Electrfiy Bike also sells a very portable solar setup, 12” x 16” x 2”, about 10 lbs, 200 watts, and you can hook two up in series for a whopping 400 watts. Uses an mppt charger to step up your voltage to anything from 36 to 72v. Also uses very efficient SunPower cells. Best option I’ve seen so far at $700. I’ve also been looking at using other foldable panels but none that I’ve found are as portable (size- or weight-wise) as these two options, so unless you’re pulling a pretty big trailer, like a Burley Flatbed, a Surly Bill or Ted, or something similar from WIKE or BikesForWork, traditional foldable panels from Bluetti for example are a no go. You will take a big hit in efficiency just laying these things flat as well, so you definitely need a way to angle your panels correctly to get the best sun. Lightest, most convenient option would to use tent stakes for the bottom edge and some fiberglass tent stakes with shock cords for the top edge. With the amount of solar required to charge up a beefy ebike battery “quickly” (a very relative term here) any option is going to be expensive, so I think it really only makes a ton of sense if you are planning a multi-day or multi-month ebike tour that will have you riding through very remote areas where you won’t have any other options.

Love the product. I can see where that would come in handy. But, way too pricey. They need to get that down to about the cost of a good battery. Because at that price that they’re offering it. You could buy a couple of the extra batteries.
@anonymes2884
@anonymes2884 2 жыл бұрын
I agree it's too expensive (even compared to other, similar products) BUT the point about extra batteries is maybe missing _the_ point IMO - the real use case here is genuine off-grid touring or ebike camping. If you're going on a long weekend trip, sure, take extra batteries. If you're biking across a desert or travelling to other places without reliable mains electricity (where after 2 or 3 days your extra batteries will just be expensive paperweights) then you need something like this.

What kind of bike battery were you using? The bike I'm interested in has a 500 watt battery. What would I need to charge that while mobile? My plan is to try to get an extra battery or 2 to have a spare charged up and ready, one in use and one charging from the trailer on the panel and rotate as needed.

I watched some of your videos and you answer people's questions with videos. I had a question. I have 2 ebike batteries that I want to make a mini electric generator to power my tv and maybe a dvd player when the power goes out for a few hours. I have a total of around 130 cells one battery had 70 somethings and the other one has about 40. Idk if you would want to do a video using old Ebike batteries to make a power station that will work for like 3 or 4 hours. How many batteries do I need to do something like this I am willing to order some more batteries if needed.

I always thought it'd be interesting to put panels on a trailer but that a lot of real-estate for a bike. Be a good backup for touring though if one of your planned charge stops doesn't pan out, or bikebacking when you simply can't plug in anywhere.

I just bought this, 389.00 right now. They are running a special apparently. I'm looking forward to receiving it! I recently did and 85 mile ride to a campground that had tents sites with electricity so I charged up there. I stayed 3 days and had a good time. I have two batteries for my commuter E-bike so plenty of range but the downside is that eventually I have to plug in. I'd like to do a tour where I charge by solar only so I am hoping this will be what I need. I was going to build my own kit but decided the price of this right now was worth purchasing because of the design of it. I need it all to be as small as possible and this seems to be what I am looking for.
