I love your use of color and the impressionist style of this painting. It’s so helpful to watch you handle the strokes as you infuse the gorgeous light!!! Thank you so much! I learned so much from these 3 videos!

I love pastels and have used them mostly for animal portraits or figures with very fine work for years. I have tried a few landscapes but the colours never looked strong enough. I have so enjoyed learning about under painting, which I never knew about. Thank you for that. Your paintings are beautiful!

You know, watching you is like "music", as your hand seems to melodically move over the painting-quite enjoyable, and I want to be able to stroke my marks like this-I have a feeling that it's much harder than it looks! Thanks for the lesson!

thanks alain. very helpful to know how you choose which colours to use where, you seem to know instinctively how different colours work together but for a beginner like me it helps to see how professional artists work it out, and seeing how to use the underpainting as a foundation and the sort of paper that will take an alcohol wash is a starting point. many thanks. Linda

Alain, thank you so much for the 3 videos on the this pastel piece. I learned so much from watching and listening to you. I found it inspiring and helpful with choosing paper: UART Premium Sanded Pastel Paper, blocking in, alcohol wash technique, impressionistic marking, brushes for blending and what questions to ask yourself as use paint. For me the question you focused on "what is this painting about?" and "what is the focus?" Thank you so much for sharing your talent. Linda

Excellent three tutorials! I will watch them each several times more. Love UART paper as well. My novice level of pastel painting really opened up when I started using sanded paper and I like that the UART doesn't buckle with underwashes.

Bravo that just opened new doors for me on art! I love to paint but I always wondered how to use the pastels. so I watched and watched and finally when we got to the 3 rd video and you said this is more of an impressionistic painting I was a little disappointed I think it was because I waiting for some blending and so on but then when you got to the end and framed it ..it turned out really beautiful ... at same time I really learned a lot and yes i agree with MDEbonzes it really makes me want to try it .thanks so much for your time and teaching this

Enjoyed watching these instructions to paint a rice field. when you began with reds/violets I couldn't see where you were coming from. I think that's why it held my interest so completely. I had to see where you were going with it. I have been trying not to blend with my brush, finger or Q-tip and need to learn other ways of marrying colors. Thx again. Incidentally, that looks as much like a rice field in Louisiana as it does in Cambodia. ')

Hi Alain! I'm still watching and rewatching your videos of different underpainting techniques on UART paper. I have a question about your beautiful finished painting in this video with the frame you showed... will you be adding glass to the frame? Do you use fixative to set the pastel or does the special paper take care of that? Thank you.
@uartpremiumsandedpastelpap99068 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa. We cannot speak for Alain and are not sure about the glass part, but you do have to put a glass frame on all pastel paintings to prevent damage to the painting. One of the biggest advantage of using UART paper is that you do not require any fixative whatsoever. The sanded surface allows the material to hold onto the grit and prevent any material loss. We hope this helps answering your questions.

WOW- that's some pastel collection you have!! (wipes drool off mouth) Lol! What pastels do you use? The one's I have has great pigment but are so waxy, I end up waisting more time rubbing the wax off and losing pigment then working on my painting! 😟😟😟

Alain Picard, are you using the soft pastells only? Or do you also mix with panpastels or pastell pencils as well?
