Coyotes are so smart. Please be careful with both your dogs. The Coyotes will send one out to lure them in and the pack will attack the dogs. We have experienced them trying to do that here with our dog. We keep our chickens in a 6 ft fence area. They are pretty tricky.

Yes, I was just thinking this. We had a group of coyotes come up to our Akita. She was pretty big and they didn't care. Thankfully we were able to scare them away by driving a truck out and honking.

Yes a LSGD has some natural instincts but they need to be trained. Teaching him a boundary with a collar. Allowing him then to go mark his territory everyday so the predators know that there is LSGD on the property. If Lucca is out trying to hint the predators he should have gable every time with him and show him what you are hunting. I’m not trying to be negative but this is due to experience in training LSGD. Love your videos and love watching your homestead grow. You should watch Cog Hill Family homestead as they are very good.

I grew up in a big family, and we definitely all pitched in. Mom would have been too overwhelmed. We also had a very large fruit farm…so we had a ton of chores. We pruned trees, picked up brush, took care of animals, picked the fruit. We had orchards of (delicious, jonathons, banana ((banana was a hybrid apple my dad experimented with..it had a mild banana flavor)) apples, (sweet & tart} cherries, pears, plums, and a large patch of tomatoes. Plus mom’s garden. Canning,etc …. We had a large white farm house and a barn, several tractors, pick up trucks, etc. We had a Bassett hound named Joe. Several barn cats, a couple house cats. Our large fireplace heated down and upstairs with a blower and vents…so it always smelled like applewood in the house in the winter. Man, if I would have had KZfaq back then, that would have been something!

An idea for the dishwasher is to use the dishwasher for a drying rack so it keeps the counters cleaned off and there is always a place to stash the wet, cleaned dishes! The next meal dishes will be clean and waiting for use straight from the dishwasher. Just empty it at the end of the day!

I know you tie up Gable to keep him from wandering, but he can't do his job if he is. And if the coyotes are bad this year they WILL attack him being so young especially if he's tied. Also watch Nessa closely. Sounds to me like you may need a donkey or two. They are wonderful guard "dogs" and make great pets too.
@abarlow86

In Ohio, hunting season for coyotes is open year round. They are a nuisance and endanger livestock and farms. We know several farmers who allow hunters to come in their property for sport or are paid to hunt coyotes. Most farms have more than one guard dog. Also- you may consider getting a donkey! Believe it their loud bray will alert the guard dogs and often scare off the predators. They are very protective of their herd and barnyard.

I've never understood how killing could be classed as sport
@DeniseEllenburg-hv8lt
@DeniseEllenburg-hv8lt 3 ай бұрын
@@debbiesummers7979 It's called eating. God placed animals on earth to serve man. What is the difference in hunting wild game (very lean & healthy protein) to feed a family rather than buying animals commercially raised for slaughter and basically contaminated being pumped full of antibiotics and other chemicals in their feed that is transferred into the consumer's body? Every vegetable you purchase at the grocery store has been irradiated and coated for extended shelf life and also removing the natural nutrients contained in veggies grown without it. Also, uncontrolled populations of wild animals can easily get out of balance and cause disease and genetic problems within their herds. I would bet that one who was truly hungry would be much less concerned over whether the food available was harvested by a skilled ethical hunter or came from a grocery store. Commercially sold foods and the dyes, chemicals, etc they contain play a huge role in the high levels of diseases that ravage populations who consume them. Just because it's not something you find palatable, condemning those who choose to legally harvest wild game for their families is ridiculous. We are all different people with different ideas about what is best. Condemning others without a reasonable understanding of how & why its done is not helpful or bright, honestly. A day may soon come when you would be thankful to just have food instead of starving to death because the food supply is no longer dependable and shelves are empty.

Please watch the little ones and pups with those coyotes around. They will go after small pets, as well as lone LGD's. Especially since Gabe is so young. Also, if any of the boys are going out looking for them, they need to not be alone. You may SEE one coyote, but there are surely more around. Our population of coyotes have grown this year on the Eastern Shore of Maryland as well. The coyotes will keep coming back for your chickens, so keeping them contained is definitely a good idea. I cannot wait to see how you're new house comes along! Thanks for sharing. Take care all! ~ Stephanie

You can watch many homesteaders who have great Pyrenees, the dogs live with the livestock, they are not to be playing as a family pet. Of course he is a pup right now but eventually when he gets older that is where he should be, not only protecting the chickens but all the livestock. And I do agree with a comment that 2 are better than one. To have an area fenced where all livestock birds included will help the dog to understand it's purpose. The pond will always attract predators, that is a given! Education is so important when moving from the city to the country. We should not be learning at the cost of an animals life. Things happen, I have raised just about every kind of farm animal and yes you lose now and then, but it is rare because I have educated myself before I took on the that responsibility. Good luck!

Welcome home Judah 😊 You all are going to have to get “woods” smart like we need “street” smarts in the city. All wild animals will see small things , pets and children too, as prey, never let the littles out and about alone, I had a fear you’d lose the ducks and chickens😢you need to invest into the white electric fencing , like the homestead channels on KZfaq do to protect their animals, you can move it on the property too easily .Also have something in the yard the birds can flee under to from hawks. The Coyotes will bait dogs to chase one off into the trees where the pack is waiting to attack😮The puppy is prey too. Always Take time to learn safe farming practices and you will do great👍🏻🥰 I know your cup runner over , I don’t see how you get it all done…you are Super Mom ❤

Thank you for your previous recommendation for the electric pressure canner! I invested in one and it took about a month for me to get over my trepidation and use it. It has more than paid for itself in simplifying my life! How wonderful to know that even if I am not feeling well, a good home cooked meal is just a jar or two away. It is so easy to use, it's not a pain to set up my kitchen just for canning. I feel safe walking away from it and letting it do its thing. That means I use it more often and end up canning more than I would have with my stovetop version (that I can't use now because I upgraded my stove). Your son is right about induction stoves, btw. When my drop in stove finally died, I shopped for an induction until I found it on sale and it is WONDERFUL to not have to wait for an element to heat up. I agree with you on the helpfulness of an electric kettle. We discovered that when we stayed at a house on a trip. Came home and got one for my own kitchen and it gets daily use several times per day.

U could use the trailer as a chicken coop or other animal housing or a cool hangout for the kids to play. I would attach different roofing on so the snow won't cave in. Maybe there will be some leftover materials from the new build. The chickens r having a dust bath when u see them digging in the dirt. When it's time to Mow the grass, throw some of the clippings in their area or if your wood ash from the new home stove or fire pit is clean, throw ash in their area. The will love it. I only give our chickens clean ash, meaning only from my woodstove not the fore pit outside. I've burnt plastic in the outside pit before and have used pallet too. So don't want to give them nails or bottle caps etc. Anyway, happy for u guys. Can't wait to see the progress this summer. Before u know it, u and Solo will have your own 4 walls and a locking door 😅

So sorry about the chickens. Hopefully, the new fencing will help the problem. The new build area looks wonderful. I know you'll be so glad to get in it!

My husband and I recently bought a roomba. I said I would never. However I can not tell you what a game changer it has been. We just bought the vacuum, but I understand there are Roombas that vacuum and mop. I encourage you to consider for your new house for everyday cleaning. We pickup before bed and let her go then she will return to “base” on her own.

Yes, I have the shark vacuum mop combo and it is definitely a game changer, especially for the main part of the house.

Is there a better way to contain Gable without tying him up? I think it sounds cruel to tie a dog up.

Gabel don`t know what to do because he was not trained. I think guardian dogs are not allowed to come in your house. They should be housed with the livestock. Just what I heard🐈‍⬛🐺

Thats not what i read on the sites for training LSGD. They have to bond with you first while theyre young. They are untrained for a few years and not safe on their own at night for a while.

My mom would call everyone’s name when calling one or two of us, 5 girls. Take time to re- energize, could be carrying another blessings. Can hardly wait to see you going and enjoying Kenya. Hope Solo’s mom is able to get her Visa privileges back soon. Love seeing her visit.

One of the channels I watch, they called a person who traps wild coyotes, and moves them, I’m just wondering if your state does this? Maybe call a warden? There has to be something that can be done about them eating your livestock. May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you favour, and give you his peace. Numbers 6:24-26
