Welcome to Black Opal Direct!
The thick color bar, Flagstone pattern, and vibrant hues make me think this might be a good one but, as we know, opal is never that predictable!
Can I cut a gem opal from this color?! There's only one way to find out!

It's all about marketing. Diamonds aren't rare, they aren't particularly beautiful but DeBeers spend many millions on marketing and controlling the available global stock. Opals are just fascinating. I don't want a company like DeBeers to take them over and make them inaccessible to normal people.

I am in complete agreement but as is abundantly apparent by the Kardashians and countless other trashgic individuals who have more dollars than sense, there is no accounting for taste. Except where opals are concerned.

Beautiful Stone Justin. I personally enjoy the videos where you talk us through your thought process as you are in the midst of your work. Hearing why you choose this side for facing, etc. is great way for us to learn. The videos with the time lapse and music are great in their own right but hearing your thought process is very beneficial. Thanks for doing what you do, its appreciated

Awesome :) Little quick story from me. We just got a new pup. A large German Shepard. And I have tumbler rocks. Just creek bed crystals I toss in the tumbler to see what I get. Anyways I kept finding the rocks around the house and was thinking the kids were playing with them which they like to do. Then they showed up in the dogs water bucket. Finally I hear rocks moving around and i sneak to see who it is. Its the puppy grabbing one at a time and hiding them around the house. Lol I have a real rock hound 😆 super happy he dosent eat them. Still funny tho. Maybe ill catch it on video one of these times :)

Saw your videos on the rainbow serpent gem. W O W. I have never seen an opal like that before. Very unique. I learned about lightning ridge opals from watching the gem show out of Near Atlanta Georgia . They had a big Aussie miner named Mark on the show . He had the most beautiful opals I have ever seen. I never saw one like the rainbow serpent in his collection though. He also sold diamonds from the Argile mine . He did very well.please continue doing your shows , the jewelery show isn’t what it used to be, since the original owner sold out. I enjoy listening to your educational videos . You and your wife are great people and funny, my state of Calif. needs some positive people with some humor thrown in during these trying times. I enjoy the eye candy to, in the girls as well as the great opals. Take care, and keep them coming. Gary Henderson.

Thanks so much for sharing these videos! I find them really interesting and relaxing, during a really stressful time in our lives. My Uncle and brother did opal mining in Cooper Pedy , many years ago, and I used to love looking through their pieces in the rough , imagining what could be inside . I have an attraction to opal , then found out just recently it was my birth stone ! Might be why I enjoy watching your videos so much! ☺️ Hello and best wishes from New Zealand 👍🏻

No apologies, Justin. You are such a conscientious worker that you deserve time away. We can adjust for one week...however two weeks would be a test...a month would be intolerable without you. By the way my name is Sue from Chicago. The black rose part has a metaphorical meaning with my writing and painting. Some day I will explain. Before you, I was a diehard Jadeite or Nephite lover. With my husband visiting in Hong Kong quite often, his prominent friends knew who to visit for the good stuff. When Jim eyed something he thought I would like, his friends just bought it to give to me. But you have certainly changed my opinion on opals. It is a very impressive stone. Maybe one day I will own one. Thanks for all your information.
