Interesting video. I have used Thread Master 2-part exclusively for the past 4 years and have always had excellent results. Typically I will apply 2 coats on the larger guides and one coat on the snake guides. Needing to apply 4-5 coats just to get a level finish seems excessive. From what I have seen and read below, I'll stick with the 2-part finish.

That's amazing! Aside from my first rod I want to build, im going to start using this on my custom lures as well! Never knew that stuff exsisted! Also, I've been watching a lot of your videos and thank you for all the tips and teachings your giving to us all! I'm working hard to school myself up on building and your vids are awesome!

Thank you very much and I am glad to hear that you find the videos I make useful. Not sure how the finish will work on your lures, but do a practice run first. Seems like if there is long exposure to water, it causes the finish to fog over, but it goes away once it dries.

I have used Bullard Diamond II for the last 14 years. Have never tried Threadmaster 1, but always looking for new ways to finish rods. I am really surprised how much finish was soaked up in that first coat. I thought you had put a pretty heavy coat on first. It originally looked as if it was going to have some fisheyes or dimples, but they seem to have eliminated with the rotational drying. Looks pretty good, not quite to the point I will give up my Diamond II, but might be a good intercoat prior to my Diamond II.

As you store the bottle for later use. Does get any sort of skin layer that you have to get through for a subsequent use? When all that is happening is “air” and “time” to finish your thread work, curious whether any of starts to dry in the bottle. Thanks for doing this review!!

It just hit me after watching and thinking it looked really similar to another product I use in airbrushing. Createx UVLS 4050 clear is eerily similar in color and consistency, water clean up and inability to use any heat during curing process. Hmmmmm, I wonder……..

I love it will definitely be getting some I definitely would want to flex a rod over etc I would try to let a good bit dry in a cut pull the “” disc cup out and bend it and see how Clear it is at different times say 5 hrs 10hrs etc all the way to 72 and see if you don’t have to wait that long to let it fully cure maybe you could fish the rod after 24 hrs I know I always like to test things they give you directions but sometimes you find that it doesn’t need everything lol I currently use Gen 4 it’s good but if they have a 1 part clear I would definitely use it .

I read about this a while back but for me I will not be giving it a go either. Earlier this year I switched to a full UV custom resin that can actually be thinned down if needed to get layers on - I have set up a UV cabinet where I can get 6 - 10 rods completely finished with a crystal clear hard as nails finish in 1 hr. The best part is that I can run this system in any weather or condition.

Does adding any powder or liquid pigments for marbling effect the outcome?
@reelbluecustomrods
@reelbluecustomrods 11 ай бұрын
Great question @robbyluna9818 and sort of. The powder pigment performed well and did not effect the overall finished product if you will. However, I was not a fan on how the yellow, liquid pigment performed with the One Coat product by Thread Master. Hope this helps, and thank you for watching and commenting.

This is an interesting video and I appreciate you making it. Although I am a fan of Thread Master brand, and enjoy comparing different finishes, I have never been tempted to try one part finish. This product might be good for a base coat because it is extremely thin. After seeing the second through forth coat it appears that much of this finish must be evaporating rather than soaking into the threads. Even after four coats you could still see the grooves in the thread. I have never seen any finish that could possibly go on thin enough that you could see thread grooves (unless you use extremely thick thread) after four coats! Good video, not a product I would buy though...

When you test it if it would turn yellow when water was applied, per the Mudhole comment, you only tested it for a few minutes, brushing on "fresh water". The Mudhole user, could have been fishing ALL day and maybe in salt water. That's not a fair test. However, we don't have enough information on the conditions for either the Mudhole reviewer or this video.

I build a lot of rods but do more repairs. How is that stuff to get back off when a customer rakes a guide off? When you build it up, how is it as far as flexibility or cracking around the guide feet? Any idea what the shelf life is for that the one part coating? We had a few guys around this area building rods using Permagloss and fixing a damaged guide with that stuff built up with many coats was a real mess. The biggest advantage to Flex Coat has been that its flexible, has a moderately long working time, and a long shelf life, if not indefinite being its an epoxy. Its also the most affordable that I've found since I can buy it in large quantities and it lasts on the shelf without concern.

The person who said it turns to jelly when it got wet didn't apply it properly and did not allow it to cure as per instruction. Also if you are fishing with a rod and it is basically soaking in water al the time,maybe you shouldn't be fishing at all, much less with a rod. If someone didn't make a negative comment about a one part product that could blast all the other two part products out the window, I would be surprised. Competition against expensive products. If you apply it properly and let it cure adequately, there should be no issues. No water can generate it or dilute it. Thinknabout people like me with no special rod shop with temperature control, who may just build two to five rods a year or do repairs mostly for me and friends, two part epoxy is very expensive for us. More than ten times you pay for it and is not readily available. We can't waste as much as you do in the US. High build epoxies are still useful for thick costs on heavy saltwater rods but you won't need to fight with hearing it, applying it fast before it sets up and you get a lot of waste, have to do too many clean ups and repairs. Those two reviews may be from pro coat and flex coat...don't quote me.on that...lol

Thank you Paul for watching and commenting, and I’m glad you find the one coat product useful. In my opinion, every has their favorite products, and someone will always find something wrong or a reason why they don’t like some products out there. That is why I try to do an unbiased review of the product and let people make their own decisions about it. Again, thank you for commenting and adding your opinion to the video thread. 🙏
