Not many singers on TV could pull off an overture because it took up time but for Judy, it was the building of Momentum that made it work for her. It was part of her whole act. Just like the Judy bulbs on the runway it all worked perfectly for her. :)

I TOO was taken aback at the relatively mild polite applause that greeted Judy but then I realized it's a small TV studio audience. As far as flubbing a lyric, she reversed the words of Old Man River and politely asked to restart it - I worked as a nightclub singer for about 17 years and we've all flubbed lyrics here and there (sometimes one even gets creative on the spot if necessary) - but I think it's wonderful to see these things - and her TV shows were like mini masterpieces - not as appreciated in there own time as they most certainly should have been.

That suitcase was my house so as I could be on stage as me with Judy Garland as I was either inside her or that another character acting or singing together. I was a child in that suitcase and I love it so as I knew it was real I would touch her leg before she would stand still or sing walking away. Perhaps some never knew as the stage hands yet truth be told it happen as truth reiteration told 2017

when she came out what kind of weak applause was that after the overture what the hell was wrong with this audience can someone tell me , man they have put me out of the theatre wh that fine bongo player man/
@gregfeil29415 жыл бұрын
The weak applause was probably due to the late hour, small audience, and enormous number of retakes they had already seen. Taping tv shows is nothing like what we end up seeing on our televisions. And to top it off they’d have added enormous applause to the tape for broadcast. She didn’t just come out and sing a song perfectly every time. She hadn’t had much tv experience and had to learn as she went along...the end results are brilliant though.

Laraee Johnson It was a punishing schedule at this period (the concerts) of her show. Judy was made to work until the early hours of the morning. Audience members were made up of die-hard fans, who must have been tired. Judy persevered regardless whilst she maintained her legendary sense of humour.
@laurencebarton2763 жыл бұрын
This was the pilot that led to CBS picking up the show. The audience was there for hours waiting during multiple takes and tries. The durable conductor, Mort Lindsey, who had to deal with a moody Streisand in her Central Park concert, adored Judy. Read Mel Torme's autobiography for more. He replaced Lindsey as musical director. The network never gave the show a genuine chance as she had the Sunday 9 pm slot against Bonanza. But here, her voice is strong and authentic despite her reportedly downing a bottle of Blue Nun before every episode. Pretty remarkable to have this in the archives.

She stopped because she heard something that wasn’t absolute perfection; nothing less would do. These are outtakes, but they are wonderful, as anything she did was! RIP ❤️

This clone was also sent into the world they were made a doctor at a Chicago home as I still love them yet, you the world are still treating them wrong maybe they don't have a soul or spirit because you wanted them that way something soft and beautiful who does what you say, yet to have no feeling to deal with, your idea of the best way. As yes that is were you want them to stay and be, a clone of a real human, that you have altered to use them as why we have animosity with them today. Now you can't tell who is who. Well only the idol who made the original can do this. When you make something, "think, before you place it through as useable it may turn on you someday. The "they" have made a mess of all you have made clones and humans for you have never introduced them to each other in the proper respectable way. 2017 reiteration of yesterday truth be told today. I love you Judy and my Dorothy, Judy's middle sister as I understand what happen as of this so very moment in time.

This was possibly the last show after CBS told Judy, the show was cancelled (hey, they had cancel culture back then too!) It was very tough on Judy as you can imagine, she had pinned her financial future on this show and it was really her last big slice of the cake. Her agents also stole from her during this time, and she knew it, she also had an affair with one of them, so there was a lot going on. I believe they filmed sections of this show late into the night as it was so emotionally difficult for Judy to complete. The amazing thing was she remained charming throughout as you can see and hear. Maybe there were not many people in the audience and maybe they had been waiting a long time? Judy was supposed to do Born In A Trunk (there are great outakes) also a clown number and a finale song called Here's To Us which she did in the same clown make-up. You can also here in the overture 'Love Walked In', which wasn't in the show. Outtakes again survived, but in the end they unceremoniously spliced in old members from earlier shows. I think the cancelling of this great show was one of the things that led to Judy's downfall. She was still brilliant after this however in many concerts and guest spots on other people's shows. The next blow was the terrible Australia fiasco also in 1964. But Judy, despite all her troubles was always funny, gracious and gave 100% to her audience right up until her death in '69. She was a total legend 👏 RIP Judy x

I loved these shows, but the production quality was always crap. Bad lighting, sound and direction. She deserved so much more from her crew.
