Unbelievable Dock Disaster: Who's at Fault? I see these accidents all the time on social media but this was my first in person! Lots of sticky red tape just because it's at the port so supervisors left and right watching your every move. The ports are heavily automated now, which means these giant cranes do not have an operator in them. They're built for speed and efficiency, but accidents still happen. The driver is also responsible for checking their locks to make sure the container is not attached to the chassis. Maybe the driver forgot to check the locks, or maybe the machine was too fast and lifted before the driver could do that? I've also heard of drivers removing the locks while in line, then by the time they get to this spot the locks vibrate back into place.
Dave in our 75ton rotator, aka Big Flipper, and myself in my 50ton rotator, aka Hulk, tag teamed this one in a way we haven't before. Instead of one truck controlling the front and one in the back, we split the load down the middle side to side instead. This was Dave's plan, and man oh man did it work beautiful.
This method allowed us to bring it up high enough to clear the fence and machine it was stuck on without damaging anything, then from there we worked our magic along with the machine operator to free the back. Once free, we rotated in opposite directions to get the tractor and chassis straight, then set down to the ground.
I used my Sony FX3 with a Sony F1.8 20mm lens on a DJI RS3 Mini gimbal for almost all shots, with the exception of the few obvious iPhone 14 Pro shots. What do you guys think?
Don't forget to head to www.pepestowla.com/shop after the video and grab your cool Pepe's swag to represent your favorite tow company!

Very complex job, but if you're familiar with my channel you know I don't like the drama. Like the TV shows where they show up to a wreck and dramatize on how they're going to get it done. We show up, analyze, get a game plan and execute it. Sometimes we change our plan once or twice which is OK, but it's important the team is always in sync.

So was in the wrong, the driver who didn't unlock the pins or the guy with remote controlled crane WHO FAILED TO CONFIRM it was unlocked and FAILED TO READ THE WEIGHT being lifted. Probably both got fired.

Working at the docks for the past 22 years, I gotta say a couple of things about this incident: these happen with people behind the wheel on the straddle carrier, but it seems AI doesn't make it any different - if the twistlocks aren't fully unlocked, you're gonna lift the truck & trailer and notice it too late. Truck drivers don't always remember to open or check the twistlocks on the trailer, and this is a fairly common end result of that. As for how it ends? In about 99,9% of the cases it's the same: straddle carrier ends the shift with zero damage, the other one gets a ride on the tow truck for heavy repairs. Beautiful work with the recovery, didn't see any additional damage done to truck or trailer. Great workmanship!

Great work on this one. It's especially great you were able to dislodge the back of the trailer without being able to directly rig to it. With that suspended container hanging above, you couldn't go back into that area. Some might not think of the "thou shalt not work underneath a suspended load" rule, which made your job tougher (but safer).
@PepesTowingService
@PepesTowingService Жыл бұрын
You hit it on the head. We COULD HAVE rigged to the rear and pulled it, but we could have caused more damage brute forcing it that way. The way we did it by rotating the front back and forth gently allowed it to break free without any damage.

In 91 I went to a tow truck convention and saw the prices of big tows costed. I usually laughed when people complained about how much recovery costed. I had a highway patrol complaining about how long it was taking for me to flip a car from the roof back on the wheels. I worked for AAA AUTO CLUB not a contractor. This was being done under membership. He must have said 5 time I better hurry up. He had what is known as a 304 now in front seat. his membership card🤔🤔🤔 . Yes he was on duty in the department car. What I was actually doing was flipping it so the role off that was 10 minutes away could pull up without messing up any late night trafic. When the other truck showed up cop complained to him about how long this took. He just said want me to call your wife who is the main on your membership. 😅😅😅 nothing was said again
