The steam forums are full of people overreacting like always. nProtect has been used for tons of games in the past and there have never been any reports on it doing anything malicious.

I played this game because a friend from Discord said it was fun. Didn't read any reviews, just started the game and had fun. Really fun. It's a shame so many people turn it down because it has the "f2p" tag. People want to keep the cookie and eat it at the same time..

@@captaintitan8885 Think of it as what can you get for 60-70$ a price of a normal game. So with 70$ you can get 3 general tabs and 2 other tabs. Not saying prices are awesome but Essence tab is probably a first buy if you plan on playing the game a while.

I cancelled the download immediately when I read reviews about the rootkit. My question is did it install while downloading? it was about 10% complete downloading when I canceled DL. My guess is im safe but am just looking for confirmation. I cant see nProtect or GameGuard installations in Add/removed programs list.

@@ChronoNaut1000 I aborted the download with less than 10% complete, but I am fairly certain you are safe. Steam doesn't normally install anything until the download is complete.

@@AttlasAllux I did the same thing but, after reading a bit more, Iwent looking for it and found the archive was already downloaded in my Windows folder. Check your machines, gentleman.

like any other anti cheat program it is a potential security risk, apparently there are many other eastern mmos that uses it such as: blade and soul, mu legends, lineage 1&2, maplestory, pubg etc

Vocal minorities of gamers always lose their shit over anti cheats and drm but in reality it doesn't really do anything negative to you.

nProtect GameGaurd is a kernal level rootkit with is designed around stopping programs from functioning in the first place by actively scanning memory, processes, active programs, and packets, and does so to prevent: cheats, and hacks but has been shown to prevent legitimate programs as well like VPNs and Anti-virus software (mainly because a rootkit is a virus/malware/spyware). this "anti-cheat" rootkit is one of the most difficult to get rid of as many users have reported needing to fully format their systems after uninstalling the game it is packaged with just to remove the kernal level access. the "anti-cheat" is supposed to only run while the game is active, but with kernal level access it can be active at all times without your otherwise consent but installing the game. other games that the "anti-cheat" rootkit has been packaged with has had the program running without the game being functional, so it is up to how much you trust the developers/publisher as to the security of your system with it installed

@@Zalixor it is a kernal level access program that can run and be installed without the users direct consent, logging the users actions, and blocking legitimate programs (you know like a rootkit malware does...) that uninstaller that was distributed (which was only even done after people from the data security world yelled at them, not out of the goodness of their own hearts.) only removes the folder the "anti-cheat" rootkit secretly installs itself into, where if the system is configured even slightly differently (whether that be the user's of OEM's doing) it will not remove the program completely. there are several other less intrusive anti-cheat programs, or even subroutines that could be packaged with the game that would only run while the game is functioning. but using a rootkit to do so means the developers don't know how to do data security for their game or build routines into the game itself to prevent "cheating" get your facts straight a rootkit being distributed to prevent "cheating" in a predominantly PvE game it only really exists to protect their "progression curve" and their cash shop, but where this is a Korean mobile game ported to PC it is just to protect their cash shop. this isn't bandwagon of "it has anti-cheat therefore bad" this is "it has a rootkit installed with it that can put a legitimate user at risk"

It needs to fit within the criteria of the activation rune. Ie; if it says it doesn't work with channgeling then you can't link it to a channeling

you need the trigger skill and the target skill pointing at the gem with the right colour at the line also there seems to be some exclusions on trigger skills that aren't explained on the gem for example the trigger attack on attack skill seems like it should work with whirlwind as the trigger skill but it doesn't

Yeah if this was just a priced game, and instead of having garbage P2W, they just had cosmetics, I would probably still be playing it. It's fun, but the P2W or pay for convenience is so bad that I can't have fun with it anymore.

Apparently very few people care, or maybe know, but once I found out I uninstalled and got rid of the rootkit. It's stupid, because an ARPG doesn't need this sort of software, and there's plenty of other software, if you really need an anticheat, that isn't a rootkit.

@Jk Its always been an issue for me, soon as AC gets that intrusive its not really to protect users from cheats, its usually to protect microtransactions or the in game economy anyway. which is a huge red flag before you consider that your trusting them with every single bit you process while its on there.

Diablo Immortal is cross progression on mobile and PC. Diablo 4 will never be available on mobile... it's too graphic intensive for mobile

They are now just a cash grab studio and just milk ppl with the diablo name. Just open torchlight and undecember pc client everything is different. Skills and mana and hp all placed in a pc arpg style. If u open DI its literally the mobile game on big screen. Everything is the same. Skills are also oriented in a mobile style. They literally didn’t change anything. Such mediocre and low effort from such a big studio. I don’t have high hopes for D4 but we shall see

I talk about the rootkit in my news video tomorrow, but in short: they are not the only game that does this - other popular games like PUBG and Valorant do it as well - and the main issue was that you could not un-install the rootkit, which they fixed in a patch this week. I still dislike and disprove of rootkit anticheats, however.

It seems like an easy line to draw to stay away from when it comes to the root kit issue OR heavy un-consumer friendly monetization. I get that you have to make a living and as I said, I mostly like the stuff I've seen from you over the years but the industry is getting shady AF and more and more companies keep jumping into this garbage, all that doesn't mean you need to support it by advertising and promoting it.
