Unboxing several boxes acquired at Habanos Fest in Havana, Cuba in March 2017. Includes the Bolivar Petit Corona, San Cristobal La Punta, Trinidad Fundadores. Also: custom robustos from Juanita at Hotel Melia Cohiba and Monsdales from Jorge at Club Habana! Also some notes on freezing cigars -- how to, and why.

Very nice!! Been smoking cigars for a very long time. I would have invested totally in custom rolled after sampling and finding the size to my liking. The boxes of official ones are definitely going to be more expensive due to presentation and economics of running a factory. A lot of cigar smokers love the boxes to impress with the bands, limited editions, ultra rare, etc. I have had custom rolled cigars from bundles selected by visitors that have totally blown away the official ones. I would also say that resident cigar smokers rarely smoke the official ones as they are more geared toward exportation and tourist trade. They probably have access to the best quality and most flavorful and keep it for themselves. Just my opinion but I think by sampling and selecting custom rolled would yield some major diamonds in the ruff. Present that to cigar smoker who loves cigars and they would immediately ask and how to acquire some. Also, as you age those boxes, sample one on occasion to see how they are smoking. I have sampled some cigars that were aged for ten years and have gone totally bland and tasteless.

Carlos Fuente said in a recent interview, a good cigar is ready to smoke right out of the box. No aging is neccesary.

Just got back from Cuba last week and stayed a few blocks from Melia Cohiba! I'm a novice when it comes to cigars but brought some back so want to preserve my "investment". Does freezing them kill the beetle larvae inside? Is it necessary to do this freezing technique more than once? Also, I live in socal without a/c in my house so temps can hit above 80deg, what's the best way to protect my cigars? I bought an acrylic cigar jar with boveda packet 69% and was going to store in my room. Is this sufficient when temps are higher? Thanks!

Brian Jost You don’t need to do it more than once as long as you do it right. I would always worry about cigars in temps over 75. 80 is definitely the danger zone. If you really want to be worry free you’ll need to invest in a wineador. I recommend Newair or Wynter 28 bottle/300 cigar models.

Excuse me if I'm rude for asking. But how much were those custom rolls you got from Juan. I'm going next month and I want to try more custom rolls this trip

The Jorge customs were 6CUC I believe. Jorge is no longer in Cuba, sadly. Try Alex at Hotel Comodoro.

When you freeze did you do the whole box or did you take the cigars out and then wrap everything up. Would the extra air inside of a box or cabinet box affect the cigars when freezing or thawing or give them a higher chance to crack?

Whole box. Double wrap it and take out as much air as possible. If you do the fridge for 24 hours first, you should have no cracking. Good luck!

Great video! When you went to Cuba, did Juanita and the places you bought your cigars speak English? That’s the only think that’s holding me back. Don’t know Spanish. Dying to go soon!

All Havana cigars that are genuine and legally exported from Cuba are frozen for a period prior to shipping. Unless you're buying dodgy cigars you do not need to freeze your Havanas... I've been smoking Cuban cigars for over 15 years now and have worked for a Havana cigar specialist in the UK and not once, ever, have I even seen a sign of tobacco beetles and neither has anyone I ever worked with in the industry or anyone I know who smokes cigars.

Yes we are aware of this; however, these were not exported. As stated in video, we brought these from Cuba ourselves, which means Habanos did not freeze them for us.
