One Tolkien-site reviewer wrote at the time: It is a bit peculiar from a story standpoint. The presence of the Army of the Dead on the fields of Pelennor is a movie element - GW’s license is based on the movies - and even at that, they do not arrive until Théoden has departed the field, so it is a peculiar choice. I conjecture that it was an artistic and game decision. Adding their existing Knights of Dol Amroth figures would have been superfluous given the Riders of Rohan; and a bunch of Gondor regulars would perhaps have been a bit bland.

Rohan was always primarily plastic. Only a few character models were metal, most of which are now finecast afaik. But, welcome to the game, and enjoy the Rohirrim! They are an excellent army.

It's greatly implied in The Two Towers (book) that the Uruk-Hai are result of Orcs and humans bumping uglies. Some of them are even refereed to as Goblin-Men.

Film Monk Productions they increased the price from 25 dollars to 40 but they doubled the models. And they lowered he prices of all the cavalry to $32

In 2002 a standard 24 mini pack was $20. Today it's $50. 150% increase in 16 years. Canadian prices.

They are true-scale rather than typical Heroics. The newer plastics (of which in this box Theoden is) have slightly larger features though as they're not from the old sculptors. Generally, LOTR models don't go well with traditional Heroic 28mm war-game miniatures. Think of it like a FW Death Korps of Krieg alongside a Cadian.

They just brought it back to what it was before the cut the models. It always used to be 20/24 models in a box.

@@ratelmike8825 the only new model in this kit is theoden, every other model is a repackage of a plastic kit that you can buy seperately, its just really good value if you want two starting forces and want to recreate this specific battle.

Ratel Mike For Rohan I would start with Eomer, Eowyn and Erkenbrand, that gives you a decent number of powerful heroes to play with. They need some warriors to lead so I would also get 12 more riders, a banner bearer, a box of warriors on foot and some royal guard, foot and mounted. After that you can go wild with Gamling, outriders, Sons of Eorl and what ever else strikes your fancy. For the evil side, get a Witch-King on foot as you’ll need one to play the Witch-King in points match games, then get some extra Morannon orc captains (if you’re willing to wait there is a new blister coming from Forge World that has 2 named captains in it). After that you can do what you like with more named heroes such as the mouth of Sauron, or other Nazgul, as well as some elite troops such as the Black Numenoreans or some Black Guards of Barad-Dur. Or if you’re really feeling wild you could get the big man himself.

In the case of space Marines, they come with options during assembly as opposed to the games you mentioned with single mold where they come one way. Also depends on the material used and casting/molding process for the materials. Companies that use the same plastic as gw (warlord, battlefront, fireforge etc..) put them out on sprues because it's easiest for that material, and most of the time lots of bits and options. Imperial assault comes single pose because it's a boardgame and the minis are PVC, and it's what you see is what you get. Fallout ww uses PVC in it's starter but uses resin on "sprues" for everything else. FFG's runewars and legion come in pieces . Dust also has options for unassembled kits, their primed kits they've just done assembly for you. I can get a box of 40 Russians on sprue with extra bits for bolt action for 30-40 usd, a box of fireforge 12 foot knights for 30 or 48 men at arm's for 40-50 usd for the hoth expansion example you used which is 40-50 USD. It's down to the type of game, material used, and intended audience.

Rohirrim actually only refers to the mounted warriors of Rohan. It's not a catch all term for any citizen of Rohan.

Hi, You were lucky then. In Aus not only did we get a price creep for the box but along the way the number of models in the box was halved. So a double hit. Who can remember getting a box of 24 warriors for $27 dollars. I know of so many Aus who import GW stuff from US or UK as it was cheaper than getting it locally. ps the original box game was only $85,, those were the days....

Hi, FYI the new box set in Aus is $250 AUD. Just checked GW Canada and its $180 CAD. your dollar is not that much better than the AUD.. so just GW ripping off the folks downunder. It may just have been an Aus thing but GW certainly did not do itself any favors with its pricing back when the game was just kidding off all those years ago.
