CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Uncle Buck (John Candy) has a meeting with Maizy's (Gaby Hoffman) Assistant Principal, Mrs. Hogarth (Suzanna Shepherd) and her mole.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this cheerful, lightweight comedy, excruciatingly clumsy, disorganized, and messy Uncle Buck Russell (John Candy) becomes the screens most unlikely babysitter since Clifton Webb in Sitting Pretty. While their parents are away, eight-year old Miles (Macaulay Culkin), six-year old Maizy (Gaby Hoffman) and their teen-aged sister, Tia (Jean Kelly) are left in the care of Buck. Surprisingly, the very inept Uncle Buck entertains the younger children who come to love him and earns the respect of Tia when he rescues her from her worthless boyfriend. However, in doing so, Buck nearly loses his long-time girlfriend Chanice (Amy Madigan). John Candy is delightful in the leading role giving a touching and notable comic performance. Directed by John Hughes in his typical broad style, this youth-oriented comedy is perhaps the best role of John Candy's regrettably brief career.
CREDITS:
TM & © Universal (1989)
Cast: John Candy, Ron Payne, Gaby Hoffmann, Suzanne Shepherd
Director: John Hughes
Producers: Bill Brown, John Hughes, Ramey E. Ward, Tom Jacobson
Screenwriter: John Hughes

c laird I first saw this film as a kid on TV but on the TV version I saw, "Goddamn", was taken out, which makes it less funnier IMHO. She simply says " He can't get the washing machine to work." And the teacher saying “blasphemy!” afterwards doesn’t make as much sense either. Didn't find the original uncut version until later when I saw the film on DVD By the way, how to they do that on edits? How do they take the word out, but still keep the sentence coherent without a mute?

My first journeyman in the pipetrades was a man from scotland. he told me of what happened after he got his journeyman ticket. He went back home to scotland and was walking down the street, when he came came upon an old school teacher of his. He walked up to that teacher and punched him in the face so hard that the man fell to the ground. I love that tale. It reinforces the notion that they are all good kids. PS his name was also John.

Going to School in Scotland early 70's this scene resonates with me. There were a lot of 'Teachers' that were power tripping on their control of children and were only there for a paycheck. The Teachers that loved their job were passionate about it and that, in turn, got you interested in their subject. However, they were few and far between. There were a lot that abused the corporal punishment that was allowed at that time. In some way, i wished i'd ran into those 'Teachers' when i was a full grown man.

Years ago, no make that DECADES ago, a teacher on cafeteria duty wanted quiet in the cafeteria and had gone on a bit of a tirade, so I was smiling in a nervous little way. This teacher pointed at me and yelled "Wipe that smile off your face, Blondie!" Believe me, that has never left my memory, I was the type who'd get tearful over the least criticism, but somehow that teacher's demand never got to me, it was so over-the-top in how tough it was and how odd for her to single me out ( I was like a little mouse ). To this day I still have to laugh at the memory. I'm 63 yrs old, never been a tough girl in my entire life, thought it was riot that she referred to me as "Blondie" like I was some gun moll or gangster ( this happened in 1963).

I've been in some tough spots and kept a good outlook until my son was shot and died within moments of the bullet which hit his throat. I've been able to keep a sense of humor, but that was too tragic to gain strength again. I can look back on many situations and laugh, but I'm fading away. I should have written my "memoirs" when I still had strength. Thank you, you brightened my day.

I didn't have to be in the next room when I got to watch my mom do it. She went off on the VP in my elementary school. A kid with a temper problem punched me in the face with almost no provocation whatsoever, me literally having a black eye forming this woman had the audacity to tell my mother she didn't believe my story and they weren't going to do anything to the kid about it. That did not invoke a good reaction from my mother. Not only did she tell the VP off, she had the kid arrested. Thats not so much of a big deal post-Columbine, but this was the early 90s, having a 9 year old arrested was pretty unheard of especially because it was a school in a upper-middle class area, but the school basically forced my mother's hand, it was the only way they were going to take it seriously.
