The symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative conditions develop when toxins such as amyloid accumulate in the brain. Isolated from the normal circulation, the brain relies instead on the glymphatic system to clear waste material via the cribriform plate. Doug Ethell presented evidence for progressive blockage of that route with age, correlating with neurodegeneration, and discussed ongoing trials of an implanted device designed to restore healthy flow and thus halt - or perhaps even reverse - disease progression.
