just last week finally had the opportunity to try this on a few smd components, and the results did vary however. It seemed to work pretty well for those small smd capactors and the like, but when it came to try and de-solder a micro processor with many legs or Bios chips and the like, I ended up ruining the board, so I don't think this would be good to de-solder smd's with legs, but it does do a very good job for those flat capacitors etc (smd's with no legs). Just thought I would update you on this information.

Thank you Marcus for the comment and questions. I use AIM solder 63/37 .032 and .062, it has a melting temp of 183 degrees Celsius - 361 Fahrenheit. I have used a number of different solder's and couldn't find anything that worked very well, but the AIM has fit the bill every time I use it, so why it is my go-to solder for projects... I am not sure that I can "Rate" this as I have nothing to compare it too (and that would be unfair). I just like it, it does the job I need it to do at the time I need to do it. Hope this helps and that you are happy with yours if you decide to get one. For me, the price was what sold me as others can be much more expensive and I can't afford expensive lol.

Was reading some Amazon reviews which are mostly positive like yours, but some complain the suction is not strong enough, solder gets stuck too easily, unit takes too long to heat up, and build and reliability issues. For the price, I’ll probably gamble it but it’s weird how Amazon has such opposite reviews.
@Outside-In.
@Outside-In. Жыл бұрын
You have to be careful about Amazon reviews Andy, as I have found that allot of items sold on Amazon consist of reviews that are not of the product being sold. Yes this does take a little while to heat up but for the price and functionality it is worth the wait. As far a suction, I have watched a number of videos on this station, and what I see mostly is that people don't use the gun correctly. As long as you have a good solid connection with the nozzle and solder joint, the suction is quite adequate. When using any de-soldering gun, make sure that first of all you are using the correct tip (hole size) and give it a second to melt the solder on the joint, and then swirl the tip around the joint as you pump and it works just fine. It takes a bit to get use to de--soldering this way but when you get the hang of it, you will be glad that you chose this way of de-soldering.

It's sad because the station looks really solid. The worst thing is the manual which looks more like a manual from the cheap toy... Basically the absolute minimum of the information.
@Outside-In.
@Outside-In. Жыл бұрын
The "pht" is a protection code to protect from misuse of the gun. It needs to properly heat up before you can activate the pump... I found this information from Yihua - hope it helps... "Get to Know the 948: The station will preheat for about 5 minutes when turned ON (please be patient while the gun is preheating), and beep 3 times when the station is ready-to-go. Pulling the desoldering trigger during or before the preheating process is complete - will trigger the protection code ‘Pht’. The vacuum pump is deactivated by default during preheating so your 948 desoldering gun won’t clog up due to misuse under insufficient heating."

That board was also about 15 to 20 years old. But still I am guessing as because I only needed to de-solder the one side to remove components. @@MeodiyVN The only information I can find is from Yihua, and Yihua says that there are no other guns that will work with the Yihua 948 other than the following link: Yihua 948G replacement handle, so I am assuming you cannot upgrade the handle: www.ebay.com/itm/325566477001?epid=24044307086&hash=item4bcd4632c9:g:QKwAAOSwUJBkCLKK&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4AhYPcXAAt8j6N7mITHXOs%2FQaWh%2FY5RfoZ62J5X15lBsS9MDSPb2QkqV%2FpisdmPkqHWWBz%2Bc9vgdOt05ZxZIbItqJpMPy4Ha1eBTjARLXnE42HIMTZhHXhg1t0xi4zX9Ibe3c83UjpTbbRfWlFIVcz1edqn64msriWrwVr%2BdplIAVh%2BP37zcatX2nL6m5olBAWTibpp96uBBedwouDebOZt%2Bl30pGVd2KeoE7yOyT0wuj79OFW8TavbXLs%2Fgka8FwV0lrmAprVaztFwjiLdd2cM2S6jAa4SxrvtBpqnLYMyi%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-aYmaXaYQ

I found a link on Amazon for the Yihua store, and am including a link to their "part" page, but after looking for information on upgrading a Yihua station, I didn't find anything except for a KZfaq video where someone makes a diy vacuum chamber to get better performance. As far as upgrading the Yihua Station, I don't think you can just buy bigger and better pumps/guns that can be used for it. I think this station works great for what it is and for the hobbyist, pretty much all one would need. If you de-solder on a professional level, I am not sure how good this would be for that - at that level you would probably be better off with a weller or more professional station. This is the link to the Yihua Amazon store for parts: www.amazon.com/stores/page/15207AA9-4102-4A59-995A-3497FAF3C07B?ingress=0&visitId=480627aa-37a6-4f16-8186-36cdccd5d51c

Thanks Kilroy, yes it is green, maybe more of a teal green. I calibrate my monitor, so yours may not be calibrated and not showing colors correctly but it is green for sure. My eyes have been checked many times as a truck driver and have never failed a color blind test... Thanks for the comment, every comment is welcome always. I just watched a little of this on my cell phone and it does look more blue than green hmmm, but it really is green in person I promise.

One year ago I bought one Yihua 948 for testing only. Gun is not the best quality but price is very cheap, Us$45 dollars on average, I bought 3 extra guns.. For me works very well, I don't power on the desoldering if not in use. I have two Hakko, one 808 and one FR-301, all the trought hole desoldering tools clogged very ofthen, they need to much cleaning for propper operation. If you have money go for the hakko but if you are in budget this Yihua is the right tool for you.

Thanks for the info Ricardo much appreciated. I can't afford Hakko, so why I had to find something in my range, and when I found this, I just had to do a review to let others (who don't have allot of money) know that other options are available, and this is one of them... I do thank you for the info as it will come in handy for those that can afford a Hakko

@@treadmillrepair754 Yes Ricardo, electronics is a hobby for me. When I was a child - I took things apart just to see how they worked - but never had a desire to fix anything - I just loved taking things apart. Now as an adult, I take things apart to fix them. I too use any extra money that I get to purchase more tools to better myself and to satisfy my hunger to know more about electronics.
