I’m 60 and have never felt accepted. Not with my family, not on any job, not in groups of friends. ACCEPTANCE is what it’s all about for me. I believed the messages I got (or what I thought the messages were) from my parents, from friends at school, teachers. I blew those way out of proportion, & carried them with me into EVERY relationship. Now I know those messages were BS. I am worthy. I ACCEPT ME. Took 60 yrs!

I am 56 (2022) and I am just beginning to love ‘me’. I too haven’t felt accepted. I couldn’t love myself because I had to ‘do’ someone else. I am not the ‘man on horseback’ type with ‘castle’, flash car, and six-figure annual salary but I am still good, but as far as the society/culture is concerned, I am not ‘right’. I don’t care about that. I cannot care about that because I am living _my_ truth, and that is where my confidence is. That’s right, to have confidence is to live *_my_* truth! I believe that has more ‘bravery’ than those who find it easier to follow the culture code. I could be wrong.

Welcome to new life my friend 😃 I'm 61 now, began my journey out of codependency, depression and anxiety ~10 years ago. Discovered Alex and David..... shit, about two years ago now and thought I still struggle, have moments where I allow my inner child to interject the red light emotions, but now I know how to navigate this and get back to my true authentic self. So much more I could say, but the main thing: Never give up!

Excellent and really helpful. It all seems so simple really. Maybe society should introduce compulsory parenting lessons! Or at least ensure all children understand their role in creating feelings ....... An alternative analogy to the car for "Stop it" could be food i.e. There's no point thinking after you've eating a huge pizza (or anything) that it wasn't good/helpful for you - the only way to stop anything getting into your stomach, is to stop putting it in your mouth and swallowing it!! Thanks again for your generosity in doing these life lesson videos.

I have been experiencing embarrassed emotions all of my life and it has prevented me from living my truthful and authentic life. I can vividly remember this being very, very strong in my childhood days and now as an adult, it is still there but in slightly less form.

I feel the same way however it’s come back in full force like it was when I was a child. I’m 23 and I’m searching to understand and find the beliefs that have lasted until my adulthood and change it! I need to stop it and condition myself to have better self talk when I feel embarrassed. When I was a child I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone about my negative emotions

@@johnnib5373 mine also came back in my mid-twenties bc of my parents’ divorce. For a few years, life was truly awful. In order to distract myself from all of my emotions, I started working 3 jobs and had no life. I did that for 2 years. It was just prolonging the journey to my healing. What triggered me to deal with it all was my breakup last year. Everything happened when it was supposed to happen. I wasn’t ready for this process back then bc my beliefs were all screwed up. Now however, I experience things where I already know the answer in my head and I know that that particular belief is false and I work through it in my own way. Never give up on yourself! 🙂

I understand and appreciate this guidance. Thank you. Is it possible that multiple traumas made it hard for my inner child to learn? It felt right inside me when my adult decided to be tested for executive functioning issues. My therapist who really helps me believes I’m being hard on myself & not accepting my weaknesses. I want to learn why it was hard for me learn as a child & why i have a horrendous work history when authority figures are absent and/or I cannot trust them. Does it sound like I am looking for excuses for my inner child’s learning difficulties or does it sound like I’m trying to take responsibility to get her the help she needed & I need now? Thanks for your help. Judy I thought I was parenting my inner child beautifully by believing her struggles were not her fault. I thought it would be good to know exactly what I’m dealing with.

That was very interesting as all of your videos! Great teaching! I have one question about the child belief that things are black or white, right or wrong and so on...you are saying that these are extremes and we should update that vision of the world when becoming adults, but what about ethics? What I mean is, for example, I know that my moral standards are quite high and so are my ethical beliefs. I believe there are things and actions that are very wrong, I believe we should first of all see if we are damaging something or someone before making a choice and I believe we should at least apologize and take responsibility, if we have done any wrong. And that’s because I believe that we are not perfect and it can happen to any of us, for as much as we try to be correct, to make mistakes and harm others, but shouldn’t we at least recognize the mistake and apologize or try to adjust it if we can? I understand that I am quite demanding with myself in trying to be as ethical as possible and therefore I become demanding with others, but isn’t it ‘right’ to expect from others to try to evolve in their better version too? Since you’re making such an effort and working hard to become a better human being? Thank you.

Hi Domininka, Thanks for your question. As you will appreciate, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on personal issues without full knowledge, history and background. Therefore I can only discuss in general terms. Remember, confidence is a description of the feeling! And you are the creator of your feelings. So if you are creating feelings that you want to label low confidence. So you need to investigate the thoughts and belief that generate those emotional feelings. David

Very interesting views and values. My question is, how do you deal with the complexities of emotional abuse in the family? Let's say your father has been emotionally abusive for years since childhood, you cut him off from your life but you are still in touch with your mother and siblings (who actually defend him) and you still need to deal with your father every time you visit them. That would cause and causes a lot of triggering due to all those memories, flashbacks and ptsd but also the hate and lack of respect from him still present. Relationships are not always black or white and it is very hard emotionally to completely cut them off from your life when there is so much enmeshment and toxicity in a family of 5. The golden thread is fantastic to gain depth but still, they keep hurting you when you see them a few times every year or talk to them over the phone. What is the life lesson here?
@WuWeiWisdom

Thank you very much for sharing your story, and obviously, your question is complicated. As you will appreciate, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on personal issues without full knowledge, history and background. Therefore I can only discuss in general terms. I'm pleased that the Golden Thread Process is helping you to regain your authentic balance and harmony. I would ask you to remember that you are the creator of your emotions, not the victim! Please examine this teaching deeply because when you understand it fully, they cannot create feelings and hurt you if you are the one creating those emotions. I love the work you both do for the world! I have been listening and saving videos for about a year and even considered private consult. I need to ask why David keeps using the "Stop it" statement which feels loaded with frustration. Your wife seems to balance your energy so it doesn't come across too harsh. I'm sure David see's so many people playing out the victom personality but I'm sure their true self does not want to continue the same cycle. I for one can't stand the bad "habits" of self talk and have tried for over 27 years to "Stop it"! Perhaps I am not someone who can change, I've tried just about everything to do so but sometimes the trauma from childhood just hooks you so deeply that you spend your entire life paralized with fear. I think mindfulness is the only way I could truly stop it, I'm still working every day to improve on that. I mean no disrespect David, I just need to express my perception.

Hi M, 'Stop it' is just ONE technique to stop the negative thoughts spiralling in any specific moment. Of course, if you only do this, then the red light feelings WILL return at some point later on because the real cause of the red light feelings has NOT been addressed. If you have watched our videos, you will understand that there are MANY techniques and processes that we teach to do the deeper work to bring about lasting change. This is the purpose fo the Golden Thread Process and Inner Child work. Check out our video catalogue :) x
