In this video, I'll guide you step-by-step through a unique process, combining different mediums to achieve a dreamlike quality in your artwork. You'll learn how to seamlessly integrate soft pastels with other materials to create pieces that not only captivate but also evoke a sense of freedom and fluidity in your artistic expression.

🎨 Matertials We'll Use: Keep in mind these products can be substituted with various other media. Use what you have and have fun!
Colourfix Pastel Paper: Known for its tooth and durability, perfect for layering, I chose this surface because it is water-friendly and readily accepts an array of liquid media. I used a 9" x 12" sheet of a blue gray color.

Charcoal Pencils: I used a charcoal pencil to get an initial sketch and you will find a downloadable image of my sketch attached to this post.

Tombo Markers: I sketched with medium value tombow marker on top of the charcoal sketch and then used a kneaded eraser to remove the charcoal pencil. This was to create a sketch that would not run or bleed when I added wet media.

Acrylic Ink: I used the color Purple Lake made by Daler Rowny to get a loose and energetic outline as well as adding large directional strokes for the mane and hair.

Brushes: A fine tip brush was used for the outlines in acrylic ink and a larger brush for the loose and bold strokes.
Turner Acryl Gouache: I used this gouache product to add more color and expressive marks. You could substitute this medium with various other mediums.

gorgeous -- I also loved it at the ink stage!!! As far as the paint thickness, I've heard a lot of painters talk about the "cream" consistency -- as in, heavy cream.

Hi Cheryl, thanks so much for your comment sweetheart. I did a bit of a transfer from the original image to get a general sketch in first. It’s a technique I use that I’ll have to share some time. It’s a pretty easy way to transfer an image. 👍🏻☺️☺️

Can I use oil pastels with your lessons? Are there any techniques or rules that I should avoid, or use a different technique instead? They're some of the best lessons that I can find and I like your work the most. Just really great stuff here!

Thank you so much! I believe I got the stencil at one of the craft shops like Michael’s or Joannes. But it’s been quite a few years. I’m sure you could find similar organic stencils on Amazon.

Greetings - The interpretation of the new pastel palette advocated by Ascended Master of Art and Music Paolo Veronese in this Aquarian Age seems to be to go lightly on the hues and heavy on the white with everything, without flinging every colour in the paintbox at the canvas. Restriction would be the way to go. Limit the palette to a few select tints and achieve amazing results. Less is more. Happy painting.

You do realize that everything you just typed in your "word salad" comment is merely your personal opinion, right? "Restrictions" might be YOUR way to go. A white house with white interior walls and white leather furniture with gray flooring and cabinets might be YOUR preference. Fortunately, most of us love a colorful world where people acknowledge that everyone gets to forge their own unique, artistic path.

You're like a three year old who would argue with Picasso, Chagall, van Gogh, Matisse, O'Keefe, and Monet, telling them that they're painting all wrong.

I am confused. You said you loved the pens because you can use wet media on it and t doesn’t bleed, yet the moment you touched it with water and acrylic ink it bleed like you were a phlebotomist, lol.
