Also would like to recommend Tymna + Malcolm to new players that want to try turbo. It's a really good that that will learn players to mulligan and mulligan aggressively, because it will reward you. If you could get a hand that is ad nauseam turn 2 or a turn 1 rhystic/remora then that's great. Otherwise you could aim for a turn 1 Malcolm in play. Tymna is also drawing you back into the game if you went low when you mulled. Having both card draw and ramp in the command zone is really strong and makes it easy to learn how to turbo 🙂

I'm a control player in all formats looking to learn turbo here because I struggle against it so much, and it's learning a new way to play magic. I found your point on patience so interesting because I experience the opposite problem. I have too much patience and I end up missing my window of opportunity several times in a game and then I'll try to go off at a bad time. It's an interesting problem lol

It's more broadly about understanding the window of opportunity, which yes means sometimes waiting too long or sometimes not being patient enough. cEDH is an interesting beast because basically every deck is a combo deck with control tools in it, and it's so rare you get to start a turn knowing shields are down and you're safe to go off. It is very tricky, and forcing your opponents to stop something or baiting interaction to see how safe things are is definitely a key part of the game that's a bit unique to it.

@@LemorasCards It's definitely why I've been struggling even playing control which is supposed to be my comfort zone. I am totally not used to everything being a combo deck and me having to win in the same manner too. It's a new skill to learn and honestly it's so exciting that it's making me even want to try out combo decks in modern. Underworld Breach is like a drug LOL

@@LemorasCards Shorikai and Elsha have been my two main decks lately. Just looking for more strategies that play Hallowed Fountain and Tundra LOL

@@Horchata4lyfe I've enjoyed Niv, Blue Farm, and Dawnwaker as my control-ish options so far. I think listening to boshnroll talk about how he approaches Tymna Kraum helped me with that a lot.

That’s the power of my rograhk thrasios. It’s a mixture of all the relevant styles. It has a turbo theme, it has a stax theme, it has a control theme, that all compliment each other. It can be an early game, midrange, and late game forcer. All 3.

@@Eric_theMAD_King right prosperous innkeeper + nyxbloom ancient + cloud stone curio + rograhk isn’t something I’ve ever seen anyone else do. Something everyone seems to forget is that as long as you can gen infinite mana and you have Thrasios anywhere in any zone, you probably win. That’s what really breaks thrasios, any infinite mana gen = GG. Lots of ways to make infinity mana these days.

Thank you. Have had thoracle naus Kess deck and about to enter a proxy friendly cedh tourney this weekend (which gives me access to intuition, LED, dual lands, moxen), and this was really ripe! Would welcome any advice

New to your videos and I'm going to try and get into cedh. I'm thinking of going gitrog because it's easy on the wallet compared to most. Is that considered more of a fringe turbo?

Hope you're enjoying them! Right now, for a new person, I think Gitrog monster is a very tough recommendation, as it's both pretty fringe at the moment and one of the more complicated decks in the format. I'd definitely say to proxy up a deck and not worry about price while getting into the game. Our last episode we go over picking a deck as a new person so I'd suggest that, we go over Tevesh/Kraum as a great turbo option to start with.

After playing magic for years and now adopting one piece. I can’t even play magic anymore everyone plays the same infinite combo pieces. And it’s like what’s the point of playing a game someone will win in a few turns with the same combo you have in your hand hahaha

I guess if you don't enjoy the journey to a win then there's no point. Interaction and gameplay is quite unique in every game regardless of having the same pieces. In chess, all it takes is 6-9 moves before the game enters a state that its totally unique. And they literally have all the same pieces.

How'd you make it past a tutorial without getting upset it's the "same"? Lol idk man you do you, i was just trying to explain how someone could enjoy it and tried to offer a different perspective.

It seems like every deck is trying to be one of these: Turbo : RogSi Stax : Winota Snowball Pivot : Najeela NBC Midrange : Tymna/Kraum Farm Every other deck that plays one of these over arching gamestyles is simply trying to be better at it than one of these 4 decks.

My rograhk thrasios deck is actually all of those things jammed into one deck. It’s more like all 4 of those decks are trying to do what i do but divided.

Ad naus and thassa is not the only win con. Everyone only talks about that combo. Its not that good. Stax and removal will win more games imo

Hard disagree on the stax portion. You can’t deploy enough pieces to stop everyone and the deck that can work around the stax wins. It is very difficult to win with stax. I agree that removal is very important however.

This is probably one of the least informed opinions I’ve seen in a hot minute. Stax is a meme these days, how the hell do you convert your stax into a win within 75 minutes? And removal? Sure it’s important, but what exactly are you removing against Blue Farm, the best deck in the format? Swords in response to snap targeting dockside I guess?
