With regurds to the British Army's use of M1 Grarand rifles certain elements of 3 Commando Brigade used them whilst fighting in Burma during the Second World War.

Another instance where Commonwealth forces used the M1 Garand would be with the creation of the First Special Service Force during the 2nd world war combining Canadians and Americans into the same regiment using US kit, excellent video as usual keep up the great work!

Yes, another great example of M1 Garands in Commonwealth service! They were of course only used in what would be considered “limited service”, but it’s service non the less! Thanks, old boy!

My first boss in work was in the RAF during WW2 he was transferred to the Fleet Air Arm near the end of the war. He was sent out to the Far East for the invasion of Japan and he was issued an M1 Garrand. Not sure why was his unit supporting/liaising with US forces perhaps?

That’s quite an interesting story and very cool story! I’m suspecting as well that it must be some liaison situation, something that was working very closely with any sort of US unit. Normally, commonwealth forces seemed to have always been big into keeping their own arms. Do you happen to know his exact unit?

@@TheFarOffStation I’ve read a little about this. The idea was that the ‘Commonwealth Corps’ would be issued with US weapons and equipment to simplify the supply situation.

@@E350tb when you get down to it, makes a significant amount of sense. When you're going to be working alongside a size-able number of US forces and thus supply chains, such considerations seem really smart. It always makes me wonder what interesting things would have occurred in the Far East in late 45 and into 46, if the war hadn't ended.

They are different for each regiment, as each regiment had their own facing color. Did you have a particular regiment in mind?

@@jtnelson8828 those are things that are bespoke, I suggest James Dix Tailoring or Khaki on Campaign. Each of them can easily be found online and are in the UK. Let me know if this works out or you need more information!

@@jtnelson8828 the two major repro companies What Price Glory, and Soldier of Fortune, each make decent repros. I don’t know what your budget is, but I wholeheartedly recommend Richard Knight of Khaki on Campaign, he’s as close as you’ll get to an original in a reproduction!

Great vid cool garand. If you Think finding 30-06 Is hard rn you should try and find 6.5 Japanese or 7.7 Japanese. My classics are starving for ammo. (Ignoring the ones that the ammo hasn't been made in decades lol)

This is why I shouldn’t have bought something in a new caliber! It’s amazing how even the most obscure calibers are sparse these days. That’s being said, I’d really like a Japanese Type 38, I know that stuffs already so limited, can’t even imagine what that’s like now!

@@TheFarOffStation I'm just surprised you can find .303 for your mk4. I've found 1 box of 20 for my 1915 mk3*. It's miserable restoring a rifle like that and not finding the ammo needed lol

@@danielhenderson5651 most excellent! Japanese rifles are very cool, and for a long while, were under appreciated! The only reason I could take any of the Lee Enfield’s out, is that I had some .303 on hand. Just for fun, I’d looked up .303 a few months ago, and that was tremendously expensive, if you could even find it! Crazy times!

I know the the M1 Carbine was in use with the Chindits, but I'm not aware of them using the M1 Rifle. They very well could have, I just don't know.

Field Grades are $650 from the CMP, including the case, shipping, etc. It's a pretty good deal if you ask me.

@@pondyellow3286 on the open market, that’s closer to what the price would probably be, but the CMP sells them for a fair price when they bring them back from overseas. People online just price gouge, and they get away with it because people are willing to pay it “because it’s old, it’s WWII”. If you just buy from the CMP, it’s a fair price, and honestly, not hard at all.

What if I told you almost everyone that has gun Knowledge or handles Firearms knows that its a Garand....but even the soldiers that used this Rifle didn't even call it a "Garand" do you also call a M-4 or a M-16 a Garand too? lol as soon as I seen those shorts I should of known you were going to be calling it a Garand brahahaha don't shoot your eye out. Good luck with your channel either way though! Oh PS the Rifle was officially called U.S. Rifle, Caliber 30 M1. the term "Garand" is a nod to the genius that created this masterpiece but was only ever called that by civilians or those that didn't know the Official name of the Rifle....Just saying or call it what it is, "The gun that won the war"

Its not panic buying. Its new Shooters. There have been a crazy number of new gun owners, and if each one only buys one box, its still millions of rounds.

The past year has seen a sizable increase of new firearm owners, particularly in the Asian-American community due to the xenophobia of the pandemic. That being said, it isn’t the only reason there is an ammunition shortage, panic buying, new ownership, etc, are all a facet of it.
