This is another beautiful video that shows clearly that perspective ( the relative size of things in a photo) has to do only with Distance ( camera to subject and distance object) and not wide, normal or telephoto lens used.

Like, like, like and again like! Honestly, I cannot stress this enough at how easy and comprehensive this video was. Right to the point without unnecessary chat and with practical examples. It took my photography teacher to explain this, without any examples, literally an hour yesterday. An hour of meaningless words. My frustration led me here and now, thanks to this channel, I was able to understand everything at last. Subscribing immediately. Have a nice day. :-)

First of all: Thank’s for this great educational video and your effort and explanations. I am willing to learn more about perspective and focal length/angle of view. I have learned so far that when it comes to depth perception you have to differntiate two kinds: Egocentric distance perception and exocentric distance perception. Egocentric distance is the distance between an observer/viewer and an object or person. Exocentric distance is the distance between two objects or objects (independant of a viewer). Your video shows clearly that the egocentric distance perception changes with focal length (without changing camera position). As you jump from 14 mm to 28 mm and then to 50 mm the viewer gets the impression that you and also Alex in the backhroungd get closer tot he viewer (change in egocentric distance perception). But I have problems with your statement at 5:37, that also the perceived exocentric distance (distance between you and Alex) changes with focal length. I have read in scientific articles that the perception of exocentric distances in two dimensional pictures depends on the size ratio of the targets/objects. And this size ratio only changes with the camera position, not with focal length. So, in your video the size ratio between you and Alex stays in all cases the same. Ok, Alex gets bigger with increasing focal length, but you two. As said: The ratio itself is constant. So I am not sure if your statement that the perceived exocentric distance is also reduced. What do you think about it? Thank's in advance for your valued time and input.

It would be nice seeing you talking about lenses decisions with all that in mind. Me for example prefer using 50mm for a close up instead of a 100 or 200mm for instance. That make me bring the camera closer, but i prefer the 50mm field of view insteae of the 200mm. I can still have the same subject size in frame, but capture more from the enviroment around to gather better context. Anyway, this kinf of decisions are nice to elaborate on. Same as the look you can get with a 35mm 1.4 on full frame body while filming someone close to the lenses. Lovely images!
