I don't struggle with faith which isn't to say that I have all the answers to my questions..I still, in many ways struggle with why God allows certain kinds of pain and suffering but I know there was reason for the pain and suffering of Christ on the cross so that's where my mind goes when I see suffering that "seems" arbitrary. I think the Christian faith, the Bible has the best explanatory reasons why the world is the way it is in terms of humanity and its fallen nature...also, there's so much to sift through ie the laws of logic, the laws of physics, the moral law, the eye witness testimony of Scripture, the historisity of Jesus of Nazareth..it really is a cumulative case. Lastly, since neither God nor evolution can be proved we rely on inference to come to the best conclusion..so even atheists have faith. Faith is only as good as the object in which it's placed. If we consider all the aforementioned God is incomprehesively great..beyond what we can apprehend about Him in regard to all of those things..so I think the Christian has the best reasons for placing their faith in Christ...I could go on with respect to having an eternal perspective on life..and on and on..

Much of the Bible is carefully recorded history (proven) and much is cultural at the time of Christ. The Old Testament (Torah) is history and the law given by God to his people. Do you even understand what reality is ? You can google that too and get a better idea but basically reality is made out of stuff, it's a thing that we could possibly influence in the future just like huge gravitational bodies warp space and time. Study, study, study because no one is just going to offer you the answers on a gold plate that's why we have soo many religious people because idiots are happy being served from the same menu for decades but smart people make their own food as they progress because they actually care about what they eat.

Numbers will come up but they don’t have any purpose. The fine tuning of the universe is very difficult to explain by random chance. I would say much more difficult than rolling dice.

Even His resurrection is proven by The Crucifixion and nothing else. There is some good history, but that is far from proof. For me to even defend my own epistemology is very time consuming. Your definition fits many of the events, but is not the meaning of the word in Scripture. The miracle I speak of is not a defiance of physical law but rather an indication of God's power, an event for which there is no other possible explanation. The wisdom of The Cross is beyond any human wisdom, and so cannot be a myth because no human has the wisdom capable to orchestrate such a myth. Nothing else compares. If you are given the wisdom to see that, then you will see it. The New Testament is a level of wisdom so drastically surpassing the best wisdom ego can offer, and without ego lying is impossible, so the Scripture cannot be lies either. Truth and wisdom and rightousness are one, so such wisdom requires righteousness, and so again cannot be lies. If you've noticed how pathetic trolls are, then you should easily see that Scripture is not a troll. The liars of this world demonstrate how pathetic the minds of liars are. For instance, Islam came from liars and it's absurd. Buddhism and Taoism are honest, and they are not absurd. Now, Jacob, if you do not have Truth then you are not aware how obvious, stupid, and pathetic lies are. If you were aware of that, you would see that Scripture is not lies. I understand that difference, which is why I see a world full of atheists who choose to believe in a sense of moral right and wrong even though their materialism leaves them no rational basis for doing so. It is possible one could demonstrate their relationship with God via the fruit of their labor. Possible God canNOT exist, but less and less probable the more we learn about our universe and the beginnings of life on this Earth. This one was more focused on legitimacy of religion backed conducts vs atheistic humanist ones. I'm not a guy that supports Matt on his humanist morality tirades, but I do think he is a power house of debate. He is very solid. I appreciate very much the hint. I'm not a theist but I do believe religion and Christianity have very usefull qualities to offer to social cohesion and moral high grounds. I think Christians and atheists should unite forces to push back mostly on Islam, which for me still holds very archaic practices that are spreading at full throttle in Africa, Asia, Middle East and transfiguring Europe with no going back. I very much wish people take Islam seriously and go to the frontlines, prozelitizng for western values and way of life.

I can understand that it is overwhelming in the beginning to filter out the djungle of religions, so let me lend a helping hand. :) These are the three greatest reasons for why Christianity rises above other religions: 1. The account in Genesis is in alignment with modern cosmology. The other mythological accounts are NOT in alignment with modern cosmology. (see "Science and Creation" by Stanley Jaki for more information). 2. Pantheistic polytheism says that their gods are *internal* of time and space. This is NOT in alignment with modern cosmology. Theism in monotheism says that god is *external* of time and space, which is in alignment with modern cosmology. Now, you have narrowed it down to Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Islam is false because of the islamic dilemma (qurannic dilemma) and judaism is false because of isaia 53 (among others) in the Old Testament. (see Michael Brown´s "Answering jewish objections about jesus" and "Mohammed did not exist" by Robert Spencer if you want more information). This leaves Christianity. If the resurrection is true, Jesus is the Son of God (for real) and everything he said is true. 3. The historical evidence for the resurrection is overwhelming. I can recommend "The case for the resurrection of Jesus" by the former agnostic and world-expert historian Gary Habermas and "The resurrection of Jesus: a new historiographical approach" by former agnostic historian Mike Licona. (And no, the resurrection is NOT copied from pagan myths. The legend-hypothesis was popular during the 19th century, but has since been rejected by academic historians. The channel "Inspiring Philosophy" goes through this in great detail. He is a former atheist. "Testify" is also a useful channel.)

Hi Eric, since you are an atheist, your sadness at eventually seeing the last church in your town closed down means a lot. In the US, church attendance is also declining. Jesus even asked the rhetorical question, when he comes again, will he find faith on the earth? It seems the answer is, he won't.

Eric Henderson, religion co-opts, or claims as its own, that which is innately human: love, forgiveness, morality, togetherness, community... The paradigm is dying, the churches are shuttered, but the human traits remain. Start a weekly social group in your town, sing songs, have beliefs not requiring magic, do good things, take back what creed has left in its passing.
