I would love some more cause of color episodes! It's always interesting to see the unique ways that a single element can produce color in gems and minerals.

In the 90's we sold peridot from Afghanistan that was an amazing green. I always wondered if it had Chromium. When I had a retail store I would say to lingering customers, " If you stay much longer I will have to give you the Chromium lecture." they always asked what that was and stayed to hear how Chromium could turn Emeralds green but Rubies red.......

Yes please, to more 'cause of colour' episodes. Something I love about peridot is that it can also be found in some meteorites, so it can be extraterrestrial in origin.

I seriously love this channel if I gotta be honest cause like I'd be just scrolling and they would be talking about how an iron affects some lil air pocket and all of a sudden it's a pretty rock. I hope I'm making sense English isnt my first language

It would be really interesting to learn about more newly discovered or unusual stones used for jewelry like yttrium (lavender) fluorite and tourmalated quartz. Speaking of, do any stones have pure(ish) iron inclusions? TY

I may have been the one who specifically requested a video about iron based gemstones😃 so thank you for this! So the reason I asked is because iron allegedly gives very strong spiritual protection. I make protective amulets and jewelry for folks who do Paranormal Investigation. Black tourmaline (schorl) is one of the most popular stones to use so it's high iron content makes sense. Learning about these stones gives me more tools to work with! 💥👻💥

Just a simple request... when showing each piece during the "closer look" towards the end of each video, would it be possible to put the name of each piece on the screen while the piece is showing? It's helpful to see the piece as well as the name of each piece together. Especiailly for those of us that are new and still learning. Thank you.

I found some old drill cores in Northern Ontario Canada here that had an abundance of peridot throughout the core sample. I got around a handful of nice stones from a piece 4 or 5 inches long. Apparently they only wanted diamonds or gold. Or they simply didn't know the potential value of their discovery.

I bought terp balls 6mm spheres. Named diamondium from futurama. I suspect they are a classic moissanite. Iron and nitrogen impurities make them change colours like a chameleon diamond. Boron nitrate possibly?

The bottom of my toilet tank lid is a history of minerals I have NOT known, but collected. LOL (streak testing is easier than blow pipe) Speaking of new discoveries (he shills) VR Resources found a NEW possible multiple pipe diamond field in Canada inbetween their several rare earth metals discoveries besides the gold, copper, molybdenum and silver in Nevada. Not Financial Advice, stock market tip and we know how those go. Richer people can afford to buy their choices in jewellery instead of leaving it in a bank.

What do you call a light green beryl? I have emeralds, heliodore, aquamarine and Morgan items. I have some beryl that is a pale green set beside morganite in a ring. What would you call it? It isn't dark enough to be emeralds and it is too green to be aquamarine.
@gems

If iron is the coloring impurity without vanadium or chromium, then it should be called "green beryl".

Both Robert and Rebecca took Gem-A's Foundation course, which covers a wide range of gemological topics. In addition, Rebecca completed Gem-A's Diploma course, and also received a Graduate Gemologist degree from GIA. In addition to this, there is a plethora of books and materials available online. We tried to give a brief overview in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hKqpqqp9ybjMpYE.html

So what are some of easiest and the best ways to identify a gemstone? A spectroscope?
@gems
@gems Жыл бұрын
A spectroscope is a very handy tool, but only certain gems have a diagnostic spectrum, whereas a polariscope will work on a broader range of stones, though will usually only tell you whether or not it is isotropic. Most gemologists we’ve spoken with emphasize the importance of close observation with a 10x loupe. That can really narrow down the possibilities of what you are looking at and help you determine which tests are the best next step.

yal want clout? I suggest a video EXCLUSIVELY about HTA. especially on reddit people go nuts hating on it. “It’s not citrine it’s not citrine it’s not citrine it’s burned baked toasted ew gross disgusting”. please lol apart from the important id lesson (hta=\=citrine=smokey quartz or something), i basically want you lovely experts to say your thoughts. I know for a fact most citrine in expensive jewelry ends up being either HTA or treated quartz just the same. no? these weird judgements towards different colors of quartz is so weird to me and I respect yals opinion so much💕

The colour of Emerald is caused by trace amounts of a chromophore such as trivalent chromium or trivalent vanadium. Source Mindat. Emeralds color isn't caused by iron, those would be considered just Green Beryl
@gems
@gems Жыл бұрын
You're correct, a beryl colored green solely by iron would not be considered an emerald, but a green beryl. However, emeralds often have traces of iron affecting their color along with the vanadium and/or chromium.

Why did they call it epidote in one moment and then called it peridot in the next?
@lisacrandall409
@lisacrandall409 Жыл бұрын
@@tammyphillips6299 I was confused at that moment, as well. But I think they just had two different stones in front of them (the small faceted peridot and the large epidote mineral specimen) and they kind of flicked quickly between the two when talking. I was wondering if the two stones are related in some way since the colour is so similar.
