Yep. Waiting for this review. Great Was surprised to hear your perspective on the parallel fret sitting at the 12th
@BelugaTheHutt
@BelugaTheHutt 4 жыл бұрын
Not everyone is bothered by a wide fan on the lower strings! His opinion is valid. But the reason why there are so many people he cites at 9:59 who make a big deal about the parallel fret being at the 12th fret is because they don't share his opinion. There are many guitarists who do not find that type of fan to be comfortable. For example, I've had consistently miserable experiences with an Ibanez 8-string with a parallel 12th fret and a 27.26"-25.5" spread, and even found Kiesel's parallel 9th fret to be a bit far for my liking. On the other hand, when I've had the opportunity to play ESP's multiscale line, which uses a parallel 5th fret, I've been far happier with the comfort. It's important to be able to try out guitars with different fans in-person and get a feel for what your needs are as a player. Something that doesn't bother Arnold might bother you, and vice-versa.

@@BelugaTheHutt thanks for sharing I only tried an Ibanez 7 string fanned fret once. The higher positions are OK although I don't think I was able to play my favorite chord voicings rather well in the 1st position. Although I suspect that's mainly due to my small left hand (I'm Asian)

I respect you, my dude. I continue to return to your review videos because of your honesty. In a sea of guitar and gear review KZfaq channels that are obviously paid to shill products and don't disclose it according to FTC guidelines (Riffs, Beards & Gear, SpectreSoundStudios, Rabea Massaad, Ola Englund, & many, many more), your credibility is a breath of fresh air. The funniest thing about it is, I find videos about gear I'm interested in, then these people say the most eye-roll enducing BS and shilling it so hard with bogus claims that it completely turns me off from wanting to get the product. Please, never falter from your unbiased review format.

interesting looking into atlaswood... also awesome to see some budget guitars using stainless steel, that is a huge deal for me... i hate nickle frets more and more these days. The tuning issues need to be fixed, if they work on the tuners, i'd totally buy one. from GOC - atlas wood is made from ecofriendly recycled materials without harmful chemicals that bind plant fibers creating a solid dense structure

Having a few decades of work and educational experience in manufacturing, as well as chemistry, (toxicology and pharmacology included) and in biotech, over 30 years of building handmade guitars and basses, about 35 years in various areas of woodworking (professionally at first, then just for enjoyment, and now professionally again s of last year), plus having many years of experience dealing with Chinese companies, yeah, I'm going to hold my endorsements of atlaswood until I see some kind of written documentation of what actually goes into producing atlaswood. I need to know more about its chemical composition, its manufacturing processes, and the by-products produced ( including the period of off-gassing that all chemically bound fibrous and/or composite materials, no matter how, "natural," or synthetic, must go through). I'll keep an open mind, and having been raised by an environmentalist mother, I'll remain hopeful, but let's just say I've been not exceptionally thrilled with the track record of companies in China, or in my own United States for that matter, when it comes to claims of environmentally friendly, and safe, and non-hazardous. My mom told me stories of tanker trucks making nightly rounds through every neighborhood spraying a thick cloud of DDT to keep the mosquitos, "under control," and parents and children alike being actively encouraged to be completely engulfed in what we now know to be not only carcinogenic, teratogenic, mutagenic, an endocrine disruptor, and to be lipophilic to the degree it accumulates in many areas of the body and bioaccumulates as it is consumed and passed up trophic levels in a food web (food chain). I did not believe her at all until I saw multiple films of this actually happening in city after city after city. I was told a composite lumber product 25 years ago was, "perfectly safe," only to learn about high levels of formaldehyde ( not safe, used in embalming fluid), and three other uncommon chemicals that I knew to be at the very least carcinogenic, and strong endocrine disruptors ( two of them specifically interfere with testosterone production and metabolism, playing a role in lowering sperm counts and growing boobs on men, not even joking at all). We, my wife and I, do our best to ensure that every exotic and domestic hardwood that we use in our instruments is produced and harvested using sustainable practices. We've gone so far as my wife, who is half Indonesian, actually travelled to Indonesia two years ago to participate in artistic seminars and workshops in a tropical paradise, and while there she did personal, seeing with her own eyes, research into our Indonesian Hardwood vendors and suppliers, and we were able to determine who was actually committed to sustainability and who was just putting words on paper while cutting and burning and leaving a wasteland behind, and I'm not even joking here either. I actually really do hope that it turns out to be as ecologically friendly and non-toxic, especially non toxic by-products, but only time will tell.

"Atlaswood," is an engineered material. Having extensive work and educational background in both high tech modern manufacturing, and several areas of chemistry and biotechnology, I am very interested in learning more about the specifics of this material, its chemical composition, the processes involved in creating this material and manufacturing these instruments with this material, and I'm also curious how this material behaves over the longer term. Having built custom handmade guitars and basses for about 25 years, playing and working on both for over 30 years, I am not one to jump on board with the latest materials and technologies until they've sufficiently proven themselves and passed the test of time. And I'll give you respect 🤘🏿😎👍🏿 for having the integrity and honesty to be critical where you felt it was needed. These days, a Chinese made, almost completely CNC milled ("routed"), instrument, with that array of pros and cons, specs like these, are in a lower price range, and the competition is fierce, with so many brands now competing for the below $1000, yet having higher expectations than ever before, instrument buyers. When I got my first guitar, a Kramer Focus 4000, Japanese made, genuine Floyd Rose, Grover tuners, Alder body, Rosewood fretboard, and Maple neck, w/ hardshell case included, many experienced guitarists, like those in my family, were shocked by the quality and playability (even moreso after swapping out the stock pickups for DiMarzios on day two, and swapping those out for a set of Duncans a week later), but in the mid 80's most people's expectations for a $400 to $600 instrument were tempered by experience, and below $400 nobody was surprised if it was flat out crappy. Thankfully, those days are LONG GONE! These days we've come to expect that any instrument at almost any price point should have good qualities, though under $300 to $400 there's still a degree of inconsistency with many builders, but much higher standards and much higher buyer expectations.

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNmFdcKl26u9h58.html Google Blackwood Tek. It's pine fiber injected with natural material (I'm guessing a type of undense epoxy) that creates Blackwood. GOC just calls it Atlas wood, it's the same thing.

Well, that packs some default requirements in that guitar. (it sounds dam good) The neck also looks excellent. The fingerboard. The tuning thing ............hmmmm? It's perhaps worth mentioning that "headless" isn't exactly a saturated market is it? Finding good deals and quality will always get interest. uh.............there's something desirable about the headless idea. Non complicated instruments. (just appealing) That beer must be divine.......indeed. Clear. Thanks for your good recording and how you demo the "sound" of the guitars. That can't be easy to achieve over hhe oceans and TINKERNET. Thanks for your efforts Arnold...........always. V

@knivedytria

I only had to tune once each restring. The zsr bridge have zero give/movement after you set it up. The only reason for tuning instability is the string is most probably sliding off the nut because it’s not secured tightly. A few twist of an allen key will fix any tuning issue within 5 seconds. You should try one. I think goc would be happy to refund you if such a problem exists.

Arnold, thanks for the videos. But just gotta suggest that you work on your left-hand wrist posture. Its too bent too often dude, it massively increases your risk of getting tendinitis/RSI. Straighten it out as much as you can as often as possible. A big part of it is how you're holding the guitar, bring the guitar to you, rather than you bringing yourself to the guitar which is what you're doing. As an extreme example of what to do check out Franz Halasz play or other classical guitarists like Andrey Lebedev

I really want an 8 string - but it seems like this is really the only one ArnoldPlaysGuitar has made sound like an acceptable compromise under $1k -even though he says for $800 he was kind of middling on. At least vs. the Agile and Jackson X he reviewed this didn't sound too bad. I can live with / do something interesting with a guitar with a lame finish...the tuning stability is kind of a bummer...

I also have a materia and never had tuning problems. You might want to check if the nut is properly secured without over-tightening. The strings are probably gradually sliding off the nut, hence the tuning instability. On my materia, the only time I had to tune is after changing strings. You might also want to check if the wrapping at the ball end of the strings are getting caught in the saddles. Your guitar probably just needs a proper setup.

If the neck is made of a composite that is stable, and the bridges are well secured (and it certainly sounds like the tuning wheels aren't slipping, by your description) then the culprit of the tuning stability issue is either the neck hardware is slipping under tension, or the clamping screws behind the zero fret are not tightened down enough, or are themselves slipping.
