As a young man, Adam Bryce suffered from anorexia and since has endured a roller coaster road of a life now battling with severe depression. At thirty-eight, while he’s no longer starving himself to death, Adam is trying to understand what the disease anorexia is, the affect it has had on his life, and those around him. Now a father, Adam explores if his son could be pre-disposed to the illness. Adam talks to world-renowned expert Dr. Cynthia Bulik about the latest study on eating disorders and its genetic link.

It’s a shame people don’t realise how EDs aren’t just about being skinny. When you feel your life is out of control it’s so easy to catch yourself controlling other parts of your life such as eating and exercising and it’s a hard hole to get out of. Respect to anyone who has managed to recover and those who havnt, I’m sure it will come soon enough. Stay strong guys and girls !! ❤️

Such a shame there is still such a stigma attached to MEN having eating disorders! Thank you for this upload! Now, perhaps, more men will share their stories and inspire others to do the same. 👍👍👍

A lot of people with ocd, depression, eating disorder's have unique thought patterns which have similarities (perfectionism, creativity, low self esteem, control). Many of these people can achieve a lot in a short period of time but are also likely to quit, withdraw. Interesting...

I have all of the below and I can attest that those people are high achievers and while sky seems to be the limit, they are in fact their own limitations...

There's a deep hurt in his eyes. And having children under those circumstances. God poor babies. I have mental issues as well also and always wonder what negative outcome will it have on my children. Makes me sad.

"Whatever it was that made you discover that restricting made you feel better, that's the hook." Powerfully on-point and helps one empathize with all people with eating disorders. This is a statement that makes me really introspective....I have been having trouble around food and appetite for years, and those years all held depression and anxiety beyond compare. Eating disorders aren't just something teen girls have, I'm 58.

Can we stop shaming men for having eating disorders ,depression and being a rape victim cause people do that Also if you have any problems in your life just remember suicide is never an option that will bring happiness so just remember someone will love you💕

Mental and emotional disorders tend to morph from one to the next unless there is support and intervention. Adam really needs a community to support him and tools to delve into why? Therapy, OA, a Men’s group, somewhere he can be totally honest while being non judgmentally supported. Dr. Cynthia is amazing. Understanding and acknowledgement goes miles towards healing.

I found this documentary really interesting and informative. I appreciate seeing people who do not fit the stereotypical mold of anorexia.

Anyone can get an ED. I am glad he's talking about it, and I am glad he addressed stereotypes.

This man is my ED doppelgänger. Every explanation he gives for what goes through his mind, his triggers, his massively larger worry for his child than for himself... boom. Twins. 💁🏽‍♀️ Even that we no longer look the stereotypical part. It's still very much there and distraction distraction distraction. He's got OCD and depression, anxiety -same. All of my diagnoses fall perfectly under ASD and the first question that ran through my mind was, "Is he autistic and doesn't know it?". Spidey senses are ablaze.

I had anorexia in my early teens which I beat after almost a year. Then after two years I started suffering from depression and anxiety. Now at the age of 39 I'm suffering from what I believe to be ocd. I guess the anorexia was the start of my problem?

How come AN ED only refers to skinny ppl or are ppl saying fat people are just dam greedy pigs? Surely obesity is an ED … My mate is 18stone, Im 7 stone at 5’7” .. how is it ok for them to say to me how skinny I am bla bla but nobody’s allowed to call my mate fat and tell her what damage she too is doing to herself ?!??????

Excellent point! Both sides are using food to abuse themselves (or you might say: exhibit their suffering… both ideas are true).

I know you wrote this a long time ago, so hopefully you have learned more since then. Please know that this is a brain illness, people aren't choosing this because they have the luxury of time, or privilege. It isn't like that at all. People die from this every day. Try to think of it like any other physical illness.
