Well, there is a white multi-faced polygon in the magic 8 ball with raised letters on each face in a plastic container filled with liquid. When you shake the ball, it will cause the polygon to move its faces. The raised letters will press against a clear plastic cover and your fortune will be predicted.

At first I was annoyed that the initial conclusion is that the 8ball was designed after a crystal ball, but now that I think of it, an 8ball really could be used as a scrying tool, especially if it's shiny. But it sucks that people take spiritualism and try to make it into something it's not in order to make some easy money.

Ugh. You aren't suppose to shake it! Just turn it upside down, ask your question, turn it right side up to look. Shaking it causes bubbles to gather under the plastic in the liquid, making it hard to read.
