Hey! This week is an unboxing of my new HOKA Clifton 9 running trainers 👟 I’ve needed a some new running shoes and have wanted to try out HOKA for a while! So here is my initial review and of course my first run in them 🏃🏻‍♀️ With my new little running buddy Storm! 🐶

Currently using Hoka Bondi 8s. Love em. Wide, stable, super comfy. Gonna try the Clifton 9s next. They felt like I was being propelled forward!

Good and well fitting running shoes are super important! I'm glad you found something that fits you this well. My favourites right now are Asics Gel-Nimbus 25 for my easy and long runs, no pain or aches with them. Love seeing your beautiful dog in the vlogs as well!

Nice, I've heard good things about the Clifton 9 so they should serve you well! I went on a mad buying binge a few years back and I wear mine for too many miles too so most of my trainers are now longer available. A few highlights have been... Nike Pegasus 35, Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit, Nike Infinity React v1, Adidas Boston 9, Adidas Adios 6 and for race day I've got some Nike Vaporfly Next% v2 (they feel so fast!!). Great to see so much of Storm in the video! 🐕

Oh I bet that was the best shopping haul ever 😅 I did look to see if I could repurchase a pair of trainers I had to start with but I couldn’t find them. I want to try them all anyway 😆 I’ve got a pair of Nike Alphafly trainers and they feel super fast too, I like to save them but I’m not sure what I’m saving them for lol 🤷🏻‍♀️ Storm will be around a lot more the next 6 months 🐶😀

I’m happy you found a good one, Lucy. I too have heard good things about the Cliftons. My sister is a Saucony girly, and my ride or die is the ASICS Gel Nimbus. I have the 22 now, and my new 25s will be here today in the mail. There’s nothing like a new trainer, right? I sniff my new ones too LOL 😂. Also, Storm is absolutely magnificently GORGEOUS!

I love that you both have your favourites 🙌🏼 I’ve not found ones that keep me loyal but I’m sure I’ll find my ride or die trainers at some point 🏃🏻‍♀️ Haha, yes! I always sniff them 😂 Aw, he is such a handsome boyyy 🐶❤️

The Clifton 9 is great shoe, am doing a marathon in mine soon. Great cushioning. Hoka shoes tend to fit narrow so I use a wide fit too.

I wear Brooks and have just upgraded from the Adrenaline 22’s to the 23’s. I just completed my first 10mile run in them today and I love them as they are so comfy.

I just bought Hoka sneakers for the first time for trails running (speed goat 5 wide). I haven't tried them yet, this is new to me. I have usually run on brooks since 2007. I hope they work for me like yours did for you. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Hokas.

I love Hoka's. I have the Bondi 8 for my street running and Hoka speedgoat 5 for trail. Both are in Wide. I have never been so comfortable in all the years in running shoes.

I’m glad you like your HOKA Clifton’s Lucy. They are extremely soft. The video was great so thank you for that. My favourite runners are the Saucony Speed 3’s. ❤Very comfortable. Not as soft as the HOKA’s.

Just found your channel in the last week and want to say I love it! Im 31 and have just started running in the last 3 months. Ive had 3 kids and have been doing strength training at home and walking on the treadmill for the last 2 yrs and really wanted to try and see if I could run as I never ever thought I could. Just took it at my own pace and never followed anything and now can run 5k semi okayish and even managed 10km one day (not sure ill do that again in a hurry 😅). I do most of my running out on the farm trails at home when the hubby is home to watch the kids and I run with my dog too so have just got myself the Hoka Challengers and I love them! Enjoy your new shoes ❤

@@lucyshawvlogs yeah its not too bad here as they are maintained but I love the isolation of it when starting out. I find the single lane roads here too busy with Trucks etc being from New Zealand so I prefer the cows watching me instead 🤣

I got my first pair of real shoes about a month ago, Brooks Ghost 15. Boy have I loved them! Didn't realize what a difference a good shoe would make.

I.was so happy when i bought New trainers ( confirmation bias), that i ran faster ( placebo effect). But that's part of the pleisure!

The running store I go to had me try the Hoka Arahi and the Asics Gel Kayano. I went with the Asics because they fit my heel better, which feels like a weird thing to say but the Hokas were actually jabbing me in the heel. The Asics are so comfy and stable feeling. I'm sold on them.

Fab video with Storm :) I love my Puma deviate 2 nitro which have a carbon plate, but realised quite quickly with an Achilles injury, they weren’t the best for run/ walks, so I’m saving them for when I can run properly. The ones I have instead are the New Balance 1080v12’s which I love! ❤ I love the style of Hoka. All their shoes look so beautiful! Love the colour of these :)

I started running about 10 montha ago and just got my second pair of proper running shoes after turning the first pair into mush. I went with the Saucony Tempus this time, and they feel amazing. If only Saucony had the wide size color choices like Hoka does....

My first pair I got were the brooks Ghost 14 (on the recommendation of the guy in my local running shop) and they actually hurt my knees. I’ve got the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 but I’m in love with the Asics Novablast 3. They are so soft and bouncy. The sole does let it down a bit but I just use my Puma for wet weather and trails. Considering the Adidas Boston 12 next. Everyone is raving about them.

I got a pair of Brooks Ghost 15 as my first pair of real shoes a month ago. I absolutely love them! No pain at all for me, actually reduces some issues I was starting to develop. But every foot and every body is different.

GOOD GIRLE!! Well done figuring out your own feet's needs. No offense to anyone else's advise. I tried Hoka's once and they felt so great the first 2 weeks, then my lower back started hurting a bit with them on. I personally really like my ASICS gel-cumulus. I always have to get a W except in this brand-they make theirs wider, already. Hope Storm has had a good rest. I'm sure by now he has. Sweet pup. 💜

I love my Hoka Bondi for long runs. Such a lovely fit. And like running on clouds. I had a fitting yesterday for new daily runners. So will be doing the same as you and testing them out today. ASICS GT 2000. L🎉🎉very exciting.

Meant to say that I have used Mizuno wave rider for years but they don’t really go wide enough. So I’m looking forward to trying these new ones out. The Hoka ones made me realise that the mizuno, although a wide fitting, are not wide enough. Love the colours too. I hate black! Love the colour of yours. My new ones are similar but with bright pink😜

I hope the test of your new ones goes well! 🏃🏻‍♀️🙌🏼 Love a new trainer run 😆 I always like to go for the colourful option. Matt said to me once “The brighter the trainers the faster the run” and it’s always stuck with me 😂 Bright pink sounds lush ❤️

My thighs are killing me after running the Ealing half marathon yesterday, (got to be the hilliest place in London, but I vow to keep training for the London marathon. Loved it when one of the marshals at the race said “you’re cooking on gas as I ran past him”. Hills and me don’t get on, but what goes up must come down. I’m an ASICS queen, because I need support for my high arches.

Congrats! I'm running my first 5k in less than 2 weeks. Only been running 2.5 months but I've caught the bug. Maybe someday a half marathon for me too. Good luck on your trail to the marathon!

My ride or die is the Hoka Gaviota. It took me about 80ks for mine to break in. They are like running on clouds.

ASICS Kayano for forever and only changed to the Asics Kensi just recently as the kayano has changed slightly to looking a little ugly. I’m really wanting to try the HOKA and certainly will now!!

I’d be so annoyed if I had a favourite pair and they started changing them 😅 I held off trying HOKA for so long but I’m very happy that I decided to try them now 🙌🏼

Brooks all the way for me. Glycerine for long easy runs and the Ghosts for shorter quicker runs.

i tried hoka shoes on and they were tight on the sides. im currently in altra's i've also had good luck with asics.

I haven't bought running shoes in over ten years. I just got a pair of Altra Torins a couple weeks ago and I love them! Do you rotate shoes or do you mainly just have one pair that you wear all the time?

Oh awesome 😀🙌🏼 My other trainers are Altra and I have loved running in them. I have a few pairs that I use for different types of runs 🏃🏻‍♀️

Your speed has improved, right? Is it the hills, the gym or the new trainers? 😅 Also, Storm is adorable. I would love a paw print on my new trainers by a doggo as handsome as him. Do pass on my compliment to him. ❤😏

I have noticed my speed has improved but only on the smooth paths lol. It’s still not improving on the uneven trails 🙈 I think it’s got to be the hills paying off! 🙌🏼 Aw 🐶 He is asleep as I am typing this so I’ll let him know when he wakes up 😅❤️

Hi Lucy. i know you use Tailwind for your long runs..but i wondered what gels you use..im doing my first marathon in 2.5 weeks and im worrying about fueling a bit !!!

Hey. Since finding tailwind I’ve not used gels 😆 But the ones I liked were the orange flavoured ones from a brand called High5. The brand SiS was also good. I’m sure you will do amazing! I’m rooting for you!! 🏃🏻‍♀️🙌🏼

@@lucyshawvlogs funny story, I had done much of my training for a 20 mile race using ultra timp 5s. 1 week before the race, I had a huge blowout in the side of both shoes! I went to REI and was able to have them replaced. I went with the Hoka speed goat 5s and had zero problems, no blisters, no pains. I was so scared to do the race in brand new shoes but they were great. I also wore them for my first 50k trail run with no problems. I loved ultras, but I ran through two pair in a matter of months. The quality seems to have suffered somewhere.

Do you wash your trainers? If so, how do you do it? Washing machine? Hand wash?

Don’t use the washing machine as the heat can melt some of the glue that holds the shoes together. I use baby wipes on my trainers. Let the mud dry, brush the excess off with a clean shoe brush and then wipe the trainers down with the baby wipes.

@davenapier does the exact same as me. I would never consider putting them in the washing machine. I’ll always let the mud dry before brushing it away and then the most I do is wipe marks with a baby wipe or wet cloth 😀
