hoo boy, i'm sorry for taking so long to post this, i hope the length was enough to compensate for the procrastination. i tried to make this as complete as i possibly could, it's their 35th anniversary and they deserve a good dossier, but at 0:22, 12:39 and 16:26, something happened during rendering and i couldn't fix it

IMPORTANT UPDATE: atsushi sakurai sadly passed away on october 19th, 2023. buck-tick will remain active as a 4-member band. we're back to normal schedule y'all! but there'll be more non-music-related videos in the future too tho. once again, sorry for taking so long to make this video

It makes so much sense now, watching your video again after knowing their names and watching performance, interviews, etc ( earlier i just wanted to know them because of atsushi - his edits on insta are doing the job of pulling people towards group- but you know how it ends, right, too late to back of and am deep into the band now) Few things i like abt B-T- 1) MUSIC (you can come here for atsushi but if their music wasn't good or relevant even today, i would have not stayed) 2) each member shines on their own even if they are not in spotlight- imai has crazy passion for music and his ability to make 'ahead of it's time' compositions and as a guitarist, he is just too good, Hide being asked to be the vocalist coz of looks is understandable, he is my second fave in the grp(him in pony tail>>>) 3) line up being kept intact even after 40 years (considering they started in 1983) 4) the way they took their autonomy/ freedom seriously in terms of fashion, music, image, etc in a conservative country with such niche genre 5) except few scandals here and there, how they managed to keep their image clean and life private for decades 6) deciding to promote skaurai as vocalist, i mean.... We all can agree he is the magnet and somewhat responsible for their fandom still sticking with them 7) stage presence 8) their passion for what they do Things i dont like- 1) f ing 3 decades of gap between me and them.... Not knowing them earlier or just not being born during tht era ( but if i was, living in my country, i would have never heard about them ever so thanks to internet) 2) them being sooooo less talkative ..... Earlier interviews are so awkward to watch, shy atsushi doing all the talking (but atleast this made him comfortable now) 3) them being old.... They might anytime disband/ some might leave the group coz of health/ just die 4) lack of subtitles- time to take Japanese learning seriously

I didn't think they would ever disband, but dying... sadly, you were right about that one. Never imagined Atsushi would be the first to go, and so early. Heartbreaking.

Last I checked Hide wrote the instrumentation for Dress not the song itself...Atsushi was the one that did that bit.

hii!! thank you so much for making this. i've been listening to buck tick for a while (not long, a few months maybe) and getting into VKEI overall, but bucktick rlly caught my attention because. well. sakurai but also my funny valentine made something in my brain go WHOO!! so i decided to get into them further when my hyperfixaiton on them came back. this video is really fun and it's a godsend since so many things are inaccessible in vkei fan spaces hehe.

Anyone knows if foreign fans can somehow stream december memorial concert? I still didn't wrap my head around the fact, that Atsushi is gone. I discovered them as a kid through anime Nightwalker Detective. It's been 25 years. Kokoro ga kowarete iku, my heart is broken 💔. Rest in Peace Acchan.

Nunca tinha prestado tanta atenção na banda, sendo sincero. As poucas coisas que tinha escutado na época foram uma dose de músicas tristes, o que nunca fez muito o meu... Nunca foram parte do tom que eu buscava no meu dia-a-dia. Mas agora, nessa revisitada à bandas que nunca tiveram chances comigo, encontrei um tesouraço chamado BUCK-TICK! É música de véio, é! Só que é bãão demaise! Meu jam atual tá sendo "kagerou", ela tem esse traço melancólico e sóbrio que eu gosto no som da banda só que numa baladinha, bem gostosinha de ouvir. Amo demais! Obrigado pelo guia, nunca que eu ia saber o nome deles ou ir tão fundo pra saber sobre a história da banda e as curiosidades (eles são bons, mas não me pegaram tanto assim :P). Fora as músicas que você coloca como degustação! Vídeo perfeito! Que trabalhão!

I've been a fan for 18 years and Toll's words were one of the things I never forgot, back then there were so few places where we could find B-T's translated info so I used to read buck-tick zone over and over. I never ever thought Atsushi would be the first one to go, I'm still in denial, I wanted them to be together forever, I'll forever be in denial.

Hey, you should consider doing voiceover for these so they can be played in the background. While the info is very interesting, staring at w wall of text isn't very engaging, just my 2 cents. I do think you're doing a great job at digging up the info and putting it together though. Cheers!

wait, can u explain to me more? because i keep hearing that "visual kei isnt a fashion subculture its a music genre" and "visual kei is a fashion subculture" and it confuses me which one is right

visual kei is a fashion subculture with influences in music, the name says it all: visual KEI, "kei" in japanese means style referring to fashion (decora kei, fairy kei, mori kei, jirai kei etc.) another way to simplify this is like the example i gave; that's how you can fit the gazette, versailles, an cafe and kiryu inside the same box despite them looking and sounding completely different from one another, because like any fashion subcultures, visual kei has ramifications, but at the end of the day, the basis is the same

@@mirushiroi When I think of V-kei, I think of Malice Mizer. I think Buck-Tick is pure Goth. I am old enough to have been through the Punk and Goth movements in the US in the 80s, so I would say that Imai-san is more playing the part of a 化け狸 in his various guises.

@@mirushiroi Also, when I see Imai-san's costume progression over the years, he reminds me of Noh theatre and the 中将 mask; I think this is also the part that he plays in the band. Toru-san is sensei as he is the oldest, but Imai picks new and exciting directions for Buck-Tick to explore, musically. What do you think?
