I am indifferent. Magic is dying in OUR world just the same as it was in theirs. Tolkien was just the intermediary between our world and theirs. Blending Saxon and Norse lore in such a way that it not corrupted, but beautiful, like Muggles and Wizards breeding. HOW do you expect to keep the line going with ONLY Blue and True, ya can't that's the answer. The Daleks will show you, their worst of inbreeding. That only lead to their downfall. The preservation of their own was their undoing, outright. Magic should be absolutely preserved until it cannot be. If we could just figure out a way to combine Technology and Magic in such a way we WILL have The Eternity Cube, or even the LEPRecons. (If you get it, you get it.)

I did like some of what they did with the Hobbit film version of Thranduil, especially when he reveals he has faced 'the great fire drakes' and has been horrifically burned. I know that's not exactly supported in lore, but it was a nice addition of depth to his character.

I always imagined Sauron as Annatar looking like Thranduil in the hobbit films tbh. I loved him in the films, but I cannot stop think about how awesome he could have been as Annatar :D Sad theres not so much written about this character, his name alone is so damn cool and mighty.

What is it with everyone? He didn't say Thranduil IS the oldest being in Middle-earth. He said he has the "potential", meaning, he's possibly among the oldest (which is true). Also, he's talking about elves since those are the other examples he uses. Use context clues. Great video, by the way.
@Azulakayes
@Azulakayes Жыл бұрын
Agreed. With Celeborn and Cindar sailing off with the last ship into Valinor, he would be the oldest elf since we can assume he stayed back in his woodland realm. I added 'elf' in my edit too.

I think that the Hobbit movie depicted Thranduil as (almost) a villain and made him arrogant and greedy, thats not ho he was in the beginning when his wife Legolas mother still lived, i think they should had shown how good he was before and un korrupted by sorrow for the loss of his wife, they should had done a flashback when you see him happy and playing with Legolas when he was a child and hugging his wife, that would make you have more sympathy for him and Legolas later in the movie!!🤔😊

@jonathonfrazier6622
@jonathonfrazier6622 Жыл бұрын
@@firebreathingmoonbeam3961 Well Cirdan is the oldest elf still in Middle earth. He has no father, he was one of the very first elves to wake up fully fashioned. Tom Bombadil is older than everything, including the very trees. The ents, like Tom Bombadil are older than any of the peoples of Middle earth and their lives are so slow that even the younger ents like Quickbeam are likely unimaginably old. While we do not know Theanduil's age except that he is indeed quite old, it is safe to say he was born sometime between the Years of the Trees and some time in the First Age. If he were one of the first generational elves such as Cirdan or Thingol this would certainly have been mentioned as it would be very significant and at best make him equal with Cirdan but still far younger than Tom or the ents.

Sauron did in fact retrieve all of the the rings of men and dwarves. Only the elven rings were left, and that is because they were hidden from Sauron by the elves magic.

Because of the the hobbit sadly Thranduil is my least favorite character he is cold in the movies and in the book he is a little harsh but it's understandable he is protecting his people from the dwarfs
@martyadams3172
@martyadams3172 Жыл бұрын
Until nearly the end, he was cold. Then he showed his dismay at how his soldiers had died, and was very concerned about where his son might have been. That scene where he is walking through the Tower, he was searching for Legolas. As well as his tacit appology to Tauriel, at his doubting her love for Kili. I tend to think of him as a flawed charactor, not evil, but more likely suffering some form of PTSD after seeing his father killed and enduring 4 years of war, during the last Alliance of Elves and men, and yes, the loss of 2/3 of the Woodland army. And yes, he stepped up during the War of the Rings, and was the major reason the forest and it's people survived.

In the book it said he was very fond of "white jewels and silver". No mention of mithril. That is even hinted at in the movie, when Thorin is starting to go mad, and lifts the necklace made of diamonds and silver, ( the Jewels of Lathlacin) and say's "I know an Elf Lord who'd give a fortune for this".
