Today we're bringing you the Wyze Cam v3 Firmware Fix.
Did you try to install the Wyze LAMP SOCKET using the app, and the longer power cord, (from the Wyze Cam v3) instead of the provided cable, with the triangle end? If you were using the Wyze app to install, it didn't warn you of the difference, but the Quick Start Guide, was VERY clear to ONLY use the "special cable" that came with the Lamp Socket. If you used the app, despite updating the firmware, you won't see the light, or any of its settings. Worse yet, the Wyze Cam v3 may not even work at all. If this sounds familiar to you, we have the fix. Rennie will walk you through it step-by-step, and you'll find the links for the files listed below.

Flashing Firmware for Wyze Cam v3
--------------------
1.) Wyze Cam v3 files can be found on the Release Notes page.

2.) Download a specific version of firmware
For Windows 10: Right-click on the folder and select extract all.
For Mac: Just drag and drop the folder, put it on the root directory of your microSD card.
For both Mac and Windows, rename the file to "demo_wcv3.bin".
This is different from the Wyze Cam v2 & Wyze Cam Pan which rename the file to "demo.bin" only.
3.) Power off your camera and insert your microSD card.
4.) Hold the setup button, plug in your USB cable, keep holding the setup button for 3-6 seconds until the light is solid purple, then release the button.
Note: For "Solid Purple" both the blue and red LEDs will be on at once, making it appear to be a solid purple.
5.) Wait for 3-4 minutes. The camera will reboot and change the light status during this time.
6.) Once this is done, your camera should be functioning with the original setup. No need to re-setup your camera!

Worked for me. Many thanks! I'll never buy another Wyze though. Terrible software, slowwwww to connect to the camera stream, and their firmwares are just ads for their add-on paid service. The internet is furious about many bricking cameras. Very few of them try to flash the firmware again.

The V3 Pan, OG, and OG telephoto have a much faster connection time to the camera stream. We have been using Wyze cams since they first started and they're getting better and better. From our testing, the V3 has the worst WiFi connection of any of their cameras. Thanks for the comment and Thanks for supporting the channel.

I had one that wouldn’t connect following an update. I JUST finally got it fixed but also experienced the same issues with manually flashing as others including the inability to achieve the solid purple light. I found a recommendation in the posted procedure to use a 32GB micro SD and formatting to FAT32 before putting the latest flash file on it. THIS did the trick and I was finally able to obtain the elusive purple light and my camera that has been shelved for so long is back up and running. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the update, I have had better success with 8GB and 16GB, but I will start ensuring that the cards are formatted FAT32 before putting the firmware on it, I have 1 V3 that is still shelved, I will try this on that one and report back with the results, Thanks again for sharing your experience and thanks for supporting the channel.

Holding the button while plugging it in is key, but also difficult. We found it easier to have the camera connected and unplugged and hold the button down while plugging in the plug. Also, prior to resetting we had it unplugged for 30 seconds before starting this process. You can try this and see if it helps you with your camera. And please let us know if it worked for you.

@@TheManm333 I had (2) V3 cameras that died after the firmware update before the last one. Both would only show a solid red LED and nothing I have tried even a firmware flash has made a difference. I contacted Wyze support and after doing all the steps with them, they had me fill out a form, take a photo of the QR code and Mac ID sticker on the camera and then sent me 2 replacement V3 cameras. This is apparently a known issue with only some V3 cameras. I hope this helps.

It worked for me, but I tried having the mac OSX file in there and that won't work out right. I figured it out with just the bin file inside the extracted file, and putting just that on the SD card, and repeating the hold setup button and it all worked out. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks for making this - it got me further than their website. Unfortunately I'm stuck on the step where the light is purple. What color is it supposed to change to once the firmware finishes reinstalling?

Once the firmware finishes the device should restart like normal. (The last firmware flash I ran took 3-5 minutes start to finish) As long as you are not holding the button it should not try to start it again. I hope this helps you. Thanks for supporting the channel.

Also just a thought, we've had the best success flashing the firmware using only 4GB or 8GB Micro SD cards. The larger cards take longer to access/seek and seem to timeout, but the 4GB and 8 GB cards load faster and have a higher success rate, (at least in our testing.) I hope this helps.

@@SmarthomeRiggs I have tried 32GB and 8GB cards, and none of them worked. But it was a cheaper card. Maybe I'll try a better 4GB card.

Try using a 32GB micro SD and formatting to FAT32 before putting the latest flash file on it. This process has worked for others in our Smarthome Riggs community. I hoe it helps bring your cameras back online. Thank you for supporting the channel.

I have three V3 cameras that work very well until I did the firmware update at the end of July. I also have a V2 camera that I did not do anything too and it works very well. After the download of the firmware to the V3 cameras, none of them would connect to the Internet. I remove my V2 camera from the Internet and reinstalled it so I do not have an Internet problem however, I cannot get the V3 cameras to work any help? I am not that great at understanding computers so I step-by-step instruction would help. Thank you.

I've been using Wyze for several years now, v2 and v3 cams. Just recently all of my v3 cams stopped working, "Cannot connect to local network." The latest update bricked the camera, read all the other comments below. My v2 cameras work the same as always. I've gone through setup 30 times with support and emailed tier 2 support, wasted two days doing every possible thing including this updating firmware from the SD card. I cannot get the purple light. It just goes to red. Waste of my time and money. The best Wyze will do is offer me a $5 gift certificate. I told them to keep it. These will not be replaced with Wyze cameras. When the v2s stop working they'll go in the trash with the v3s.

Like others have posted, I can't get the purple light when following instructions for flashing firmware, only red. Moving through the rest of the steps, I still cannot connect to network so assume the firmware reset was not successful. Are there any other tricks to get around this?

I tried the video but the camera still doesn't work, after a minute in purple led color returns to red color, I restarted it and the led is still in red. Any advice? Many thanks!

This is going to sound lazy, but seriously... try it again. The one I bricked, I had to do three times, before it worked. But on the third time, it was like it came out of the box, and setup properly. Also, make sure you have the file "named" correctly, the v2 and v3 use a different name for the file in the root. I just bought the lamp socket to use with Wyze V3, but the charging part that goes into camera doesn't fit, only the angle one that comes with camera fits. FML

The lamp socket has a proprietary cable that is wired differently than the regular V3 power cable this was the cause of the bricking in the video. The Lamp Socket Will ONLY work with the regular Wyze V3. The reason is, the V3 software interface was designed to work with the LED light attachment they offer and the lamp socket leverages this interface. It sounds like you have the V3 Pan, that is a different camera and interface all together. I hope this helps and thanks for supporting the channel.

I went to update the firmware on my Wyze DoorBell v1, but the power immediately went out, now it no longer works, do you know if there is any method that I can recover it?

I checked the Wyze website firmware flash page and they do not have a way to flash the firmware on that device. I would reach out to Wyze since the issue happened during a firmware update and see if there is anything they can do. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer at the current time. Were you successful in getting the firmware to load (Did the led ever turn purple)? if the led is never lighting "red or purple" then I would have to suggest contacting Wyze to see if they can send you a replacement.

Didn't work for me, I can only get a solid red light like others on here. These are bricked and all Wyze will do now is give you a $5 gift card towards a new Wyze camera.

Boa tarde! Não estou compreendendo o passo à passo do firmware, quando extraído aparece 2 arquivos já nomeados como "demo_wcv3.bin", preciso mudar alguma coisa?

Rename “demo_wcv3.bin” to “demo.bin” and make sure it’s in the root of the micro SD card. Then retry. Hope that help, please let us know.

En la reunión de lanzamiento de las cámaras OG, los muchachos de Wyze respondieron preguntas y algunas se referían a cámaras v3 "bloqueadas". Dijeron que había un firmware que afectaba a un pequeño porcentaje de cámaras v3. Si el suyo es uno y no se puede recuperar con la corrección del firmware, comuníquese con su soporte y estarán encantados de reemplazarlo. At the beginning I just got a red light on the cámara and nothing else then I keep pressing the Setup bottom with the cámara disconnected then I connected the cámara to the power cord and got a purple light ready to flash. Be aware you need to copy the demon firmware on the SD not the Zip.

That is correct, on the Wyze support firmware page ( support.wyze.com/hc/en-us/articles/360031490871-How-to-flash-firmware-manually ) Step 2 states "Download a specific version of firmware, For Windows 10: Right-click on the folder and select extract all. Sorry you're having issues with your camera. When you get it back up and running, it's one of the best cameras in this price-point from ANY manufacturer, and the fact that's it works indoors and outdoors makes it better than most. regarding the card, it's a MicroSD memory card, not a SIM card, (although they are similarly sized, they don't fundamentally different things). But it's true, if you don't have a laptop, desktop, or printer that can read a micro SD card already, then you would need an adapter to perform this fix. If you have security cameras, or dash cam cameras that record to a MicroSD card, you should have one of these adapters anyway, to pull footage direct to your computer if/when needed. They're under $15 on Amazon, (here's one for $6.99 that's USB 3.0, (amzn.to/3nXv9Wp) and one for $12.99 that's USB 3.0 and USB-C, (amzn.to/3uMBc3D). I tried using an 8gb card and it didn't work. It was a cheap no name brand. Went to Walmart and the lowest name brand card was 32gb. I'll try to find a good 4gb card online.
