With the boiled eggs, uncle Roger says you gotta peel them in water. Then he says he is "waterboarding" the egg. Which is a torture technique that uses water. He then says "oh he cracked" which in the analogy of waterboarding would be the person being waterboarded finally said what they wanted.

It’s cringe. It’s like a child being like ‘ewwww’ and overreacting at someone saying anything that’s biologically normal. Lacks maturity. So sick of women like that who think it’s attractive to tone police anything sexual to act ‘demure’, you’re a grown woman, it’s not like you’ve never heard or done anything before, stop acting like a child who has never had the birds and the bees talk.

Water boarding was a torture technique used by the CIA back in the day when it was legal. Now they have banned the use of torture in the USA. That was the joke he was referring to with the egg.

The water boarding joke, “He cracked,” is a pun. When you interrogate or torture a prisoner they “crack” when they give up the information. Water boarding is a form of torture. Hence the egg “cracked”. Very punny.

To be fair those kinds of pots are common everywhere now, its not something limited to certain countries for import since making them locally has been easier to do and its cheaper for the economy, I don't know about quality but I don't think anyone would notice considering it does the same job as the sauce pans you'd get from other countries, I mean its literally just metal, and Im sure any country capable of forging and smithing could make it, its not really an exclusive item, you could even buy japanese tamagoyaki pans almost everywhere, the only thing that would make a pan exclusive would be if it was made by some mystical technique or metal like it was a katana made from ouroshikage steel which they aren't they are either just made from copper or steel and an expert or amateur smith or foundry could just imitate the techniques easily or create machines to do it for mass production

New subscriber! Happy to support the channel and see you both grow, let’s go for that KZfaq Play Button. So when my brothers and I were younger, we couldn’t really cook much. However, we would compete to see who could make the best ramen noodles from just the Marichan ramen package and whatever we had in the house. Flash forward to now, we did the same sort of contest but we are adults now and could actually make the real deal. I was surprised how much went into making authentic ramen until that contest and even though I lost, it was fun to learn to make something new. To those who haven’t tried yet, go ahead and try to make that Ramen or Eggfried Rice. Even if you mess up the first time, you can only get better.

I’m pretty sure the broth was boiled far more than an hour. Uncle Roger dropped the aromatics in then he said to boil an hour. That is pretty standard. I’ve made a broth just below boiling for 12 hours only put the aromatics in for the last 2 hours. You can over do the aromatics. It takes me the weekend to make ramen and toppings. I really have no choice as where I live there are no good ramen shops. You can also buy pots that size very easily for home cooks in the US. I have one that is a tad smaller and I’ve seen saucing pans even smaller than mine (made to melt butter).

Ooooh, have gotten some ramen kits a few months back. It got packets of tare, broth base, noodles (not the dried one), a bit of oil, and some mushroom, nori sheets, and a slice of chashu. So nice. Needed a bit of adjustment on the broth reconstitution but ish good :D So yep, ramen may come as a meal kit (or at least I think it is - me no ramen expert).

Meal kit ramen? This is essentially what you made in your ramen video, getting certain ingredients from a famous ramen shop & making your own toppings. Remember that Uncle Roger analyzes ramen into 5 components: aroma oil, tare, broth, noodles, and toppings. The broth indeed took many hours. What he’s working on for the 1 hour thing is the tare. By the way, for those who don’t know what they’re talking about with alternate pronunciations is regarding the Chinese characters. For those who want to know more, the two kinds of pronunciations are usually called “readings” and the two are “On” & “kun.” The slurping of noodles in Japanese society has a practical purpose, specifically convection cooling. In general Japanese prefer hotter liquids than other cultures so it makes sense that it is acceptable in Japan but not the rest of the world.

13:46 So the guy says "don't eat when/whilst cooking" And calls it bad habit. That's awful advice, I hate to be negative, but that is the worst advice you can give to someone when cooking. Any chef would tell you to taste whilst cooking, Gordon Ramsay yells at his chefs if they don't taste the stuff they are making. Always taste the food your cooking. Tasting during cooking is important because then you can tell if what you're making is turning out good or bad, if you need to fix something or not. So in the words of Gordon Ramsay. Taste! Taste! Taste!
@sirris4330
@sirris4330 2 жыл бұрын
While tasting is technically eating so I can understand the confusion. I feel like that’s not what he meant at all. I believe he means don’t eat something else that you are not actively cooking while cooking. You should give people more credit. It would be an insane thing to say never taste the food you are cooking 🤔

Waterboarding, or "water torture," is a brutal practice whereby an interrogator straps a prisoner to a board, places a wet rag in his mouth, and by pouring water through the rag induces controlled drowning. So when Uncle Roger said the egg "cracked", it's a pun meaning that the egg literally cracked it's shell and also "cracked" as in giving up information to the interrogator (Uncle Roger).

I've got a question for you guys I've been doing char Siu for years surprising that Japanese have similar item and somewhat pronunciation but in that recipe they marinated the pork belly in a mixture of soy sauce, salt, water but the Chinese is soy sauce and a sweetener as honey or maltose (and various spices) but is it traditionally braised vs roasted in Japan? If roasted is it similar to chinese way for sandwiches or to put on rice or it a bun?
