It is my humble opinion that Judy Garland was the greatest entertainer who ever lived. No one before or since has topped her. But it's so great to see and hear her with one of my other favorite entertainers: Bobby Darin. The man was amazing!!! Like Judy, he could do it all: act (an Academy Award nominee for CAPTAIN NEWMAN, M.D.), sing and dance. On top of that he was a musician and songwriter. He had a fairly respectable string of hits from many different genres. There was rock n' roll with "Splish, Splash" and "Dream Lover", swing standards with "Mack the Knife" (his biggest hit) and "Beyond the Sea", country with "Things" and folk with "If I Were a Carpenter". An incredible talent who also like Judy left us much too early. Then you realize that the man had a heart condition since childhood and wasn't expected to live past his teens, he is all the more amazing. The spirits of great entertainers like Judy and Bobby will live forever!!!!!

Bobby Darin was an excellent singer! He had excellent breath control and could hold notes and sing several phrases without taking a breath. This was hard on his heart but he was always professional and wanted to do his very best . With his weak heart, this was very taxing and I feel this is why he died so young. His wife Sandra Dee wanted Bobby to just make records and not perform but Bobby wouldn't hear of it. He truly loved performing in concerts and shows with an audience as most good singers do. He must have known what this was doing to his health but he chose to perform and enjoy himself which I'm sure he did. His artistry will live on for many years. 🤔😓🤗❤️

The Martha Raye/Peter Lawford episode was so fantastic beginning to end! Wish Judy had danced to the Nitty Gritty with her dancers!

7:30. Did anyone else hear how Bobby Darin is getting louder and louder to compete with all the big sounds coming out of the orchestra track? Subtle but there. Love these two lovelies singing together. Wow!

Judy’s in glass house glasses shouldn’t throw stones

@@kennethdesmondmosley1075 It’s a myth that Judy drank excessively. Just look at the body of her extensive work in which she performed with utmost professionalism, especially during her tv series. Concentrate your quips about Judy and alcohol toward the real drunkards, like Lawford, Dean Martin, Sinatra and their ilk.

Too funny this kind of TV needs to come back

Her show was on Sunday night up against Bonanza, then the top rated show on tv. CBS never marketed her amazing talent. Thank God for these shows.

most of the stars from that era were pretty hammered. mainly because the demands were way too high and non of them had control of their own lives.

Yes, I believe you. So sad, know how much Judy suffered by studio. MGM. THEN STUDIO OF TELEVISION. BOBBY DARIN WAS FABULOUSLY FUNNY AND GOOD. We, my hubby and I saw him Las Vegas. He opened for Ella Fitzgerald. Great show.

That construction site for "On the Street Where You Live"!! Rather, on the street where you might live in a year or two...Peter Lawford seems past learning lines and blocking. Just hand him a Scotch and let him wander around.

Even with the 'flubs' it's great to see these great stars of yore .

Independently of the flubs, I find it extraordinary, the amount of talent and creativity that went into making these variety-hour type shows. ALL of this was destroyed by "Reality TV". It's really depressing when you think of it!

My favorite part is when Peter Lawford sings/says “Drag City,” and Martha says something that we can’t hear and gives him the funniest look. Love Martha Raye.

This whole disaster is an inside joke that some of the audience got then, but few viewing this now would get. The CBS geniuses wanted Judy to have some weekly features, part of a format to follow. Garry Moore, a successful host, had a "That Wonderful Year" segment every week, and at the end here is an accurate parody of that theme song. Judy's show, except for the finale trunk spot, never had a format because she resisted such corniness. Due to low ratings, CBS blamed Judy's stubbornness.
@terrygrant34674 жыл бұрын
They wouldn't have had low ratings if they would have moved Judy's show to a different time slot.They put her up against the hottest show on TV, which the kids wanted to watch.
