I've bought vintage guitars in the past and I bought the ones that were in the BEST condition for their age. Not only that but the better the condition, the more they are worth. I just don't get the relic thing at all. It's like when punks started buying pre ripped jeans from trendy clothes stores instead of just wearing them out. it totally missed the point. People don't assume you've been playing for years because your guitar is all beat up, they go by how well you play. But People really do like them, so I guess relic guitars are here to stay.

Well I have 2 reliced custom shops a Strat and a Tele, absolutely love them and they just feel right. I also have a pristine PRS and it just doesn't seem to have the vibe of the Fenders and I'm terrified of scratching it

@WilliamHall-lf9ee it's definitely a part of it, but for me, I really like the worn in comfortable old shoes element of them, plus I think that they look really cool. And before anyone says put your own wear on, I'm 60, so I simply don't have the years left for that

Because a lot of people think Fender knows what they're doing. They're winging it. They have so called master builders. Would a real master builder destroy a guitar on purpose.

They are not Master Builders. They have CNC machines that make all the bodies and necks. All they do is screw them together. There are some Master Builders on KZfaq that start from scratch. Some even start from a tree. The custom shop guitars have gone up to 5000. If you gave me $5,000 to build a Telecaster I could not spend all the money even if I bought premium parts and true Gold Hardware.

I mean, a guitar that beaten up would absolutely have had new pickups and guard at some point. The OG plastics were brittle. As for relics as a concept. It's just a preference, people need to chill out.

Really love the texas tea thinline tele. And it’s still in stock! Can’t really justify paying brand new custom shop prices though. Hopefully I’ll find a used one down the road at a more “reasonable” price.

Fender has some different colors out like Pacific Peach,real nice,but quite a few bashed up looking ones,right up there with the 3 bolt micro-tilt neck era,which passed quickly

I have no issue with relics but are the majority of these Custom Shops being made Teles and Strats? Fender has so many iconic guitar models to explore in this range.

When people buy their guitar with the "I have been played a bunch" costume on, they are definitely the ones who are concerned with appearances. Both guitars share excellent quality. But the one that doesn't pretend to be old is the honest, authentic one.

@@sagittatedno point in arguing who can hear what, everyone perceives the tones differently To me less paint on a guitar resonates differently and in a way I prefer but some people may not be able to tell the difference Also if it looks and feels broken in it’s gunna inspire you differently Nothing about pretending it’s different because it is different enough to achieve different things

I love how those who have never player a heavy relic’d guitar bag them i have many pristine fender custom shop guitars and i have 1 relic’d and 1 heavy relic’d and i have to say to all the ney sayers you have no idea what you are missing out on so much to say i play my 58 heavy relic’d tele more than any other of my guitars because it just plays better and i don’t worry about putting a scratch on it but if pristine is what you are looking for go buy one and be happy but to those who appreciate the art of making a guitar look old be happy with that but lets stop ragging on either because at the end of the day we all love one thing the sound of the guitar. Lee here….. I’m soooooo bored of the relentless relic bashing in the comments section. Relics have been around for 20 years!! Please stop moaning about a subjective aesthetic!! If you don’t like them thats 100% fine, just go watch the next video and/or buy something else…. but STOP MOANING!! Here’s a novel idea… if you want to see more non relic custom shop Strats in your guitar store, then buy a non relic one. Then 12 months later buy another. And 12 months after that buy another…. Because that’s what relic customers do, and that’s why we keep ordering more. 😂👍

And I get sooo bored of youtubers customer bashing, your customers have been buying from you for years and kept you in business, and a lot of us watch your channel and buy from you. @andertons...BANG ON Lee! To those folks who like to "Trauma Bond" over relics please...give it a rest. If it's not for you, then cool. Keep it moving. Why be upset about something for simply existing??? No one is forcing anyone one to buy it. And to those who feel the need to moan on about, I think the reason why it's so "triggering" (forgive the overused word) is that some perceive it (somewhat subconsciously) as a harbinger of future price increases within the low to mid tier offerings. Lee...you are sooo right, and I hope you keep this comment up. We have to stop all this negativity and just enjoy the wide variety of guitar options, for every guitarist out there.

It's "Taos Turquoise" (pronounced TOUS) as in Taos New Mexico, famous for its American Indian turquoise jewelry.

OK so as a newbie player looking here at guitars well above my pay grade, I have to say, I generally am against this relicing lark. But the super-heavy relic black strat looks gorgeous. I would put down £6k to play House of the Rising Sun and practice my scales on that!

Love the flow and production of this video but hate the relic look. Just silly. Petes playing was great but imagine how much better it might have been if all that tone paint hadn’t been hacked off at the Fender Custom Shop. I suppose we’ll never know.

I'm sorry to all those who like the relic guitars. I understand it gives the guitar some sort of "mojo", but I'm not paying thousands of dollars for a custom shop guitar to get something beat up. I can do that fine on my own thank you very much.

If you want to do it the natural way and wait twenty-thirty years with lots of gigs and touring to acchieve this mojo, be my guest… Or if you’re a real purist you could also just sell your house to buy a real vintage Strat from the 1960’s… But for someone like me who absolutely LOVE the looks, feel and mojo of these heavy relic’ed guitars, it is amazing to purchase something that looks old, used and worn in - but everything is still brand new, works perfectly and you don’t have to worry about weak pickups, bad electronics, loose tuning pegs, crooked necks, unoriginal parts, sprayovers, etc… For me it is the perfect sollution! So luckily there is something out there for everybody🙌🏻

Fender Custom shop guitars were usually still, though expensive, obtaintable. If I'd wanted i could have moved a few guitars on and been able to pick up a custom shop. At over £5k now, that's no longer the case. Holy hell.

Which is why I'm glad I grabbed the relic'd purple strat Andertons had made, it's a production model, but blindfold someone and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
