DCC Sound is awesome! I currently have five with sound (four I bought with sound already installed and one I installed myself), and I still have 7 more diesels to convert. Now I am spoiled and want all my engines equipped with sound. Right now two are steam and three are diesel; all N gauge American locomotives. I love the British Class 37 and would want one with sound. Looks like it would be @ £300 if installed by a professional. There is milling involved, and I want to avoid installations that require that, but its about £100 cheaper if I can do it myself. Would love to see you do a video installing and programming a sound decoder! Hopefully Bachmann and Dapol will start offering more locomotives with DCC Sound installed! To me it is worth the extra cost. Or, maybe they will consider sound when they design future locomotives and build in room for a speaker that can be added later, and thus making it easier for us to do our own conversions without having to mill the frame or modify the shell.

Hi Simon, nice review. DCC with sound makes train running more realistic. I have 2 locomotives from Broadway limited, factory fitted sound, and 2 cattle stock cars with sound, they are fun, I put them among the standard cars. The sounds are great best i have heard on any N Gauge item, could be a start of a whole new range of ready to run sound locos, I have been watching this with my no sound 2 108's and 101 running, thinking what could be and shaking my head. many thanks for posting cheers Aidy

Have you noticed any flickering from the lights in the trailing car? I've got 2 GF 108's (re-tooled) and both of them have trouble with the lights and i've seen them at exhibitions and in videos doing the same thing. I think it's due to there not being enough weight in that car so the brass connectors don't make contact all the time. Just wondering if they've fixed it in the later models. For that price i'd be very disappointed if they haven't.

Hi Simon. Would I be right in thinking that first radius curves in n gauge are 9 inches?

I have this exact same loco but in BR green. it's beautiful, but no sound. :( I find those buffer details impossible to fit, everything so tiny.
