Fantastic video man! I actually never realised how the Island map's aesthetic doesn't quite match up with the single player setting but I think you're absolutely on point. I do find it funny how the dialogue in the cutscene audio you found actually sounds like an Amy Hennig Uncharted script, if that makes sense. I don't know how to describe it, but I do feel like the different and mature direction they ultimately took with U4 was probably for the better. Still, it's super cool to see what would've been. There was an interview I saw with the voice actor of Sully, and he confirmed that Amy was replaced. He didn't say what the reason was, but he did mention that him and the rest of the cast was upset about it.

Great video! Had never heard about this. There was something I couldn't place about the multiplayer map when I loaded into the multiplayer for the first time, great observation, I think you're absolutely right about that. The Javanese aspect is interesting to me too because it'd probably change Libertalia's location (I think) and, in what is admittedly a huge stretch, potentially tie back to Uncharted 2 in some way (there being a connection by way of Borneo). Really fascinating to hear the lost cutscene too, I think you can tell it's decidedly Hennig just because Nate and Sully's dynamic is so different from the current game, and I don't think the content of their dialogue would fit in anywhere in Uncharted 4 as we have it. Really hope Hennig gets to come out with the 'truth' at some point, was hoping they'd get there eventually with Retro Replay.

The whole "mystery of the original Uncharted 4" feels like an Uncharted game in itself. Trying to piece together the pieces of what could've been but instead was just left to be forever "lost". Amy Hennig's story sounds so different yet still vaguely similar to what we got. It just makes me wish we got to see more. 9:55 This part went hard. Imagination is no joke. The ideal of expectations is so nerve sweating because it makes the possibility of disappointment that more painful. You want a character to have a good wrap up to their character arc? Nope. You want a character you don't like to not appear? Well guess what? They end up taking up a good chunk of runtime while everyone else you do care about is pushed to the side. Fun gameplay? Weeeeell... (Note: This is not directly to the Uncharted series, this is just media in general) In the end, it all comes down to the developers and writers to craft these stories. And us, the audience, to stand by and wait to see if the final product pays off in the end.

As a fellow Uncharted fan also still working on content for a finished series (compiling the ARG and writing a book on Drake's Fortune development). It's awesome to see others are still active as well. Keep up the good fight Kempy!

Kinda of insane that the multiplayer map could've been made from leftover bits of the rain forest level. I also wonder if any of those concept arts or assets got used in Lost Legacy

This makes sense. I actually really like the aesthetic they were going for here. it reminds me a lot of the asian thematic of the 2nd game, which is a lot more exotic than just "pirate themed" stuff. What's interesting is that it still makes sense within the story, since it's about a bunch of pirates from different cultures coming together to build an utopia, so they could grab pieces from a lot of different places, including a bit of the more exotic asian themed stuff like we see in this video, makes sense that this would be something Amy Hennig would want given the other games style. It's a shame we lost some of this art direction in the final game, but like you said, who knows what it would be like, no one can ever really know for sure. Great detective work

I recently watched a video about the original game, the one written by Amy Hennig and there would be no Nadine in her game, Sam and Rafe were going to be the villains with the plot twist being the revelation of Sam being Nate's brother. The original Rafe and Sam were played by Alan Tudyk and Todd Stashwick. They even commented the Auction House part of the game was already in Amy Hennig's Uncharted 4, there was going to be a quick time event with Nate and Elena dancing through the balllroom to get closer to Avery's cross and there would be multiple characters you would be able to switch to during the Auction House chapter while looking for clues to get the cross. For what I saw in that video, Sully and Elena were meant to have bigger roles in the story and Elena would be part of the action from the start, she wouldn't be trying to keep Nate away from adventuring.

Finished the game for what I think, is the 6th time. It’s still a great game but my mind always immediately wonders back to what it could have been, which lead me to your amazing find. From their perspective, maybe they scrapped the Javanese content because it’s honestly giving me Uncharted 2 vibes (and I don’t mean that in a bad way). But who knows what else they scrapped or intended. As you said, this is a dangerous thought as it opens cans of mental worms to something we can’t change. I know I’ll be thinking on this for a while …

Wow man! Thank you so much for finding this! I've been a massive fan of this franchise since playing Drake's Fortune as a kid the Christmas it launched. I'll continue to be upset that Amy never got to finish out her ideas. Not to mention the fact that Greg Edmonson didn't come back for Uncharted 4's soundtrack. In fact I actually listened to the soundtrack of a movie called "Bounty Killer" that Edmonson did back around 2011 and it sounds a lot like what a fourth game could have sounded like.

7:04 I always had a theory since the MP Beta in 2015 that the Island multiplayer map was made with remnants of Amy Hennig’s Uncharted 4 because the ruins don’t match with anything from anywhere else in the game. This audio now makes me wonder what the backstory of the island from the single player was. In the final game, Libertalia collapsed because the pirate founders stole from the citizens, causing a rebellion. Now we have reason to believe that this wasn’t originally the backstory and that the Javanese knew about this hidden island before Avery did. I also had a theory many years ago that Nadine wasn’t originally going to exist. The reason I thought of that was because of Neil talking about going over character designs for her in PSX 2015 but I didn’t have solid evidence. But many years later Amy Hennig did state that when she was working on the game, there was no Nadine.

And now I'm depressed again about this game again.

Dude, i just watched this video randomly and skipped to the middle to see what its about at first, and the voice lines FELT LIKE IT WAS DRAKE hahahaha, Some lines genuinely fooled me into thinking it was actually drake, i cant believe it, it was only when i rewinded and started the vid from the beginning did i hear you say "excuse my terrible voice acting". She said to rolling Stone she would never leave a project in the middle and Richard McGonagle there were machinations agains her in teh sutdio. Did you see his interview to Dan Allen?

It would have so much better if they kept the temple/java level, the artworks looked beautiful and also the original script Such a shame that amy left Cuckmann should have never touched Uncharted or Naughty Dog I wish we will find more and more about the original game and maybe that amy will talk openly about it, maybe leading to a new director cut version of the game

I still think Amy Hennig left because of a "creative disagreements" of how the story was gonna be. I find it weird how many ppl left once the switch to Neil and Bruce happened. There's other reports from ppl like Alan Tudyk of why he left as well as Nolan North saying they scrapped a whopping 8 months of work on it. I believe Neil wanted to end Uncharted, because originally 4 wasn't supposed to be the end. TLOU is ND's "bigger" franchise so that's why I believe this happened. Also Bruce left right after Uncharted 4 was completed as well, though he was the co-creator of The Last of Us. Funny how Bruce's name was also missing in the Last of Us HBO show's credits as well even though he was a co-creator. I just felt like the whole situation got swept under the rug overall, since there was definitely problems if that many ppl left during the new direction of Uncharted 4. But i hope we really see some more Uncharted soon, whether it be a new entry or complete reboot.
