Personally, I would just use the official apps of both of the trains Italo and Trenitalia. Plus by using them that often times will email you discount codes that you can use in addition. Third-party apps typically cost you more.

Great info and video. Very informative. Unfortunately, I did not see any low price for the trains to Florence even 2 months before our trip. 😢 On Italo app, the cheapest price in July was 30 euros each way, per person and on the most economic option. So over 100 euros to go on a day trip. Maybe the prices have change recently? Anyhow, thank you for such an informative video.
@RozierRoma
@RozierRoma Ай бұрын
Regular fair is 50 euros next day. On the app I see fairs 2 months out as low as 14 euros each way. Some days of week are more expensive to travel on so check different days.Also when you register on the app you get emailed promo codes that can be applied to bring the cost down further. Best of luck!

I also just found your channel, and I didn't know about the Italo app and booking in advance to get cheaper tickets! Thank you! I have been to Italy 6 times and I am planning to take a family of 4 with me to Italy next summer. I was planning on going to Sorrento and Capri from Rome. I was considering using the Italo high speed trains to make it to Naples within an hour or so. Then use the Naples metro to the Port of Naples and take a ferry to Sorrento and Capri. Do you think it's worth a shot?
@RozierRoma
@RozierRoma 16 күн бұрын
Yes, I have done that exact same thing not too long ago. Taking the ferry over to Sorrento from Naples was awesome and a much more enjoyable than the slow the slow Vesuviana train. Remember when you get to Sorrento, you’re down on the ocean and the city is up above. It’s much easier to take the elevator that is not too far from where the boats drop you off just ask. I think it cost one euro anyways well worth it. Have a great trip.

Great advice, thank you! Do you recommend the trainline app?
@RozierRoma
@RozierRoma 2 ай бұрын
There are 2 trains options in Italy so there are 2 apps. Italo is only high speed trains to all of the main cities in Italy. The app is easy to use. Trenitalia has a much larger network of trains both high speed and regular. I use Trenitali for all of the routs that Italo does not cover. You could just download Trenitalia and have 100 percent coverage but I find Italy app to be better and in most cases less expensive. Hope that helps.

@RozierRoma 2 ай бұрын
For best rates on high speed rail use the Italo app. If you book early you will save the most. About a month early for best savings in peak season. The other app I use is Trenitalia for all regular speed trains.They also have high speed but typically cost more than Italo. Trainline is a third party app, but I have never used it.

Hi Scott, thank you so much for these videos! I really appreciate you sharing your experiences and tips! I am going on a trip to Italy in October. We come back to the US on the 24th of October. On the 23rd we will be in Naples but our flight leaves from Milan at 5am on the 24th. I was looking at tickets for the 23rd at around 10pm and I don’t see anything available yet, definitely because it’s too early. Do you have any tips on when I should book those tickets to get the best deal and/or if I should do Naples to Rome and then Rome to Milan? Thank you again!
@RozierRoma
@RozierRoma 2 ай бұрын
You are right, they have train schedules out about 4 months. Not sure what you are looking for? A train that leaves Naples around 10pm or arrives in Milan around 10pm? I do not think you will find one leaving at 10pm so to arrive close to 10pm you will need to leave Naples between 5to6pm. With high speed rail leaving from Naples to Milan is very doable and takes just under 5 hours. If it were me I might look into starting trip in Naples and ending in Milan but both options work well. Why are you flying out of Milan? If I were to make a change I would fly out of Naples or Rome. Clarify and I will try to give my best advise.

You can still take high-speed trains with your pass, but I think you have to pay an upgrade fee of about five euros. If you’re traveling across the country, you will definitely want to get on the high-speed as it will save you a lot of time.

If you’re familiar with the station you just need maybe 10 minutes but if you’re unfamiliar allow yourself some extra time. 30 minutes would be enough to figure things out one thing you don’t wanna do is miss the train so it’s better to be a little bit early than late.

Outside of theft crime is very low in Italy so it is safe even late at night to be out alone in my opinion. Rome is a big city and lots to do and see but it can be a bit overwhelming. Florence is a much more relaxed city and very easy to enjoy. No need for taxis or busses everything is close by foot. What is your reason for going to Milan? I have been there a few time it was not my favorite and it is also a big city. I think one big city (Rome) is enough on your first trip. Just my thoughts. Thanks for mentioning the sward fight I was wondering if anyone would. It is not helpful advise , just silly entertainment. Any questions?

Hi, thanks for this helpful video. I have a question on cancellation and refund of tickets booked on the Trenitalia site. If we are unable to travel, how can we cancel the ticket. I can't find an option on their site even after i am logged in. Also, is there any percentage that gets refunded even for a non-refundable ticket that is cancelled up to 2 weeks in advance? Or even an option to change the date for travelling or getting vouchers for that amount? Look forward to a response on this please. Thanks!

On the app when you purchase a ticket you will get different price option and click on the info sign to understand ticket restrictions/refunds, Only base tickets oor higher offer a refund with deduction option. How much of a deduction I do not know? Others let you reschedule and some of the cheeper tickets are use as is or lose. Once you have a train ticket purchased you can click on it to manage options such as cancel reschedule. I hope that helps

Trains do not run 24 hours a day, last train to Rome from Venice is around 6pm. Some tines of year there is a sleeper train that leaves Venice at midnight and arrives in Rome at near 8am the next morning.. In italy they use a 24 hour clock 1 pm would be 13:00 2pm 14:00 and so forth. High speed rail takes 4 hours each way. You will only have 5 to 6 hours in Venice. Have you been to Florence? Much bettter option for a day trip. Venice is nice but it can be super, super crowded kinda like an amusement park than an italian city.

There’s a better way it’s called a taxi. Buses and metro do not take me to the front door of my hotel or Airbnb I’ve been in Rome with the metro and buses are also on strike or construction so taxis also come in handy then. I get what you’re saying Rome does have an incredible public transportation system but it does not work 100% of the time for every situation.

Great job to start but honestly you can do better; strive for quality content. Get out there and take more video!rather than verbally explaining how to use validation machines. Show us! It’s youtube! show distinction between validating PAPER ticket vs a “ticket” purchased via the app. Big difference and u blur them. Take us inside Termini and show the huge board and how to read for arrivals, departures , tracks, cancellations and delays. Show us the ticket machines and counters for paper tik purchase. What about strikes? Show us how to navigate those. Walk us down to the B platforms rather than Google view. And most importantly:show us how to find your correct carriage/car number and how to position yourself on the platform. Also show us inside the commercial area of the station-how about an idea of how that appears…its a small busy city in there! What if you miss ur train? So, I think you have big opportunity here to provide real quality on 2nd edition-give it a shot!
