What makes Tyler the Creator’s 2017 album Flower Boy so important? Tyler the Creator is a rapper originating from California with a long and infamous career. He earned his fame as leading member of rap collective Odd Future, the same group that spawned stars such as Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, Syd and Tyler himself. For a long time, with the release of his albums Bastard, Goblin, Wolf and Cherry Bomb, Tyler was an incredibly polarizing figure. With the release of Flower Boy in 2017 Tyler showed a softer side of himself with refreshing, original beats and heartfelt lyricism. Flower Boy took Tyler from being a niche figure with an ugly reputation to one of the most respected rappers in the game, influencing everyone from Kanye West to Brockhampton. In this video I discuss Tyler’s evolution from immature young man to respected musician. A joint project between Tyler, the Creator and rapper A$AP Rocky is hotly anticipated and expected to drop any day. Camp Flog Gnaw is Tyler’s upcoming music festival that will feature names such as Kids See Ghosts, Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s duo, Rex Orange County, Brockhampton, Post Malone, SZA, Jaden Smith, Earl Sweatshirt, Lauryn Hill and many more music stars.

To be fair to Tyler, while it is the middle of his career (well we don't know he could be making albums into his 40s and then it wouldn't be middle) he dropped flower boy at the age of 26, same as when Kanye dropped college drop out and younger than Eminem with sslp. Tyler blew up really young and we are starting to see him really mature before our eyes. Imo we are seeing him really hitting his creative stride

Allan Sh he shouldve won a grammy for bastard, goblin and wolf, now everyone loves him and shit, thats dumb, mostly because what hes doing here is trying to get that grammy and he said it in bastard but no one bothers on listening to the real tyler, this flower boy gay tyler is just because he had to change to get famous, why everyone hates cherry bomb? because even tho he had the new vibe he still had the old, real style and no one really liked it but see other people from the gang, take a look at earl, hodgy, left brain, why arent they as famous as tyler? because they havent changed their style a lot, take a look at old songs from him and not just flower boy

Antonio Jaimez I prefer old Tyler but that doesn’t mean new Tyler sucks. It’s just him maturing as an artist and everyone does it. Do you really think it would make sense if Tyler kept rapping about raping women? That was back when he was a teenager he’s 27 now.

@jasonfernandes7965

Never said it wasn't, i just think (in my opinion) Flower boy deserved the award. In terms of production and originality, flower boy was better. That's why i said, no disrespect to Kendrick or DAMN but i feel like he just won the award because he's Kendrick Lamar. Same thing with Bruno Mars, the guy was nominated/won so many it's just ridiculous and disrespectful for the other artists who put in just as much if not harder work than him. Does that mean his project was bad ? Of course not, but they choose a winner based on how mainstream they are, which is unfair. That's why i'm calling it a popularity contest

Looking back to this video now when IGOR is released really shows that Tyler is almost fully matured now. With IGOR making a whole new character, and going through the journey of falling in love and eventually realizing that this might not be for him, really shows that he isn't just an angsty teen, but an extremely creative and mature adult, that isn't scared to show his emotions and feelings anymore, and focuses on making actually good music with good meaning. Now, don't get me wrong, Tyler has had a talent his entire life, but the actual meaning of his music when he started producing it scared off many people.

Great video, my only problem is you kinda skipped over wolf and cherry bomb, I wish you talked more about those albums.

I think Flower Boy is his best albums as it seems to be the one he was the most into himself. It seemed to me that Flower Boy is what he wanted Cherry Bomb, and that this is the successor to that album and that he'd finally perfected what he was working towards

As a Tyler the Creator fan, (possibly stan) I obviously approve of this video. I also kinda hope Tyler retweets because that’s the kind of thing he does. Pretty smooth and well edited, this one. It really explain Tyler’s story outline in a similar way to Kids See Ghosts’ story. I would’ve liked you to go a bit more in depth to his other 2 projects, Cherry Bomb in particular because it’s an important stepping stone in his career and style and also it has a literal documentary’s worth of information. But yeah uh good video.

MapleMilk that be cool if he does retweet it but I doubt it, because the title is a bit much. Flower Boy was amazing but it’s only been an year and I don’t think Tyler sees it as a classic yet.
