This is a band, not a single person. Mark knopfler is the Singer and guitar player in this band. His brother is also a member in this band. This song is about when mark knopfler saw a band (i don't remember more details). BTW this song is a masterpice.

The song is biographical about when he stopped in a pub. It was him with just a couple of others in the bar no one was paying any attention to the band except Mark. The band was called The Sultans of Swing.

Yep, the original line-up was a four-piece: Mark Knopfler (lead guitar and vocals), David Knopfler (rhythm guitar), John Ilsley (Base) and Pick Withers (drums). Sultans of Swing was their first single. The lineup changed a lot over the years Mark and John and the only constants.

I hate sounding like an "old guy" at the age of 41 but I love seeing younger people discovering actual musicians. I grew up in the music scene and I find myself getting so let down by how many "artists" rely on so many other people and electronics just to make them sound good. These guys are real deal.. Mark Knopfler is an amazing guitarist to watch.. Watch a live video of him playing..

One way I like to look at this song is this: The guy that's talking is the narrator, while the one singing the song is the guitar. It's one of the few songs I've ever heard where I felt like the guitar was actually singing, and if I could just listen close enough, I just might make out the words. By the way, the instrument is an electric Fender guitar. Also, Dire Straits is a band.

Mark Knopfler is such a talent. Also check out 'Romeo & Juliet', 'Skateaway', 'Telegraph Road', 'Lady Writer', 'Private Investigation' and 'Communique'. For me though, their most impactful song is 'Brothers In Arms', a tribute to fallen soldiers and the futility of war (recorded around the time of the Falklands War).

I like to hear reactors mention other reactors, even in passing, like you mentioned *Mr. Video* in a funny way. Whether or not you know each other personally, this lets us know you're aware of each other at least in the same way we viewers are aware of you -- it adds to the warm connection experience, the reason we viewers watch you instead of listening to familiar music by ourselves. This is the same reason I love to hear *any* KZfaq content producer refer to any other content producer, regardless of the subject, whether it's music, or math, or science, or food preparation, or movies, or whatever. These references connect what would otherwise be hops between isolated and mutually unaware islands.

Mark Started his adult life as a journalist...He was always into stories, he was a voracious reader and as a musician, translated his love for stories into musical journeys. As you listen to more of his songs you will definitely see that many of his compositions are based on books he read, or articles he read from magazines...His story telling is non paralleled. Telegraph road is based on a book about the first road in Detroit Michigan...Sailing to Philadelphia is a song based on the book The Mason Dixon Line, and the song is sung with James Taylor and Marks taking turns...It is a fantastic song.
