At 04:55 onwards, what she is saying "go back to your usual font, go back to your lame font". She is specifically referring to the fact that in the Japanese version, Sans' font changes to deliver that line (cf. source video at 03:17:40)

@@Copperhell144 what do you mean? It changes in this very video... you can see the different font... because he used the text from the actual game itself...

@@alexsteiner4223 I know that some translators edit in the original English text, but for this particular video this is not the case - in this one the translator is actually translating the text of the Japanese version of the game back into English. You can tell by the slight difference in text font and the lines Sans says, or the fact that in the original Sans doesn't use capital letters in the beginning of his sentences (except for the "line") but maybe even more obviously from the fact that the "jokes" between Sans and Toriel are vastly different, and even the infamous line itself is different (in the original English version, Sans says "You'd be dead where you stand", but you have "You'd have died a long time ago" in this video). Words cannot describe how happy I am that the jokes were localized with a Japanese audience in mind. If there's one thing that notoriously does not translate well, it's jokes. There's no way to do a 1:1 translation with jokes without losing something. And it sounds like whoever localized this game knew their Japanese humor.

こういう事に使うべきじゃないと思うけど、アンジュの声も聞けて、かつ英語の勉強もできて助かってる・・・投稿主さんありがとう・・・・ Master of ... contribution thank you that and I listen to the voice of Ange though I think that you should not spend it for such a thing and there is the English study, and of I is saved, ... （that there may be the place where words are funny as I translated it by force using a translation site, but is happy if my thought reaches it）

@@Guitarpunkmasta That's how important the promise was to him. Asgore only needed one more human to destroy the barrier and free all the monsters. Also, in the english line, he said" You'd be dead where you stood". Meaning that he'd be the one to kill us.

I really love Undertale, but I don't read or speak Japanese, so this is the first time I've actually seen the Japanese dialogue (albeit translated back to English). Is the dialogue altered all the way through? It seems the same general message is carried over, but I'm curious. Would the "Dishes who" joke being changed to the "Tsukkomi and Boke" joke be a cultural thing as it's something known more in Japan? Is the "You'd be dead where you stand" threat changed to "You'd have died a long time ago" threat a language thing as it doesn't seem as confrontational?

From what I know, they altered a lot of lines to follow the overall message while adjusting the dialogue to better suit Japanese tastes. The dishes joke wouldn’t translate very well, which is why it makes sense that it was changed. As for the change of the other line, it’s just a change in grammar to make it less likely for the reader to misunderstand. If they went with a more literal translation (then translate it back), I’d understand it as “You’re dead.”

As a person who speaks three languages, I can't help but get annoyed by this comment. Please, neither of those things will work outside English. Japanese isn't one of the three languages I know, but I highly doubt it'll work there either. Different languages aren't just English with different words, they all have their own entirely different logic and rules. Undertale is an example of a media that's a true pain to translate. I may not know Japanese, but with my weeb knowledge, I can at least confirm that the translators did one hell of a job. I would say it's easily one of the best translations out there. Props to whomever did it, because I definitely couldn't do something like this.

@@KineticManiac Yes exactly, I speak only two languages, English being the one I was raised with, but Spanish being my family's language, and this made me curious to learn more. I believe my curiosity stems from Undertale originally being in English, so I'm interested in how going from that to another language can change the dialogue, like I imagine it would for any other language. I am interested in learning Japanese, but I don't wanna bastardise it by being a weeb, I wanna learn Japanese more as person.

I never played undertale and this scene send shivers down my spine. 'is he gonna kill that kid?' I thought. But it's okay in the end. I got a question : did toriel mama still alive?

depends, in neutral route you can spare bosses and befriend them but it's still the neutral route because you killed some monsters but when I did my neutral route I didn't know at the time against Toriel that I could spare her so she was killed and I didn't even want to kill her

@@samikrungoken yep I looked at the source and the final boss or it is Photoshop Flowey which is the final boss of the neutral route, the final boss differs depending of the route Asriel in pacifist, Photoshop Flowey in neutral and Sans in genocide but it seems she won't do genocide as she already played Deltarune and people tend to play this game after finishing Undertale

@@AlexRonai In the first run, it's always the neutral route whether or not you spare or kill the monsters. The pacifist route starts when flowey tells you to go to the true lab

It's me ir the traduction in japanese is different from English, in English sans say " You be dead where you stand"...... It's ten time's more scary Almost tell You explicit, sans would kill you at that exact moment
